mmm interesting, but yeah seems like way to many rumors right now, but a HD Nintendo system, that is backwards compatible with GC and WII, would be sweet

That's all good but you won't be able to play most of the flagship games for those respective console system on your PC (not legally, anyway) I don't mean the older stuff, just the current stuff (i.e., PS3)

Seriously, Nintendo just came out with new hardware with the 3DS, which does admittedly have some evolution from the Wii in it, but I doubt Nintendo would make a console just for the sake of it being in HD. I've never understood the HD enthusiasts.



Nintendo always goes about things differently, they don't march to the drum of Sony and MS, but to the beat of their own. I expect them to do something a bit more than just go HD. I remember them talking about a 3D-capable console which PS3 and and 360 are not. PS3 has 3D games, but its very much not designed from the ground up for the creation of 3D games.

I don't expect a new hardware announcement this year. Pretty sure Nintendo wants 3DS to shine for a bit, especially post-E3.

Its seriously not that impressive.

You know why? For one, it wasn't that big of a leap over PC monitors before it and secondly its now the standard. There is no special class for something when its the only class that exists. Its just a TV and you're just jazzed to have your purchase of it justified somehow.

I've had an HDTV for almost a year and the only thing that ever visually dazzled me on it was something presented in 480p.

But then, maybe that's because Vanillaware knows what colors are and puts them in games like Muramasa: The Demon Blade.

Maybe that comes as a surprise, to you, but most HDTVs are still too expensive for most people. Compare SD to HD and tell me it's not amazing.

If my HD set died today, I'd just go into my closet and pull out the SD one and keep going. To me, the big loss would just be aspect ratio, not sharpness or resolution.

I have not and never will be a graphics whore. Its not porn for me, just a means to an end.

Yes and no. I agree that it's not a great technological feat - like you said, PC monitors. On the other hand...

Thinks look much, much nicer at resolutions larger than 640 x 480. It's not hard to see why. 720p has 3 times the amount of pixels to work with, 1080p has 6.75 times the pixels. Things are going to have less jaggies with more pixels, and 480p definitely gets jaggies. It's the one thing that holds the Wii back in the graphics department, because the polygon count on the 3D models and the amount of detail in the textures is just fine. Run a good Wii game on an emulator at the monitor's native resolution and you'll see it looks much, much better.

Plus there's the fact that 480 on a 1080p screen looks like ass when you blow it up to that size and start blending pixels to get them to fit, and there's also the whole lag issue.

I guess what I'm getting at is that this new console doesn't necessarily have to achieve PS3/XBox 360 graphics (unless Nintendo wants to take back their position on HD games being too expensive to produce.) Just the ability to go up to 1080p would be an improvement.

Finally Nintendo joins the modern age! To be honest I'm mostly concerned about their online plans. Not worried at all about specs at this point, because that stuff doesn't matter if people can't easily get online and play against each other. Why Nintendo has continually refused to get a good online structure going is beyond me.

I do hope Nintendo makes their next console HD, but I don't expect any word of the next batch of consoles until E3 2012 at the earliest.

Plus there's the fact that 480 on a 1080p screen looks like ass when you blow it up to that size and start blending pixels to get them to fit, and there's also the whole lag issue.

One of the big reasons I uninstalled my PS2 copy of FFXI off my PS3. Not sure why but it's much blurrier than my other PS2 and even some of my PS1 games.
