"We're withholding content that should be in the game and we didn't bug check it, but we're doing both because we don't like capitalism when it works against us" is about the most evil. On-disc DLC is still a douchebag thing to do, but its not exactly the newest of trends and its one that's dead to everyone but Namco-Bandai.

Digging this back up because apparently MML3 is now canceled.

Part of this process includes an assessment of whether the title will go into full production, and is based on a number of criteria with input from different sectors of the company.

Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely.

We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans.

We thank you all so much for your extended support of this title and this community, and we hope that you will continue to support the Mega Man franchise as well as other Capcom games.
          Smooth move there, Capcom.

          P.S. Saw this coming.

Re: Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype coming to 3DS' eShop

Capcom: Y 3DS no sell enough? BRB cancelling 3DS games people want.

I figured this would happen the moment Inafune left for... whatever greener pastures Compile Heart was offering.

Truth is Capcom just has no patience. 3DS does have a 4 million + strong userbase and that's likely only to grow by leaps and bounds from August onward. Capcom has swiftly gone from paragons of what can be done with the 3DS (SSFIV3D) to questionable (RE: Mercs 3D) and WTF (paid demo/cancelling MML3).

Thankfully, Ace Attorney VS. Professor Layton (or whatever its called) and RE: Revelations are still happening. Of course, is it really surprising an RE game is going forward?

Asura's Wrath and Dragon's Dogma better be damn good. I'm interested in DD, but it looks to be competing with the likes of Dark Souls and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the kind of game it is. Dark Souls has the cult following and hype that comes with that. Skyrim just has pretty much everything going for it as far as console and PC RPGs go.

Yeah I know, there's a shock coming from me. I said something nice about Bethesda.

All that aside, I think Capcom will be kicking themselves over this later, because from late August onward, 3DS seems to be wanting to eat a lot of cash in my wallet. And November is a monster even without considering handhelds.

... I think I'm gonna start paying off some of those games sooner rather than later.

You mean not enough people bought the paid demo and based on MML 1 and 2 's sales records, they said fuck it.

DIAF Capcom, I fucking hate you so much.

The paid demo never happened, Mal. MML3 Prototype was shelved, too.

But they're putting up Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge on the eShop soon! That must count for something, right?

                    Right?

That's probably what gets me the most. Couldn't they have at least stuck with it 'til Prototype even if they had already made up their minds to scrap it? Jesus fuck, this is way more spiteful than the train wrecks that were Mega Man X6, X7 and X8 put together.

Not sure how, since Valve would rather make one really good sequel (TF2, L4D2, Portal 2) than rush 3 or 4 of them out the gates, and actually listens to their customers (or at least tries to reason with them, since their customers can be pretty stupid sometimes.)

Re: Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype coming to 3DS' eShop

I think the larger concern isn't so much for MML3 (which while a cult favorite amongst fans, isn't exactly a system-seller), so much as this cancellation is showcasing how anemic the software lineup for the 3DS really is. If there were a lot of actually good non-remake games on the platform, most people would be like "Man that's disappointing but at least I can play these other games". Of course Nintendo will get around (eventually) to releasing a Pokemon game on the 3DS and that may turn things around, but I'm honestly surprised that they didn't pull a Twilight Princess and make Pokemon Black/White a 3DS game.

MML3 and Assassin's Creed: Lost Legacy getting dropped aren't a good sign of things to come, and while I understand games get canned all the time for a variety of reasons, it especially hurts the 3DS when its existing library is so deficient in new content. It can't afford to lose too many of these titles, because while they're individually not impactful, one always has to wonder just how antsy 3rd parties like Capcom and Ubisoft are about the 3DS given its somewhat lackluster start and uncertain future. If too many of the major 3rd parties back off of the 3DS for too long, Nintendo may have a big problem on their hands unless the PS Vita stalls similarly or the 3DS has a blockbuster holiday (both of which are still very possible).

I think its more to the end that gamers have just become so spoiled and this generation has run so long they've forgotten just about every system in the history of gaming has had a slow start.

PS3 and PSP especially, though PS2 came around about ten months after launch those other two didn't hit their stride for years. Those platforms survived tepid periods that would have killed other systems.

Wii didn't have much at launch aside from Wii Sports and Zelda. Easy to forget to an extent because, hey, Zelda. Even if it was a GC port with bloomlighting and widescreen. 360's weak launch at least had Live behind it, even if that wasn't saying a lot at the time.

People forget this stuff once the good stuff starts flowing. I can remember the time between PS2 launch and August rather well. August 2001 was when the dam finally broke. Before Ico and Devil May Cry hit the scene, you just had Onimusha, Red Faction, GT3 and Zone of the Enders were the biggest things. There was Shadows of Destiny, too, easily forgotten.

And Unison, which should be forgotten, but I was stupid enough to buy it at the time because I was desperate for anything.

I honestly spent more time catching up on PSX games, playing Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast and enjoying the last of the N64 during that time than I actually played my PS2.

I assure you, once the game start rolling out from late August onward, people will forget there was ever a slow period with 3DS. All this complaining seems valid because we can blog and vlog and blow shit out of proportion in ways we never could before other systems launched.
