  • Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM

    I'm spending a surprising amount of time just running around and reading books.

    Still can't make myself use fast travel unless it's relatively short distances. And the one time I decided to use a carriage I reloaded because it felt like a waste. <_<;

    Anyone read Kolb and the Dragon yet? I read it last night, it was fun in a retro kind of way. XD

        Mezlo, the only things I know that level at the same time are Bound weapons and thier related skill. More or less you conjure up and ethereal version of a sword and it's available to you for two minutes. The use of the weapon will level its related skill and summoning/using it will also skill up conjuring. There's a bow version I'm working toward so I can complete my vision of an Archer Mage.

        Aside from that, what you use the most is what skills up the fastest, if you go about with a destruction spell in one and a mace in the other, then you lose out the speed of leveling destruction with two hands. There's an early perk that augments the power of dual wielding the same spell on two hands, for example, they can weave that spell into a bigger, badder version of Flame, for example.

          That Blood Dragon I talked about yesterday? I owned it in the face with dual-cast Fireball, which would stagger the dragon on every hit (or even near miss). Apparently sufficiently powerful spells, when dual-cast, can stagger even a dragon.

          I'm not (quite) strong enough at level 21 to continuously toss Fireball in the same way I can toss double Firebolt, but I can certainly see it happening at some point. With a +50% Fire Magic damage perk and high Stealth, I'm able to pretty much take down everything I run into. Draugr Warlord? No sweat. Hagraven? Whatever. Troll? Sure. Ice Wraiths in the multiples? Not an issue. Blood Dragon? Yup. Groups of enemies? OK.

          The only thing that has fazed me so far are fire-resistant spellcasters like the occasional Necromancer Adept who somehow manages to acquire fire resistance. But then I just switch to dual cast ice magic and own them in the face that way.

            OK, went home for lunch and tossed around all the different options that were posed, and discovered the best way for me is dual wielding magic! (didnt know i could do this until i spoke with you guys.) spark in one hand, fire in the other, man, as Icemage said, it's easy to own them in their face! I just keep backing away at different angles to keep them from hitting me with attacks, and hold down both triggers at the same time and hit them with spark and fire at the same time and their hp shoots down to nothing fast! I also use BBQ's advise and snipe off the enemies from afar. When they come running up, i swithc to dual wield magic and own their faces!

              Oh Stray Dog, I barely knew thee.

              Could take on seven wolves and two saber-toothed tigers all on your own.

              Decided to follow me, already loyal to a fault.

              Met your fate with four giant spikes of ice through-out your body.

                Just so you know, you do extra damage while sneaking doing melee and ranged.

                Archery has some great perks, not only to damage bonuses, but a "zoom in" ability, an ability that slows down time for better aiming and there's a x3 ranged damage damage perk in the Sneak category. There's also a dragon shout that slows down time, which is nice to use as an extension as it doesn't consume the stamina zooming in does.

                I completed the College of Winterhold questline last night. There are two great pieces for casters there that net you 200% magicka regeneration, pretty much ensuring you'll never need to down a potion again. That line of quest is also how I came upon the shout that slows down time.

                There appears to be an issue in the PS3 version that came to light, but its also a rather easy fix. For whatever reason, the PS3 version of Skyrim gets choppy when you have numerous saves backed up on the HDD. If you keep it to five or less, you should be OK, but anything over ten and the game starts to stutter like crazy and your save file just grows larger, too. I experienced some of this at the peak of my companion quests.

                Earlier today I did some file erasing and also just crafted out excess inventory for skill ups just incase my being a packrat was increasing file sizes. The latter didn't do much to change file sizes, but the game is back to running smoothly again.

                So far the worst bugs I've encountered have actually been rather hilarious. There was an instance where I shot a Silver Hand orc in steath mode and his corpse rocketed toward me and landed next to me. Another time when I got those two pieces of magic gear I alluded to, when equipping them in tandem, my characters head disappears beneath the hood. The graphic doesn't always load properly for some reason, but when it does appear, you kind of look like Doctor Doom.

                They've come a long way from the issues Marrowind had, to say the least.

                    Here's to a life of name mispronunciations, Dovakin.

                    "Dove-a-kin" or "Do-vack-in. He's going to hear that phonetically for all time, even though its supposes to be "Doh-vah-keen." He's going to tell people to just call him Tom.

                    Zelda Williams now has someone to feel sorry for. Thankfully, her name was already a name before the game and the game just popularized it a little.

                      I don't see how anyone could pronounce Dovahkiin in either of those ways. If it were actually written Dovakin, you'd probably be right, but it isn't. Either way, if it becomes an issue he could just change the way he writes his name, like Ettore Boiardi (Chef Boyardee).

                        2419 Armor. / 6399 Damage using (Smithing, Alchemy, Enchanting) (only 33 Perks!) 32.9k Backstabs!

                        If you take the time to raise Alchemy and Enchanting you can seriously trivialise the game.

                        Going to try a caster on my second playthrough but right now stealth and archery just seem stupidly overpowered and fun.

                          It might also end up Doo-vah-ken. I'm Ian and people fuck that up on a regular basis.

                            After listening to the song I don't see how anyone could mispronounce it, but it they still do feel free to stab them with an Ancient Nord Sword. That should get the message across.

                            Also, it pains me to say this but I'll have to agree Aela is probably the best option for marriage in the game. Other than that Housecarl girls are relatively good options.

                            Not like I'll do it any time soon mind you, since the marriage thing is awfully superficial; I was expecting at least a new quest or two related to marriage and way more dialogue, but it doesn't look like that's the case. So yeah, I don't need extra gold or a free meal once a day so I'll wait to see if mods make it much more interesting in the mean time. <_<;

                            Yeah, kinda sad I read more books inside a game than outside.

                            High Hrothgar has some interesting stuff about the Blades and the Dragonborn, so I spent some time there having fun just reading and spamming candlelight since I didn't want to steal the books. XD

                              Story time -Part II-

                              So I mentioned before I don't really like using fast travel. One of the reasons is because I get to pick a lot of alchemy materials along the way. So I walk-by harvest a lot.

                              Well, it seems I may have been harvesting a little too much (and haven't slept enough), because yesterday I actually tried to harvest flowers twice while walking down the street.

                              Like, I saw the flowers while I was passing by and actually tried to grab them. Force of habit ftl. <_<;;
