Re: Lollipop Chainsaw to be published by WB Interactive

Picked this up this afternoon but still trying to wrap up trophies and New Game+ on Dragon's Dogma. May post impressions when I get around to it later this week or so (it's going to have to play fisticuffs against the amazing Gravity Rush on my PS Vita for some of my playing time, however).

It's pretty much what you'd expect from a action brawler, though in saying that it's really a little bit of every action brawler you could name.

      Upgradeable purchasable combos like DMC
Combos play out similar to Dynasty Warriors.
Fights flow in the direction you want to attack like Batman Arkham games. Good for herding enemies.
Lock on system about as lousy as Kingdom Hearts.
Over the top gory QTEs like No More Heroes
Obsessed with setting up chain kills like PS2 Shinobi/Nightshade, but for scoring.

The bosses, however, are exactly what you'd expect from a Suda game. Insanely memorable encounters.

I want to get this game ... eventually. It sounds really, REALLY, fun ... something that a lot of recent titles seem to lack (at least for the PS3)

I'll get it when it goes on sale... Not really looking to spend $60+tax on something that'll only last ~10 hours, game-wise.

Already spent more than the alleged completion time repeating the first half of the stages for better scores, unlocking costumes, music, art concepts and the move list further. It's as long as you want to make it and there's the leaderboards as well. It also has a permadeath mode

People only there for narrative won't have much to like and be done with it in 5 to 6 hours since they probably set it on the easiest setting, but for score attack, time attack and achievement players there is more than enough here. Suda fans will probably get the most out of the story and be figuring out what it really says for a while.

There's always an interesting commentary to find in Suda games underneath what just seems like a filthy, juvenile nonsense. NMH, NMH2 and Shadows of the Damned all had it in spades. He's kind of like Kevin Smith in that way.

Re: Lollipop Chainsaw to be published by WB Interactive

Been playing this almost exclusively lately. Beat it about 4 days ago, and I've been working on doing everything in the game.

I don't think I've ever put this much time into a Suda game before. I'm a whore for extra unlockables, and I love having so many costumes to unlock.

Some of the achievements are a little tricky, though. Especially that really annoying one which requires you to do the gondola arcade mini-game in stage 4 without ever firing at anything. It wouldn't be so bad if the enemies on both sides didn't sometimes like to drop their pots at the exact same time. I finally got lucky, though. I also didn't like that you can't go back to the last checkpoint if you miss a coin on the rooftops in stage 2, making you have to quit and start the whole stage again if you miss a coin in that section on the right with the falling building. :<

But yeah...amazing game. I hope this game sells well. Suda games don't get NEARLY the amount of love they should. I want a sequel so much.

              Secret plot info! :U

Dunno, still pondering saving it for a movie snack. I might go see Brave this weekend.

                      Ok I gave in.

It's strawberry. Makes sense, as that's Juliet's favorite flavor.

Took me too long to finish that lollipop and I was still tasting it like 12 hours later. Not bad, but certainly not something I'll be doing again. Had to brush my teeth like three times just to feel safe from cavities. Dunno how candy stores sell stuff like it.

But hey, it was free, also got six keychains of Nick's head, an XL T-shirt, megaphone, bloody pompoms, a baton, 1GB thumbdrive, poster and a "autographed" promo card.

I think the six keychains was a flub, but at least I have something to replace my Tanooki Mario keychain.
