Re: Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype coming to 3DS' eShop
Except Blizzard maintains their rights to do as they please, and put out products I actually care about & enjoy, unlike a certain FPS series I could name.
That sounds accurate. However, the stupid part of this story is that, from what anyone on the outside can tell, if the MML3 prototype doesn't sell well enough (whatever THAT means to Capcom), they won't get the green light to continue development and the whole project will get cancelled.
Personally, I think the whole situation is a big steaming pile. Not that I personally care much about MML3; I didn't much like the first two games to begin with. But this idea of forcing customers to pay to prototype your game before you actually go in and develop it? That's totally beyond the pale, as far as I'm concerned. Giving your development team this sort of ultimatum is severe douchbaggery, and it shows a shocking lack of respect for their fanbase.
And sure you're "done" with Capcom. Just like Activision, right?.
I think Capcom can "occasionally" be OK (MvC3 turned out reasonably well, all things considered), but that doesn't mean I approve of this situation in the slightest.
As for Activision, they can go fly a kite. Much as I love Blizzard, I've been boycotting Activision products for the past year and a half. Not buying Starcraft II hurt, and not buying Diablo III will hurt more if I'm still boycotting by that time, but for now, their levels of fail greatly exceed anything Capcom is doing.

Well, I'm not saying the situation isn't shitty, Capcom wants to spin this as if its like the prologue to Dead Rising 2 - where certain things unlock if you have Prototype that you otherwise wouldn't have - but yeah, the whole "buy Prototype or we don't make it" is pretty lame.
That aside, Capcom has really come out strong on DS and 3DS thus far. Okamiden a couple months back, Super Street Fighter IV 3D at launch for 3DS with all the trimmings, RE: Mercenaries this month and RE: Revelations, Street Fighter X Tekken and Professor Layton vs. Ace Attourneyfor 3DS as well?
I can't really say no to any of that. I have to admit I care more for Capcom's other IPs more than Mega Man (OK, maybe not Dino Crisis), even if they are playing this kinda shitty. I'd rather have another Viewtiful Joe game, personally.

Well, that was all more directed at Mal's inconsistent behavior with Activision. Blizzard is part of them and Activision is only getting more sleazy. I mean, COD Elite - really? You're gonna start charging monthly fees for the best-selliing franchise in the world.
Bad enough they'll release MW3 to every platform without making sure each version works. PS3, Wii and PC versions of Black Ops were pretty terrible. They abandoned Guitar and DJ Hero right after releasing new iterations and all kinds of shit this last year.
Then they tell Blizzard to piecemeal the hell out of SC2 and likely Diablo III.
Those two have more in their respective genres these days, though.. I'm more interested in Torchlight II and PSO2 than Diablo III.
Goldeneye was my first and last Activision-related purchase and I really only got it because I knew Nintendo funding it meant they'd at least make sure it was polished and reasonably balanced. Would have been better if they left the CoD perks, ironsights and the insipid, stupid level grind out of it, though.
EA I've stuck to boycotting entirely. I made an exception for Henry Hatsworth in there "new leaf" phase, but now members of the Hatsworth team formed Dreamrift and gets published by Majesco.
EA's just gotten worse and worse. Cutting content, implementing online passes, making exclusive networks for DLC when XBLA, PSN and Steam should suffice - its all just retarded shit to me. I want no part o it. Since they want to shame me out of buying used, I'll only buy their games used now if I buy them at all.
I certainly have no intention of paying out to Activision and EA when I can be treated better elsewhere. Why pay out for CoD Elite when everything they're doing I could get from Bungie and MS for free?
The only thing I'd really ever want from EA was FIFA games, but I'd prefer them handheld and the dumbasses can't be bothered to implement online on 3DS. Guess I'll look into Winning Eleven.

This. I don't care if it's 50 cents, the very notion is deplorable and I'm just sick of Capcom's gouging & half-assing projects in general.

If there were any way around it, I'd do it. But sadly I can't get my SC & Diablo fix without giving Activision more money. I take solace in the fact though, that supporting Blizzard = quality games. As far as the CoD studios and now Bungie go on other than, they can shove their collective heads up Kotick's ass.

Oh and the irony of it all? They're charging for what Bungie did for Halo FOR FREE, and now Bungie's part of Activision so... ugh. Well, they have a contract anyway, I don't think they're owned by them.

To which other games are you referring. MS and Sony encourage the "gouging," technically speaking. Steam just let's other companies do that, but Valve doesn't seem to participate in it themselves.
Capcom put all the alternate costumes in SSFIV3D by default and Tecmo-Koei is giving out free DLC levels/costumes for SWC and DoA:D. So if 3DS is any indication of what Nintendo has planned for Project Cafe, developers won't be engaging in these behaviors on that platform.
And it that turns out to be the case, its going to be interesting to watch MS and Sony explain why pre-order bonus, "Day One" DLC and such are better for gamers. Especially so if that DLC downloads automatcially the console - which Sony wants you to pay for Playstation Plus to do. 3DS does it for free new.
If there were any way around it, I'd do it.
Support Runic Games instead. They're the guys that did Diablo II and are no longer part of Activision or Blizzard.
Yet another reason to continue my boycott of Activision.
Icemage
It's actually not that bad. It's more of a luxury than charging for something we used to get for free. Besides, I'm sure most of the exclusive information will be posted on wikis.
I think Mann Co. has a bridge in Australia they'd like to offer you . . .
You're not seriously comparing withheld "day one DLC" content and online pass douchiness to fan-generated content that Valve lets said fans make some scratch of their own from, are you?
You know, the same Valve that, if you make a really, really, awesome mod to one of their games, might give you a job? The same valve that often puts DLC proceeds up for charity and has consistently great sales on Steam.
Portal 2 and the Left 4 Dead games - to my knowledge - don't have paid DLC at all.

Valve is actually forced to charge money for their DLC on Xbox Live by Microsoft. I wouldn't count that against them, but it's worth mentioning. I'm not sure how much they actually have on the Live Marketplace, but that was one of their gripes with Xbox Live DLC.

Well, in my view MS started the whole mess with paid DLC in the first place.
The problem is when Oblivion's horse armor and Capcom's paid costumes actually ended up working, it only got worse from there.
I wish people would follow the DLC model Rockstar has. I know they did that Vice Case pre-order stuff for LA Noire, but I'd bet we see it included with any expansion or future version of the game, along with a retail disc version akin to what was done with RDR and GTAIV. And those were even made to function as stand-alone games.
