Sadly, I have to agree with J9. If they aren't using an already established IP for their new MMO project, many people who saw what happened with XIV would be immediately turned off to whatever SE is dishing out. (No. I'm not hating on XIV. I'm simply stating what would probably occur due to people's unforgiving nature in these genre.) If it's an already established IP, then there's that initial draw to pull people in that are already interested in the story.

Personally, I would love a Star Ocean MMO. But, that's just me.

I'd be more interested in a redevelopment of FFxi. A complete make-over. HD this ish up, yo. So what if it kills off PS2 players? The generation's cycle after PS2 is coming to completion soon... it's time to buy another console. If it kills 360 players off as well... so be it. I'd throw down for a system/PC that I could play FFxiHD on.

Anyway... that's just my opinion.

Last time SE tried that they created FFXIV. They don't exactly have a good track record doing that.

/wouldn't upgrade my system to keep playing FFXI.

I was going to say that a KH MMO wouldn't work, but after thinking about it more it would be entirely possible if it's set before/during the Keyblade War.

Not sure I would want the Chrono universe used for an MMO.

An MMO in the Chrono universe would be truly epic if done right, but the scale and complexity of such a project would make it near impossible. I would love to see a Chrono game that deals with the no doubt countless other planets that were infected and manipulated by Lavos organisms.

An MMO in the Chrono universe would be truly epic if done right, but the scale and complexity of such a project would make it near impossible. I would love to see a Chrono game that deals with the no doubt countless other planets that were infected and manipulated by Lavos organisms.

That's a good idea, but the MMO genre kind of forces an "open-ended" approach to plots in the sense that they have to keep pushing out story content for the sake of giving people something to do. For this sort of thing I prefer the finality of an offline game.

Plus I don't want to have to pay a subscription to play a Chrono game. FF gets away with it since they're not interrelated.

You mean Front Mission Online? AFAIK it was only released in Japan as Play Online's only other real game (I don't count Tetra Master, sorry )


A Seiken Densetsu MMO would be awesome, if done right. But FFXI already has a lot of elements taken from it like the elemental weekdays and corresponding elemental Gods.

I'm talking about a HD redux of their most successfull MMO project. Not an alternative universe with it's own history and having to start all over from scratch. It's a lot of work, sure. But a man can dream...

Yeah, the problem was NOT that SE worked on XI-HD. The problem was that they decided to go with a new half-assed MMOG instead half way through the process.

But I lulz'd too when I read the title. Unless they go with Deus Ex online or something crazy like that I really have no idea what IP other than FF (VII and VIII are probably the most suitable) could they possible use that would be appealing enough to people already burned by XIV and it's bad rep.

And the last time they sat down to do that was just before the release of WotG and upgrade the windows client to DX9 and they said to themselves 'hell we're doing all this work, why don't we make a new game instead.' Hence change the name of the races, change the parts of the zones they had already recreated around and you got FFXIV.
