Well, Reggie admitted that the 3rd party game trailer (Ninja Gaiden 3, Darksiders 2, and the others) were actually running on PS3/360/PC engines, so as of right now we don't really know exactly what the Wii U is capable of. Being that it's still probably another year and a half away, I hope we get some sort of idea relatively soon. D:

ah poop it was? well I feel silly now -.-

but I still expect the system to output stuff that looks just as good as PS3/360

Yay to recap what I've been saying for the last several pages >.>b

Nothing overly exciting this year. A lot of cool stuff yes, but not nearly enough surprises (and I blame Kotaku for that) and I honestly found all 3 of the conferences dragged on a bit in some ways. Nintendo lingered on the 3DS stuff for just a bit, MS focused WAY the hell too much on Kinect, and Sony dragged on a bit with some of the demos no one gave 2 shits about like the Medieval Move etc.

Sony had the weakest closing of them all though - at least MS had Halo 4 right at the end, and Nintendo showed a bunch of Wii U & 3DS stuff. I was kinda hoping to see maybe Bungie or like Pachter said Epic Games (or even good old SE - ANYONE really) come out with some huge announcement no one knew was coming, but instead we got nothing.

Shit even just a short KB appearance would have made it worth it. They need to keep Kazuo Hirai off the stage, or at least limit his time a bit more. I like Kaz, but let's not kid ourselves - Tretton is a lot better on stage than he is.

I actually thought EA had the best conference over all, especially with that long BF3 trailer. Worst in the show, as always, goes to Ubisoft. I never want to see that twat-muffin on stage again (Or anywhere, really).

Hopefully we'll get some pricing info on Wii U in the next 4~6 months. I doubt I'll be an early adopter like I was with the Wii though. While Nintendo impressed me, I'm still feeling buyer's remorse over the Wii so I'll wait & see this time around, though I am cautiously optimistic they'll deliver. Vita can wait too, though that's largely because I A) Need a job and B) Waiting for info on how to transfer my PSP library, if at all possible be it registering my UPCs for a digital download or what have you.

I'm NOT re-buying my entire PSP library, Sony can go fuck themselves if that's the case. Same goes for my PS1 and PS2 library and actually, that could have been a huge thing that would have fired up the crowd I'm sure - Announcing either the return of BC function, or the addition of PS2 games finally to the PSN. But we got neither.

I think based on the real-time Zelda tech demo its safte to assume it can do HD as good or better at up to 1080p. That and I can move teh pretty to the controller if someone needs the TV or me to play games quietly on my headphones - which works for me.

Just imagine - people never have to leave a game of Call of Duty when nature calls. Oh, yes, people will go there.

And really, who doesn't do that stuff with video footage? Game footage for PS3 Bayonetta was actually the 360 version (because the PS3 version had some problems, though I think they got adressed later). FFXIII and LA Noire footage for 360 was actually footage from PS3 for the longest time.

Well be that as it may, I think that's the case with anything you give to someone too undisciplined to take care of things. With the exception of the first GameCube I had, every Nintendo product has gone the distance for me in terms of wear-and tear.

If I had to bet on durability for people that do go to great lengths to take care of their stuff, I think Nintendo is the safest bet there, though Sony's improved on that front since PS2 (its 360 with the DRE issues now).

I have been witness to the horrifying things a child can do to a Nintendo DS and Wii Mote + Nunchuck. I wonder how such damage occurs but I often keep my mouth shut because that means I'm probably helping someone as a customer over such matters. Its stuff that would never happen with something I'd own.

Sony said they'd look into a solution for that with PSPGo and it never materialized, so I wouldn't hold out any hope for a solution for that to NGP.. Its pretty clear they're not going to touch this issue. I'd just accept that's the way it has to be at this point.

The games I couldn't see myself trading in for PSP I had begun buy digitally anyway after the NGP announcement. I ended up using my physical copies to fund my 3DS. So now I still technically have my most important PSP games, though I'm sure Crisis Core and KH:BBS will sort out in time.

So I'd buy the rest of the games that matter to you digitally and the remainder I'd just trade in now. Gamestop does have a strong trade-in bonus going on right now +50% credit on used games (60% if you have that Power Up membership). Not saying that because I work there, just saying because its a a damn good deal and you're not likely to see better for several months anywhere.

You obviously take good care of your console equipment (and so do I), so for people like us it's "less" of an issue.

But you turn around and say yourself how easily a child can quickly destroy a handheld peripheral or device. I'm simply pointing out that this new controller with its own huge screen that can be used with a stylus is going to undergo a lot of wear and tear. I remember the worst thing that used to happen to controllers from normal gameplay was that you'd break an analog stick on an N64 controller because of too much enthusiastic Mario Party.

Now we've got this new thing that wants you posing all over the place with the controller, stabbing at it with a stylus (how long will it take a child to start experimenting with other vaguely stick-like objects like ballpoint pens and forks?), plus your usual run of people who throw controllers when they lose. And it's probably going to be around twice as expensive as our current controllers.

For Nintendo's target overall demographic, a lot of them will think twice about putting such a potentially fragile thing in reach of kids (or will learn their lesson the hard way once it breaks).

As such, the issue of average cost of ownership is going to loom large for a lot of potential buyers. How much would you like to bet that these people end up sticking with the Wii they already have, or just waiting for their kids to grow up a little and handing them a PS3 or Xbox 360.

P.S. I'm going to laugh really hard if Nintendo ever releases a game with that "ninja shuriken" mechanic they showed off in their promo reel for the Wii U. I can just see someone losing their grip on that big fat controller as their finger slides across the screen, flinging the device across the room onto the floor.

I think it was quite clear that Nintendo's really trying to extend their "target overall demographic" to everybody. Even "U." But seriously, what else can be said of a company whose main competition at this point isn't even Sony or Microsoft any more, but Apple?

(P.S.: Your bias glows with the intensity of a thousand suns. If console maintenance isn't as much of an issue for you, then why does the possibility of some idiot proving that the device isn't "foolproof" act as a negative selling point for you? Let Nintendo themselves worry about that, which I'm sure they have.)

I think I'm keeping my own bias capped to 100 suns, personally.

It's really "hateboying" that really rubs me the wrong way. I don't mind at all if people are exuberant over whatever Microsoft and Sony are offering (though that doesn't seem to very much be the case). But, really, people are hating on Nintendo simply for being their eccentric selves, so far as I see.

I'm sure they're so offended, they'll cry all the way to the bank, by the way.

I love it when the word fanboy is tossed around, the word really does not mean much anymore........

I was excited about the PlayStation Vita, and I am excited about the Wiiu

I will be getting both and specs do not really bother me, I go by my old way from back in the NES/SNES days.....

Does it look better then the old one? yes, Does it have a new control setup? yes

                    Buy!

That and I have bought every Nintendo system since SNES on day one, and I am not stopping now!

They used to represent the industry standard. You know that right? Not the odd one out, but the goddamn standard by which everything else was judged.

My rage is largely unjustified and fueled by bitter resentment of a company that once fulfilled all of my gaming needs that has since gone haywire in the name of large piles of money, but that doesn't mean all of my resentment is unjustified. Just most of it.

FTFY. Similar to Kinect and Move, Sony and Microsoft will once again be trying to play catch-up to cash in on Nintendo's success. Except, seeing as they weren't the ones that planned for it in the first place (and indeed, gambled on it failing), it will once again be their versions that are the real gimmicks.

They got lucky. Who knew people who don't play video games would fall in love with such a gimmicky console? Not Nintendo. They got lucky.

This is bound to be a horribly flawed analogy, but as far as I see it's going something like this:

                                Microsoft is pushing The Boondocks.
                                Sony is pushing Shin-Chan.
Nintendo is pushing My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
