Phantasy Star Online 2 Gameplay Video and Screenshots - PSO-World.com

When I started playing FFXI back in NA release, I remember a lot of my friends came from PSO and PSOv2(?) ...I'm not sure there's any of you guys left out there, but I saw this about 10 minutes and I'm stoked...even if it might just be a rehashed PSO with better graphics!

It wont be a rehashed PSO, It also, from what I understand wont be a direct sequel to PSO.

The story for PSO2 seems to take place a bit after PSP2 Infinity, so it is really the next story arc of the PSU series.

The graphics look clean, but the character models appear to have more resolution than the environments. I enjoyed the original PSOs, but I hope they can take the sequel to the HNL.

I'm hoping they keep the level of customization in appearances from PSU, but otherwise I preferred the more rigid class system of the PSO games and I hope they stick with those. The idea they're adding third person shooter elements is also somewhat encouraging to someone that skews to the ranger class, because even with the improvements in PSU there were still a few things that could have been done better for rangers.

They could also stand to make DW guns feel less weak.

In fact, I kinda wish any gunner/ranger class felt as cathartic as Laguna does in Dissidia Duodecim.

          here's another source, mew!

Phantasy Star Online 2 -- First Video Footage

Very amazing they added jumping and smoother controls and seems like custom combos too. That really looks revolutionary for PSO having air combos and being able to just jump on a dropship wreckage and shoot from there.

Being a PSO vet, I have to say that video made me nostalgia and made me excited. The 3rd person view for ranged looks MUCH better than that clunky mess of a first person view for PSU. Hope to see more soon!

Yeah, the ranged class is looking just about where I want to be in terms of shooting.

I just hope the fix the weapon balance this time out.

It looks badass, and I'm sick of all the games I play online

I hope it makes it to the US in reasonable time; I've imported PSO games in the past...but I'm not sure how that will go with this one, I might try anyway. The US servers tend to always be screwed in terms of events and patching...and the thought about Sega doing global servers is unlikely given how PSU turned out.

                    Re: Phantasy Star Online 2

Sega of America has a terrible track record when it comes to turnaround times on localization. I mean, unless they started taking lessons from SE, Atlus, Xseed or someone else there's no way in hell they'll get this out in the west without taking a year after the Japanese release.

Which is pretty sad considering how little value there is in the story. We're probably not going to see Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity at all. I don't think we even know when VC3 is coming out for PSP. SOA is just that slow. Took em a year to get Yakuza 4 done.

I would love to try a Phantasy Star Online game... But is it just me, or does Sega just seem to stop supporting them after about a year or two? I've heard about so many other Phantasy Star games that just seemed dead right at launch.

                      Only thing I'm worried about.

No what happens Phantasy Star (and Monster Hunter I might add) seem to get the shaft over here in the states. PSO: Blue Burst for PC was shut down in the states on 3/31/08 but the Japanese servers stayed up till 12/27/10, and that was only because the focus was being moved to PSU and PSP....... Same thing happened to PSU PC/PS2 servers where shut down in US, and are still going in Japan, only reason 360 servers are still up, is because the JP have to play with everyone else.

I love Phantasy Star, and I am sure I will love/play PSO2...but if Sega is still the same, I might not be playing for long -.-

Looking forward to this too being a PSO vet myself (since DC v1). Really liking some of the new content like aerial combat, jumping and custom combos. Not getting my hopes up for an early release over in the UK!

that is an old video I think, and does not really show character creation all that much, hell alpha starts in August, so I am sure (like in FFXIV) the creation tool we see then wont be the end version.
