Origin Dickery: Battlefield 3 not coming to Steam -Destructoid

If there were any suspicions I had that EA now considers themselves a platform-holder, they're pretty much confirmed at this point. Yes, it is coming to other digital storefronts, but not the one EA would consider a direct rival.

Their reasoning is they can't release BF3 on the Steam because it would require being Steam-enabled, basically. Now, sure, we can say Steam is the only place you'll find most Valve games for PC now, but they're a platform holder - EA is a platform holder in their minds well in advance of the reality where they aren't.

Also, you'll be required to create an Origin account to play BF3, even if its the console versions.

So they just sacrificed all DICE's work to give Modern Warfare 3 this round and just to spit in the face of the nicest guy in the room.

I already own BF2142 through the EA Store, so I doubt this is going to be much different.

I also have to wonder what it is with EA and being against modding the game for PC. DICE said they won't be releasing mod tools for the game.

I'm not saying that surprises me, The Sims died for me the day Sims 2 came out no one could share mods through EA's portal like the could for the original game, which was one of the best parts of the experience.

Instead, we only had the option to buy what EA made.

They weren't selling shower booths that teleported people in from other houses, though.

PC Gaming: EA does it wrong.
