  • RTS games like End War?

Anyone know of any games like Tom Clancy's End War? I have played all of my PS3 games (Not a large library.), about three times over, and I can't find any good games that I enjoy to play, such as End War.

So, if anyone knows of any PS3 games that are like End War, please let me know about it. I am really bored with my current collection of games...

RTS games on consoles are generally made of fail (EndWar included). If you're absolutely dying to play an RTS on a PS3, maybe give R.U.S.E. a try.

      What about Supreme Commander?

And yeah, I would definitely stick to PC for RTS. The only really good console RTS ever IMO was Halo Wars, and that game's population has been reduced down to hell.

I wouldn't even call Halo Wars "good". Just "less bad" than the rest.

Me and my friends regularly group up to play Command and Conquer: Kane's Wrath and Red Alert 3. Plays very well for a console version.

Otherwise, yeah. I can see why some people will always stick with the genre on PC.

Edit: Oh wait, PS3. Well, you still have Red Alert 3, though I much prefer Kane's Wrath.

            Why not?

Great production values, fairly decent game balance (through the patches, though a couple of issues were left unresolved in the end such as requiring Canister Shell for tanks to be able to kill Arbiter) a good plot and most importantly, the best controls of any console RTS by far. Halo Wars was so well done that it basically came down to pure micro (along with your strategy of course) leaving very little room for macro.

This is actually something I don't care for in general, as it makes economic strategies irrelevant or just very difficult to pull off, but it did make for a lot of fun and engaging battles. I'm not promoting it as a Halo fanboy (though I do love me some Halo) I'm promoting it for being the best damned console RTS I've ever played, and I've tried several.

2nd place is a tie between Kane's Wrath & Supreme Commander.

Thank you for the responces. The reason why I want to play a RTS game on the PS3 is because, I dislike playing video games on my computer. Sure, its nice, but I prefer to lay back when playing my video games.

Yeah, but that's not a good reason to give up mouse/keyboard. Seriously. Surely you can find SOMETHING else to play other than RTS.

Maybe RTS games are my favorite Genre, since RPG has lately gone down the hole for Consoles? Maybe I will Try Deus Ex though, but that depends on how it goes. I HATE FPS games though. Its the same thing over and over.

I would really love something like DW online, kinda like how LOTR was. I can't remember the full name though.

The only RTS-like genre that doesn't suffer horribly from being on a standard console controller is Tower Defense, and there's a fair number of such games on the PS3. If you're after true RTS and really call yourself a fan of the genre, you've no one to blame but yourself if you don't want to play your favorite genre on the platform that not only has the best control scheme for it (M+KB) but also the vast majority of good games in the genre (Starcraft, Warcraft, Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire, Command and Conquer, etc.).

I also cry foul on your dislike of FPS, as well as your implication that every game released is in FPS. It's certainly not my favorite genre in the world, but if you think every first person game is the same or that most games released are FPSs, you're not looking hard enough. Mirror's Edge is a first person parkour running game with minimal gunplay. Fallout 3 / New Vegas are played from first person perspective, but no one in their right mind would call them FPSs. Bioshock has plenty of first person gunplay, but none of it is what makes the game great. Portal is as far from "the same" as you can possibly get from the standard formula.

Of the nearly 100 game discs I own for my PS3, only 14 are played from a first person perspective:

                    Bioshock
                    Bioshock 2
                    Borderlands
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
                    Fallout 3
                    Killzone 2
                    Killzone 3
                    MAG
                    Mirror's Edge
                    Portal 2
                    Resistance: Fall of Man
                    Resistance 2
                    Unreal Tournament III

Of THOSE, only eight are anything resembling traditional shooters (Call of Duty, Killzone, MAG, Resistance, UT3).

If you seriously can't find anything to play in the current generation of games after 5 years of releases on every console (even the Wii), you're doing it wrong.

What I mean by FPS games by being the "Same", is that all you do is pick up a gun, and shoot at another person. Sure, some FPS games have options to dive behind cover, or you need to do a puzzle during a fire fight, but it all comes down to how fast you can kill the other person, before they can kill you in a FPS game, or finish the puzzle.

I'm not saying that all first person games are the same, I played Mirrors Edge, and I LOVED it. One of the best games I have ever played.

But.... I have played Fall out three, and I HATED that game. Worst game I have played IMO. I played CoD games, all of them so far, and they turn out to be the same, shoot the person in front of you and continue onto the next objective. Resistance, and Resistance two are also games that I have played, and they are also "Shoot the ones in front of you, and continue onto the next thing." Sure, there are bosses in the game, but how does it change it from a traditional FPS game?

Also, maybe the other reason why I don't play RTS games on my computer are because my computer can't handle video games? I don't make enough money to upgrade my PC every time a game comes out for the computer that I want to play. With a console, you don't need to do that.

What I want are the old games back, the games that where actually games, not the crap that they spew out every month or so, and call it a game, with a bunch of DLC that you buy to make the game and actual game. I want games like FF7, FF8, Spyro, Megaman, Champions RTA, and of Norrath, Dark Cloud, FF Tactics (PS one, not the crappy DS version.), Takida, and so on.

I also want RTS games that require you to actually THINK unlike most of them are now. Ones that if you use the same tactics over and over, they AI would respond to it, and change to fight against it. Or, have random chances for stuff to happen. Such as you are fighting in a hall way, and there is a door next to you. You can either try to retreat and go through the door with your team, or the door could open at any time, knock one person into another, knocking them down, making it so they have to stand up, and now you are fighting on two sides, and you gotta make a choice to retreat, or push your way through one way or another.

I just got done saying that there are 80+ games in my PS3 library that aren't even played in first person perspective and all you can take away from it is that Call of Duty is an archetypical military FPS?

Or you could just play Starcraft. Unless you're secretly Strong Bad and have a 286 Lappy.

FF7, FF8, FFT are playable on the PSP. Maybe you should invest in one? There's also a boatload of RPGs/SRPGs on the PSP.

RTS make you think... when? They're all about reaction and planning.

If you want a game that makes you think, go get yourself an old copy of Jagged Alliance 2 (PC).

I STRONGLY dislike blizzard. They make too much money off of an MMO, and now they are pulling that crap with D3? Legalizing RMT in it? It still wont stop RMTs. I also don't like Sci-fi games. I have played the Warcraft games though, but no one plays the actual game online any more, its all modded.

I know they are playable on the PSP, but I play them on my PS3 instead. I think the PSP is too costly at this moment, and the VITA is coming out soon. Also, I only pick up a portable gaming system like maybe once every 2-3 months? I don't think its worth it.

Strategy is about planning ahead, and RTS is about reaction times, but I want one that actually makes you think as well. Such as the example I gave. Something that can't be accounted for, and you need to make a decision in a split second, weigh the pros and cons against each other, quickly thinking about which path would be the best to take.

Age of Mythology? Age of Empires? You've got options.

Also, Starcraft War Chest is like $20 even when it's NOT "on sale". I don't think you're going to be contributing to the downfall of gaming with a purchase like that. Also, why bring Diablo III into a discussion about RTS? I dislike Activision more than you can possibly imagine, but I don't let that color my opinions of their games - particularly Blizzard's older titles.

If you don't like any of these suggestions, then the only thing I can recommend is that you move to Switzerland and sign a blood contract with the Bavarian Illuminati to have them influence a game studio to make the fictional game you think you'd like to play, because it frankly doesn't exist anywhere, on any platform.

Used PSPs can be picked up for <$100, sometimes much less if you look in the right places. Now, if you're going to get the PS Vita anyway, I can see justifying the wait, but cost of entry on a PSP isn't really all that high.

I hate to break it to you, but I've played virtually every RTS worth playing, and unless you're one of those crazy players that have 150+ APM (actions per minute), you're not really doing a lot of "split second decision-making" in an RTS.

Yes, there are games out there that are RTS, but I prefer console gaming. When I play a video game, I want to relax on the couch, with a controller in my hand, and laying back on it. With the computer, you are sitting there in a chair, and when you have nothing else to do all day, it starts to hurt sitting in that chair.

I have wanted a PSP, but I would rather just wait for the Vita though. I also am a little warry of it because I barely pick up my DS that I have. The last time I played it was about 6 months ago? I have good games for it, but portables don't interest me all that much. The reason why the Vita does is because it has 3G on it.
