SWTOR bans players for playing the game wrong -Destructoid

Gist of the story is Bioware left an exploit wide open around a level 40 quest and rather than fix it out of concern for the game's economy, they outright banned players for exploiting something they were aware of and could have fixed. This is made worse by Bioware explaining they banned the players over something they still haven't fixed. Nor will they admit the banning were probably a mistake, those players were just doing it wrong.

Very classy.

This pretty much happened to me with Warhammer Online. Bioware took over it, fucked it up and left in a ton of exploits and banned anyone who stumbled across them by mistake. \o/

EDIT: Basically it involved flying mounts and being able to engage them in melee combat when flying through tunnels. The mounted person can fling themselves stupidly far by hitting eject if hit by a melee attack.

You're playing an MMO on release, what do you expect? All that will be available is levelling content which is always boring as hell and TOR is no exception.

Actually Bioware need to patch the shit happening in Illium. it's the exact same thing as Tol Barad in WoW except it can be done 24/7 instead of once every 2 hours so the rewards are far greater.

Seriously though, I've been hearing/reading Galaxies was more fun at release than TOR. If anything because it gave players more freedom to do things, while TOR felt too much on rails. But not having played TOR I have no idea whatsoever if that's actually true.

What do you guys think? o_O

I think MMOGs need to take a Skyrim approach and reduce the amount of initial areas in favor pumping up more content/activities and openess into the starting zones. Specially if they encourage interaction between players.

Because in the end what keeps people playing in the first months while they become addicted (and devs finish ironing the release bumps) is the people they are playing with, rather than the game's content alone. This would also require providing content that encourages social interaction between players without punishing them for not having time for it, or doing things alone.

And how do you do all that you say? Dunno, I'm not the one getting paid to design these things.

My biggest pet peeve is the game is more linear zone-wise. The "worlds" do not feel like planets because you're literally limited to this one little box of a zone. Unlike in WoW where you can bunny hope over mountains into the next zone, if you even attempt that in TOR, you'll fall into oblivion at the end of the map... Picture Valkurm in FFXI split up into 4 smaller zones. That's how the planets are in this game. It irks me something awful. I do enjoy the game, but I just have no drive to even log in. Not to mention, the feeling of claustrophobia in an MMO is never good.

This game... blows. I like the story a lot and I will play till the end of the single player storyline, but everything "MMO" about it is so ass backwards. I'm just gonna consider this game KOTOR3 with DLC once expansions come out for the single player storyline.

Yeah the game is feeling a lot like KOTOR 3 that you have to pay to play. It's not a bad game but fun is something you just can't add in an update.

Pretty much. Once I get to 50 (which should take less than a month), I'm going to unsub and resub when they put in new single player content. It's a 15 dollar DLC lol. It's okay though, I already feel I got my 60 dollars worth because the single player is that good, and I rarely play single player games.

I already cancelled my subscription, the game just has nothing in it for me. I was also reading several topics on people being banned for things such as "abusing the Galactic Trade Market". Basically a guy was buying low, and selling high, and making a lot of money. So they gave him a temporary ban because he was using it in "a way that wasn't intended". How are you supposed to use a market if not to try and make money?

Edit: I'm going to find the source of the marketing thing, I had a few topics open elsewhere talking about it, but I was at school at the time.

Keep in mind, if these are real, it's very sad how people are getting banned for so little. If they're fake, it's at least an interesting read.

Instead of Valkurm planet, Tatooine is akin to Konschtat (hell if I spelled that right) broken up into smaller zones.

Really, at what point do you go from game developer to having creepy Big Brother tendencies?

Also, really, its not more open world? Well, it is true "exploration" is a concept well beyond their grasp, but I though they'd at least try to make it feel more like a world and less on-rails.
