Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary trades avatar armor for pre-order | Joystiq

Master Chief isn't the best at planning ahead. Think about it: When have you not known the guy to land on a planet with just two guns and no secret pouch of ammo? The plan always seems to be some variation of "I'll find some grenades and a Wraith and I'll just figure something out."

If you'd like to buck his example and be fully ready for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary with a pre-order, you'll be rewarded with the exclusive "Grunt Funeral" skull. Even if you're not huge on pre-orders, the idea of activating Grunt Funeral and seeing grunts exploding with the force of plasma grenades every time they're killed may be too much to resist.

Perhaps more enticingly, pre-order customers will also be given Master Chief Avatar Armor, so even if they lack John 117's spontaneity they can still share his fashion sense.

So an exclusive skull that actually has a pretty dramatic impact on gameplay (and is just plain hilarious) + Mark V armor for my avatar?

GOD DAMN IT I didn't want to have to pre-order this

I was planning on picking it up anyway, just not right away >_>

Essentially, nothing new. The entire game is completely recycled. Pass.

Adding new elements to an old game is a tricky thing, though, because you don't want to change the things that worked so well. They updated the multiplayer, but left the original campaign untouched, just updating the graphics for it.

I fail to see the problem there.

Zelda: OOT3D is the exact same campaign with new graphics and an improved user interface - doesn't change the fact its made me want to play through the game a ssecond time this year after the virtual console version and then I'll do Master Quest.

Plus it seems in Halo's case co-op on Legendary seldom gets old, to say nothing of runs on Blood Gulch and Sidewinder.

If Bethesda was tasked with remaking Morrowind, would you be butthurt when they added nothing new or would you agree that maybe, just maybe they should leave well-enough alone?

There's no problem, I simply see it for what it really is, which is a grab for more money. I'm also assuming they didn't bother including the FRC or flamethrower.

Which means you seem to have a problem with something. Remakes and re-releases happen all the time. When you make a game that's really popular and people play it well past its time or release, its kind of nice to have a spruced-up version.

            I don't know if I'd ever get a 360, but if I did, I'd certainly get this.

Its not like not getting it is going to stop MS from milking Halo and Fable over and over rather than expand their IPs beyond those two.

Still no problem. It was a great game, but I'm not going to buy it again because they ported it to a new engine.

                Of course if the troll (Dak) had even bothered following this at all, he would know;

                - They are completely remastering the soundtrack with 343's new guys, so we'll see if they can compare to Marty.
                - 6 of the original maps from CE brought back and tweaked
                - 1 new Firefight map that uses one of the Campaign's levels.
                - All the guns are being balanced to function just as they did in CE (yay for 64-bullet AR again!)
                - You have the option to play classic or with the Reach Engine
                - In MP mode, you can also play either classic, or use new mechanics from Reach including AA's and Assassinations
                - The whole thing is about $40 USD which ain't bad.

The best part about the Reach mechanics is I heard they are NOT bringing in Camo and Armorlock, those will go back to being pick ups. While I'll my DMR, I'll have a lot more fun not losing a bajllion kills to fucking ground-pounding, corner-camping n00bs stalling for time for their team mates to save them.

So it's all recycled except for the soundtrack? My mistake.

                  Pass.
