  • Shinobi returns on 3DS

That's pretty much all there is to say at this point. It was confirmed to have a feature in the new NIntendo Power, but that's all that's known.

Could be 2D Shinobi or it could be the PS2 take with Shinobi/Nightshade.

    I'd take either either version.

Sonic Generations was also made official in that issue. Soooo, handheld version better than console version confirmed?

I approve 100%. The PS2 game was one of the most brutally hard games I've ever played too.

A couple more details about Sonic Generations 3DS also made it out.

While the console versions will have classic sonic for 2D and modern sonic for 3D levels. The 3DS version will will be largely in the 2D perspective, but modern Sonic will be doing what he does in the Sonic Rush games. I think those had 3D boss levels.

What's the reasoning behind this? Besides the fact that it's portable and that I'm more likely to be a 3DS than a 360 or PS3.

Yeah, they did. Sonic Rush also had a gauge for running extra fast and plowing through enemies.

Its just usually how it pans out with Sonic games on consoles and handhelds.

Sonic Team - you don't really know what you're getting.
Dimps - It'll probably be a really good Sonic, though furry fans and purists will swear by Sonic Team anyway.

Sonic Team has proven to have a very spotty track record just based on Sonic and Phantasy Star Online alone. The fact that another team did the Phantasy Star handheld games and they were better than the ones Sonic Team asked people to subscribe to on 360, PC and PS2 is pretty hilarious to me

Sonic Team was lost even with Yuji Naka at the helm now he's out there making interesting games again. Maybe Sega should just let these guys work on an original IP and let some new blood take on Sonic. Preferably people who were fans and knew what made it good.

A preview here, Sega's already sent out an early sample to the press:

          Preview: Shinobi 3DS- Destructoid

Its a return to the classic 2D style of Shinobi with some modernized twists, featuring the father of original hero Joe Musashi tossing kukris and katan-slashing about. First person ninja star bonus stages will return. There will be some first-person free-looking as well for certain objectives. Ninja magic also makes a return, accessible via the touch screen for quick access.

There are also large robot sharks and an Afterburner-inspired level.

          More pics in the article.

Graphics look a bit rough, but I'm just assuming that's from it being from an early build. Seems like they got to play the alpha version, the full release is supposed to be out this fall.
