      Ouch. But that means you will focus on keeping your leader alive and that the other characters in the party are expendable. Or was the design in stressing the importance of keeping EVERYONE alive? I'm not sure...

                      This is a good point. While previous Final Fantasys have never elicited complaints about linear gameplay, they have definitely been "follow this one path through this awesome scenery" ever since the PSX era. I'm guessing people are complaining now about not having more paths to explore because either A. SE had so much exploration available in XII or B. People just have higher standards now. And, to be frank, both excuses are good ones. Now that we have engines that can render beautiful backgrounds in realtime, there's no excuse for the same tunnel gameplay we had in the PSX era.

                      We should be able to walk through a wooded area, with plants reacting to our feet, tree branches swaying over our heads, and monsters running around the corner. If Skyrim can handle those graphics, so can XIII.

                        There was no GTAIII or Morrowind back then, so FF's traditional exploration was very good for it's time.

                        Nowadays... not so much. Specially considering they actually went backwards after XII and made XIII the most linear of all FF games to date. Although I only played the first part of XIII, rumor says you can actually explore a bit eventually, though I couldn't care less what happened by then.

                          oh ya mew, FFXIII admittingly just has a puddle for Gran Pulse field (with some strings of paths here and there) instead of a massive world like FFXII and FFs before it. And nothing fun to do. Those missions are really boring compared to FFXII's interesting Mark Hunts and Esper hunts. And the chocobos are completely missable in the story. They really flip flopped in the world design.

                            I once again turn to Skyrim to shame all of SE's excuses. They say the current consoles can't handle a world map. So I point towards Skyrim's huge expansive world where you can pretty much go anywhere you see. That seems like a pretty good world map template right there... *sigh*

                              oh ya and Type 0 proven traditional 3-D world maps can be done so easily and make world feel more open and massive (better to link the fields than going from field to field in linear fashion) without needing to necessarily making it TES style (though that would be great, mew!)
