Although, if you play on PC there's always the option of getting a mod to make Vampires/Werewolves cool. <_<

Update: Sad to report that unless you aren't using ANY texture mods the HD pack is just not worth it. The Serious Landscape retexture and the Real Water along with HD outfits just blow Bethesda's out of the water with waaaaaay less performance loss.

      So yeah

But at least the (GE)CK is already here.

      Edit > The texture pack doesn't even upgrade Water. <_<;

Well thanks to BBQ, I'm no longer a vampire, and I'm not going to throw Skyrim in the trash... I'm playing on PS3, so no mods for me.

        Last night in Skyrim:
I haev to add, I'm bummed that there are certain enchantments that can only go with certain types of armor. If an enchantment can be used on a piece of armor, it should be able to be applied to all types of armor... BS! I made some dragon boots and hands, and I wanted to added the + magic regen ability to it, but it couldn't meld... Boo! So... I can't even really where the light dragon armor, since there's no enchantment I can add to it that makes it better than anything else I'm wearing... That's some shit... I get to 100 balcksmith, 80 enchanting, and I can't make a better foot or hand piece that's better than some random shit i pickup? Fail... Currently my feet are +30 carrying capacity, which is nice, and the hands are +30% lockpicking, which is also nice. but it's not 100% for my mage build which is what i wanted... Anyone have any insight? If i made glass hands and feet could that take +magic regen or - % destruction casting enchantments? Or does no hand or feet allowed to take those enchantments, which is what I'm believing... Any other better pieces of ahnds / feet I'm going to stumble across later in the game better than my +lockpicking / + carrying?

Yes, armor pieces can only be enchanted with certain enchantments. I don't remember which only corresponds to which but each piece (ie feet, hands, body, head, necklace, ring) is only capable of having some specific enchantments.

Stamina regeneration is one of the nicer ones, imo.

I really don't like how you can only enchant your shield with elemental resists and not the Shield Blocking enchantment I've actually seen on some shields I've just found in treasure chests and what not.

Enchanting can be broken off the hinges in a very specific way, which is an alchemy exploit in the Fortify Restoration category. That said gear and perks should be considered together rather than separately.

Enchanting used to be a royal pain. You'd have to senselessly grind magic skills in prior games, which affected stat allocation based on what was used, to get them to the level where you could use them for enchantments - but then they could be applied to anything and take skills over the top. Or in Morrowind's case, wearing too many constant enchantments would crash the game. So you foul totally break stealth with spells like Chameleon and never be seen, especially when applied to enchantments in Oblivion or crash the game a lot with Levitate and speed enchantments.

So they scaled spells and enchantments back a bit, but as I mentioned, they seem to have missed that Fortify Restoration exploit in Alchemy, so you actually can still rip balance off the hinges if you like.

Video really starts at 13:20. Todd Howard Keynote and a preview of some of the things that may find their way into DLC for SKyrim

Edit: ...and the douchebags at Gamespot privated the video. I'll see if I can find another link.

But the video had perk trees for Vampires, Werewolves, new Werebears.
              Adoptable kids
              flying vampire form for vampires
Kill shots for magic and archery
              A giant mudcrab
              flying on dragons
              moving platforms in dungeons

              Stuff like that

Edit 2; Here it is without sound:

Started another game because that's just what I do. It's a bad habit to do so constantly before I've even finished one run through. But I like being able to see it again after I'm more aware of what is actually going on in a story, rather than just starting out and being bombarded by names and terminology I don't understand at the time.

Pretty neat, and many of those are already mods. The giant crab was pretty awesome and will probably inspire quite a few mods. And the kill cams, dungeons and AI improvements looked pretty neat. Hopefully all of that makes it into future expansions and updates.

                  • Re: Elder Scrolls SKYRIM

I've been having lag issues with my mouse lately and it's damn near killed Skyrim for me. I'm not even certain it's actually an issue, it could all be in my head but I find myself having to make larger motions to achieve the same turns and aiming now. I haven't changed anything in my setup, which makes it really weird. Did a system restore last night just to see if I might be able to roll back some stealth driver update or something. Then the PC froze so I spent a while playing tetris and drinking. Desktop came back up and everything seems ok now. Mostly. I'm not convinced it's fixed. I hate being so particular about my mouse sensitivity. If it gets mucked up it can really ruin a game for me. But it's all good now.

                    So yeah, Skyrim...

I have a big stompy Frost Atronach now. He can actually take a hit unlike my flame atronach, so now I find myself hanging back a bit more often and filling enemies with arrows. I still can't aim for beans, and the big stompy guy gets in the way half the time so I still end up running in with a blade often enough but it's all working out.

Over the course of multiple characters, I've found that I tend to enjoy the game when my character concept is 'generic adventurer' and maybe has a slight preference for a skill, and everything else is just handled by feeling it out as I progress naturally. My "I'm going to be a fire-ball hurling mage" character didn't turn out so well. My hammer-wielding stormcloak lost momentum fairly quickly. Admittedly the sneaky Khajit was a ton of fun, but eventually got shelved as well. I think it's a problem of trying to limit myself to a particular play style rather than just running with whatever comes naturally to dealing with any given situation. My original character was an axe wielding barbarian of sorts, but that didn't stop him from having well over 50 Sneak and a fair bit of archery and enchanting on top of his more generic 'kill everything' skills. Different situations yield different approaches and when you limit yourself to a finite number of approaches, things can get stale.

So yeah, generic adventuring type seems to be the way to go. That's the beauty of Skyrim, I don't have to tie myself down to one approach, I can realistically have multiple ways to deal with any given situation, and any proper adventuring type would more than likely make use of more than one approach.

I'm with ya Cid. I think I'm going to change my 440+ mana, dual wielding fireball slinging mage into a 2 handed, dragon armor wearing fighter. It sucks i can make dragon armor but can't wear it... Plus, i enjoy 2 handed weapons... I'm level 34 i think. I'll just start putting more level ups into hit points. I think I've put all but 3 level ups into mana, the rest into HP...

You'll probably want some stamina as well. My melee encounters tend to rely a lot on power attacks stunning foes, or shield bashing foes.

LOL, when i've been using the 2 handed weapon, I've been avoiding power attacks because they take too long to swing and I normally miss...
