    Re: Gamestop no likey OnLive

ITT It's ok to open software if we say it is, but that really only applies to us and not you and MY GOD GUYS why are you getting so mad, it's not like you were presented with all of this information up front and thus given the option to buy an unopened copy that is virtually worthless in the very store you are buying it from elsewhere so you should really just shut up and buy your stupid video game at Gamestop, because they know best.

Also, some sort of bakery analogy, because that's what's cool.

      Re: Gamestop no likey OnLive

Its common knowledge Gamestop does open games for display purposes already and those games don't usually get played. Gamestop does offer employees the opportunity to try them out - its something I don't agree with and don't support or use myself and I think they shouldn't allow that, but its their decision.

If you know this and you go in knowing this and still buy their games anyway, guess what?

Its also your fucking fault. You knew and you went in anyway. Every PC box on the shelves of a gamestop is gutted for display purposes and then ignored by any sane gamer that doesn't buy PC games at Gamestop.

You know what a royal pain in the ass it is that I have to mention Impluse before Steam if we don't have a PC game? Well, its not really, because its for the one PC gamer that comes in all week and that's provided they've graced my with enough bours to fill half a day all week. This is why I have a full time job, cuz I'm just in Gamestop for the discounts at this point. I'll probably dump it after the holidays.

I'm really not invested in defending Gamestop so much as explaining what is really just reality here.

So the one PC weird PC gamer on the planet went out and grabbed up the retail release of DX:HR and went to whine to Joystiq - which is apparently what passes for "investigative journalism" in the gaming press - and now people are all mad again and raging on the comment sections and forums instead of writing Gamestop or organizing a proper boycott.

But then, that would require gamers to have spine and we can't rightly expect that when people like Malacite rage for weeks on end about Call of Duty and Bobby Kotick and they buy the games anyway.

Anyway, I'll humor you: If you are a PC gamer and somehow don't happen to know what Steam is and go to buy your copy of DX at Gamestop, should you be mad they opened it and took out that coupon to that new-fangled Onlive thing?

I guess, but I'd be more disappointed you just didn't use digital distribution for your PC games.

Well pardon us for expecting a shred of decency out of them. Yes bbq, we all knew they're scum, but we didn't expect them to be the lowest of the low. (Or maybe we did, I think they just lowered the bar.)

This is one fucking hell of a slippery slope. Once they start pulling shit out of the box there's no telling how much they'll remove while still trying to you the game at "new" price. You seem to be leaning on the fact that this is a PC game. Well what if it weren't?

At least it seems GameStop finally decided to be (slightly) less retarded and recalled all DXHR copies to send back to SE.

Though BBQ is right, PC gamers should stay clear from stores like GameStop.

              Re: Gamestop no likey OnLive

if anything I honestly see it as a "shady move" by SE putting in a competitors add inside all their boxes, and the boxes not being marked about it in any way.

and really, all the pointless hate on Game Stop, I never really understood it, and it is not because I work there, (love my discounts and free swag) I even agree that there are somethings I don't see eye to eye with (letting employees check out new games and still sell them "new" later) I just check out useded games myself.

but over all Game Stop is not bad, and I see that alot of people just hate to be hating.

Well over half of the "complaints" people have can be explained with simple logic, or the store in question is a rare case from the norm.

Retail stores need to stop opening products. That's my job as a consumer.

                The end.

I suppose Gamestop missed the memo where they don't get to change what a publisher puts in a sealed box just because they are selling it.

I wonder if I opened a new product in front of them and asked for a full refund if they'd give it to me? No, they won't, because they already told me if I wanted a full refund for a game that the game has to come back unopened.

So how can they honestly charge full price for opening a product and tampering with it? Who's to say the CD hasn't been scratched or scuffed while they move the disc from the case to those 'protective' paper sleeves?

you dont have to buy it, it is that simple, it is the same damn argument all over again.

we have many customers all the time that come to get a game, we only have one left (the gut) and they say no thanks and get it some where else, or wait till we get more.

Game Stop was in their right to remove the voucher, and SE should have never put it in there to begin with, go complain to SE if you want to complain to someone.

Publishers can put whatever they want in their boxes. Do you expect them to ask GameStop, Target, BestBuy, and every other retailer that sells their wares if it's all right to put in anything other than an instruction manual in the box?

It's nothing to do with whether or not I'm buying it. It's the fact that they can charge you full price for something opened, but you can't get a full refund for something opened. I don't have to buy the product to see how shitty that is. I mean, I went to Microcenter, bought a keyboard and mouse, opened both, tested both, decided "you know what? Not really for me." I went back, returned the opened items and got my FULL refund. Gamestop can't do the same?

Gamestop isn't in their right to remove anything. Oh man, a voucher to stream one game. SUCH A COMPETITION BOOST.

It's perfectly within SE's right to put whatever promotion they want in the products they create and it's perfectly within GameStop's right to do whatever they want with the merchandise they purchase to sell. It's perfectly within my right to call you a dickface. Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you can do it and pretend you're not a jackass, and there is a whole lot of jackass to go around in this scenario.
