  • The E3 2011 thread

To help keep the spam at a low, just stick all forthcoming E3 news here, guys.

This includes Sony, MS and Nintendo press conference stuff, PC stuff, Project Cafe, Playstation Vita and all the rest.

I hate that name for the PSP2/NGP, by the way, the Playstion Vita.

It makes me think of a pita, which makes me hungry.

Also, if you're posting info into the thread, cut-and-paste or paraphrase the important parts of the news for the folks at work so they can know what's up, don't just throw down links - work filters and shit, yo. Including links is fine, though.

Eh. the only thing that really interests me in there is the tombraider. I like the tomb raider style games.

Darksouls can just go and eff it self IMO lol. I hated the first game. Not that its hard, because I like that, but because of the way it was done.

So the one that may happen and the one that most certainly won't respectively.

If an FFVII remake occurs, I'm placing my bet that its going to be on 3DS and Vita to keep production costs low and maximize profits. With the position SE is in, gambling on an HD remake is probably not the best idea.

I'd also expect FFvsXIII to go to 360 and Cafe in addition to PS3. Its been in production longer than FFXIII was and SE probably wants to make sure its damn worth it. Leaving it to PS3 won't be worth it.

I expect a lot of Japanese publishers to do exactly what Konami has done and give up any platform exclusivity they maintained with Playstation. This has been a smaller trend over time and it seems to be snowballing now.

From what's been seen so far, Sony is playing to the increasing multiplatform approach for third parties with some saavy, encouraging the likes of Konami to make things like the HD version of Metal Gear and ZOE something that can transfer over to Vita and back to PS3.

If this was Sony's intent for removing PS2 BC, the countless delays of Ico/SotC collection and pillaging the PSP catalog for HD remasters of it all, I can start to appreciate those moves a bit more than I did in the past. Being able to have those games on Vita would certainly sell me one to go with a PS3.

That said, Vita does need to stand on its own, too, and I have no doubt 3DS will stand on its own long term. I'd like to see Vita have its share of exclusive content as well. So far the Sony first party stuff just isn't compelling to me. I need to see what the third parties have planned.

Nikkei: Wii successor has touchscreen controller, will arrive in second half of 2012 | Joystiq

The Nihon Keizai Shinbun -- the same publication that successfully "predicted" the DSi, the DSi XL and 3DS -- posted an article today stating that the Wii successor's controller will feature a six-inch touchscreen, as previously rumored.

According to Andriasang's summary of the subscription-only article, the controller will give "tablet-like controls" to games, and will also be usable as a portable game device on its own. The controller also includes a camera and a rechargeable battery.

Nintendo originally specified "2012" for the system; Nikkei says it'll be the second half of the year. Of course, even given the hist

Well, it that's now confirmed, I have to wonder about the bit where 3DS can also act as a controller for the system. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to try and do so.

I'd like to know just how far Nintendo is going to run with this.

Sony technically did this first, but they didn't milk the PSP & PS3 connection nearly as much as they could have. Nintendo I bet, will just take it as far as they possibly can.

This is basically shaping up to be the Nintendo tablet with a TV interface.

I would be disappointed if you couldn't. As cool as the 3DS is, it IS rather expensive - I'd hope that for the price I'm at least getting that functionality. Also, hell, you can already make the DS and PSP work as gamepads for the PC with the right homebrew.

Plus the DS already has Wii connectivity, even if it's only used for Pokemon Battle Revolution.
