Well it's that time again. After joining the Dark Brotherhood I quickly lost momentum. Their outfits are very silly looking and the gloves have clipping issues with my Thieves' Guild armor, which just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think I just burn out if I play one character for too long, and then a lot of the dungeons start to blur together and you've finished your guild quest so it feels like you've won and it all starts to feel a little stale and you just need a breath of fresh air and holy run-on sentences Batman.

So it's time for a new character. This time we're going with a stupid Nord warrior, as opposed to the mildly intelligent one I rolled on my first play through. So far she has taken a liking to connecting war-hammers with peoples' faces and punching guards that get belligerent.

So my mage has been good as of late. I finished the mage school quest line and got some great gear there... I can now get off 4 dual wielded fireballs that pretty much destroys anything, well except for dragons, and I havent run across the dragon priests that I've seen you guys talking about, but they sound tough. As of alte I've kept soul trapper in the left ahnd and fireball in the right hand, it's a quick way to capture souls, lol... On another note, I've heard you guys talk about enchanting a weapon that will automatically trap its soul. In order to get this enchantment, do you need to disenchant a weapon that "traps souls"? then you learn the enchantment and you can put it into another weap? Oh, and bbq, I havent been able to find the enchantment of "banish" that you said you've been using to enchant daggers for sale. Is that a banishment enchanted item you stumble upon on a certain questline, or is it bought from someojne along the way?

Didn't you have to fight off a Dragon Priest for the Mage school quest-line? I know I did. The big spooky guy that hurls lightning that two-shots you and drops a funny mask? No? Oh well, good to hear you're fairing better as a mage than I did.

As for the soul trapping enchantment, yes you need to find a weapon that already has the enchantment and disenchant said weapon in order to learn the enchantment. Once you know the enchantment you can make use of it to enchant other weapons.

Oh, yeah! I killed that guy, i just didnt know he was a "dragon priest." That was a tough fight! I saved it right before i killed the last guy that was shooting that lightning onto him protecting him. I died like 6 times in a row, then guess how I beat him? I just stood across the room from him, right where i killed the last mage. The stun locked him with dual wielding firebolt over and over again until he died. LOL. Yeah, he was tough...

I believe I just acquired my 7th (out of 8) of the Dragon Priest masks. I beat the main questline finally but the Greybeards can't supply me with any more whispers. Of course, I still haven't tried that shouting in towns way yet.

I bought the Solitude house and I was pretty disappointed. I rather like my Markarth dwelling much much more. I saved right before-hand so I just went back in time like it had never happened. Maybe after I accumulate over 100k I'll come back and buy into be all the Thanes that I'm not already.

I made a huge miscalculation/assumption... I went the light armor path in smithing. I thought that once I'd gotten the Dragon Armor perk at 100, I'd be able to buy the Daedric perk. The trees do not work that way. In order to get the smithing I want I'm going to have to spend perks on the Heavy armor creation perks. This irks me. But whatever.

I don't reallt know the difference between the glass armor, dragon armor, daedric armor, etc... Is any of that high end armor geared towards mages? Or is none of it? I'm understanding from your post that the daedric you want to equip, you cant because thats an actual perk on the heavy armor side you need to get to?

I'd assume Glass is totally cool. Light Dragonscale armor would be fine ... But I'm not really aware of any detrimental affects for wearing heavy armor while casting. Maybe I just missed that or something.

I'm talking about the Smithing tree. One path is light armor. One path is heavy armor and they converge at 100 Smithing with the perk to make Dragon armor. But if you go up the light armor path when you get to 100 Smithing, you cannot go 'reverse' down the heavy armor path. You need to start at the beginning. Think I now need perks in Steel, Dwarven, and Ebon before I can put a perk into Daedric which are where the best weapons are made. The armor probably looks cool too but I've not seen any. At this rate I'll be getting Daedric out of chests and off off looting bodies way before I'm able to actually create it myself. It's a bummer.

It's only geared toward mages if you enchant it as such or find it already enchanted. There's really no penalty for wearing proper armor as a mage.

The whole split in the smithing perk tree irritates me. It's heavily skewed toward the heavy armor side of the tree, what with the best armor and weapons being Daedric. I would have preferred if more perks were like Dragon armor in that there was both a heavy and a light version. It's just really frustrating to take the light armor side as a light armor specialist and then realize that glass weapons aren't really going to measure up against what you could have had if you took the heavy armor side of the smithing tree.

Oh, I gotcha. Ok cool, I unknowingly have taken the light armor side, which is the side I wanted to go down... And it's good to hear that you can have a light dragon armor. I was kind of hoping that's the case. But I don't know if I can get a better armor other than the body piece i got after finishing the mage school quest. The head and body piece you get kick ass.

Mages tend to prefer the robes they find, because the percent alterations in mana cost and regen are so much higher than the player can create themselves.

I found the smithing perks to be odd, as well, because there's a heavy armor perk in there that allows the creation of plate steel and better upgrades on the Blades armor.

Idr the head piece at all... I only remember the body cuz I still pack it around. And it kinda looks like a 80's rodeo jacket to me.

As I keep on rethinking what I want out of my character, I keep on restarting my game to start building it differently. How is a mage player anyway? Maybe I haven't been playing with enough finesse, but I find that, even early in the game, I get slaughtered by enemies. Followers are not as much of a help because I have to wait for them to follow me because they always take the long way around. Or get lost altogether. Maybe a stealthy mage would be an interesting idea.

But, I'm sure to nobody's surprise, I'm trying to make a mage-warrior "spellsword" type of character. Eh though, I hear the later parts of the game aren't very friendly to characters that are too generalist. Hoping I'm not spreading myself too thin right now.

Really a shame this game can't have an online mode of any sort. Certainly not on the level of an MMO, but it seems like it would be such a strong candidate to at least play with 1 or 2 friends or something. Seems like such a huge waste to develop a character in such a vast world and nobody to share it with.

As for the guilds, the storyline I'm going to focus on progressing through is the College of Winterhold one too.

Mage didn't get much better as I got further into the game. It was not for me, I'll leave it at that.
