I never played Radical Dreamers but according to Wikipedia...

The game belongs to the Chrono series and is a gaiden, or side story, to the 1995 game Chrono Trigger. It was released to complement its predecessor's plot, and later served as inspiration for Chrono Cross.[4]

Relation to Radical Dreamers

Chrono Cross employs story arcs, characters, and themes from Radical Dreamers, a Satellaview side story to Chrono Trigger released in Japan. An illustrated text adventure, Radical Dreamers was created to wrap up an unresolved plot line of Chrono Trigger.[23] Though it borrows from Radical Dreamers in its exposition, Chrono Cross is not a remake of Radical Dreamers, but a larger effort to fulfill that game's purpose; the plots of the games are irreconcilable.[23] To resolve continuity issues and acknowledge Radical Dreamers, the developers of Chrono Cross suggested the game happened in a parallel dimension.[24] A notable difference between the two games is that Magus—present in Radical Dreamers as Gil—is absent from Chrono Cross. Director Masato Kato originally planned for Magus to appear in disguise as Guile, but scrapped the idea due to plot difficulties.[23] In the DS version of Chrono Trigger, Kato teases the possibility of an amnesiac Magus.[25]

tl;dr The plots of both games are mutually exclusive but CC reused a lot of RD's plot.

Yay, cannon is borked. I'm going stick my fingers in my ears now and hum loudly while convincing myself that the franchise ended with the SNES version of Chrono Trigger.

Radical Dreamers is like a half baked fan fic. Someone later sat down and said, 'you know what, we could have done this so much better' and Chrono Cross came from that. Even then, time constraints required them to change a few things and pull others.

Radical Dreamers was a (very) rough draft for CC, and everyone involved pretends it never happened. If you ignore it, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross work much better together.

The funny thing is I came on to FFXI after FFXIV cuz it sucked ! I hope this doesn't blow either...

FFXI is MUCH better than FFXIV. And it can run on a PC that isn't up to par with most computers. Anything made after 05 I think should be able to run FFXI.

Also wanna point out that the easiest way to allow for plot flexibility and maintain continuity for the player is to simply have the entire game/server share in a single, constantly progressing storyline. This has already been done in other MMOs, such as EVE and TMO.
