@_@ only a 5.6 for Story, which makes me very sad. I was very much hoping for some good story/RPG elements and not just another zombie shooter.

What were you expecting from a game that has a pro football player, a raper, a hotel hostess with a past as an assassin and a former cop that just HAPPEN to have immunity to becoming a zombie in this outbreak?

Promotional trailer is a promotional trailer. They're never, ever representative of a final product. I can't take anyone seriously that thought this was going to be some emotionally gripping experience when it a zombie outbreak game.

The gameplay is less-explored territory and the weapon customization seems to be a huge hit with reviewers, but otherwise its just another generic zombie apocalypse game. I was going to get it this week until a more rational part of my brain kicked in and told me I should wait for a price drop.

This isn't exactly a Deus Ex, Skyrim, Dark Souls or Zelda-level experience. Its just a nice throw-away multiplayer title. Nice, but nothing incredibly special unless you can't get Left 4 Dead or Borderlands for soem reason. Again, I'll get it eventually, but I wasn't exactly expecting this one to be AAA.

With Zelda, Skyrim, Dark Souls and so many others big guns around the corner, I have to pass on this for now.

Well, he could be, you never know. I suspect him more of being a "gangsta"... you know, as much as any guy with a home in Beverly Hills can be. Which is to say he probably gets high, sleeps with white girls and that's about it. You know, someone as threatening as Snoop Dogg, which is to say as threatening as Alice Cooper or Ozzy Osbourne. Which means you just want to hug them because they're really just teddy bears and not threatining at all.

One day, Eminem will get there. He just needs to lose the attitude and realize most people could kick his ass. Or fade and become a producer like everyone else seems to.

I'm more of a hip-hop person anyway. I saw the rapper for this game and just kinda rolled my eyes. They can make Purna an ex-cop turned bodyguard but they can't rise above cliches for the other black character?

Given the other three characters, Purna seems pretty ordinary, which is likely why I'd play her first. Well, that and she's the one with an affinity for guns.

oh ya this is very original because Borderlands didn't have zombies and melee combat like this and a better looking location (nice tropical island!) , and more realistic 1st person driving (Borderlands vehicle is only 3rd.)

and L4D can't be compared to this either mew, since all 4 of those characters don't level up and have no unique skills, and the maps are not open world and stuff.

So ya, Dead Island brings lots of mew mew goodness!

Its only bad when white people do it to black zombies, though they were technically Plagas variants..

mmmmm I am liking it so far, I decided to just jump into multiplayer (I normaly dont do that) and it was great, drop in/out was fluid and already there where moments where I was running "oh crap, oh crap, oh crap,oh crap".

Did you purchase your copy from Steam? I read that people were getting a beta build through their Steam download, but I'm not sure if that was early preloads or if they've replaced it with the proper retail build.

Tempted to grab it... but I'unno. I have a feeling I'm going to abandon it like I did Borderlands. So far, it basically IS Borderlands!

yeah it really is lol, even when I hit select to go to my map..... it is the same layout

MAP > Quests > Inventory > Skills > Players

and even the skills page is set up just like it as well.

That said, I am loving it though, great game so far

Downloading the patch right now. It's very small so I don't know if this is just a temporary patch so the beta build is playable while they deploy the real version or what.

I got it for 360, so thankfully I don't have to worry about an incomplete version.

The game is definitely rough around the edges, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't having a lot of fun exploring the island with a good friend of mine, merrily slaughtering and driving over zombies as we explore for loot.


I wish I could improve my character's defense in the skill tree, though. To say you have low defense in this game would be an understatement.
