April Fools: Blizzard nails it, as always | Joystiq

For like, the hundredth year running, Blizzard has kicked off this most dishonest of days with an overwhelming salvo of fake additions to its current and pending titles. Take, for instance, the Diablo 3 "Horadic Cube" app, which possesses the power to combine your phone's applications into super applications. Or how about the new Kinect functionality for StarCraft 2? Not since Dance Central: The Krump Imperative have we seen such feverish flailing.

The best of the bunch is clearly the World of Warcraft update, which not only adds a new, pitch-black dungeon, but also a "Dungeon Helper" named Crabby, who assists you in navigating the game's instances. Go get acquainted with your new crustacean cohort -- but we wouldn't suggest letting Clippy find out. That dude's jealous as all get-out.

They cracked me up. Sad thing is, the Rogues changes would genuinely buff the class instea dof nerfing it again like Blizzard always do.

This is my favourite:
# Players in capital cities will receive a 2-hour debuff “Homebody” that increases damage taken and reduces damage and healing given by 10% for every 10 minutes they’re within city limits. We hope this encourages something.

The rouge portion made me giggle. I think some of the rogue players took it too serious and were really hurt over the insults.

Rogue "Changes"

Due to continual misspellings of the “rogue” class, we have officially changed the name to the easier to type “rouge.”

Pick Pocket now works on friendly players, bankers and auctioneer NPCs.

Vanish now has an additional 5% chance to fail for no discernable reason.

Rouges equipping helms that resemble eye patches now suffer a 2% hit penalty from lack of depth perception.

All archways, portals, portholes, and doorways now contain locked doors which require a rouge’s Pick Lock skill to open.

Sleight of Hand now allows rouges to roll a perfect 100 on boss drops.

Cheap Shot has a new more anatomically appropriate animation.

Rouges are now required to pick up all of their blades after casting Fan of Knives before it can be used again.

Rouges may now cast Stealth while Stealthed, entering the state of Double Stealth, which is not only stealthier than Stealth, but also causes the word stealth to cease to make sense to your brain. Stealth.

The "Cheap Shot" change on those joke notes amused me because in Rift, the "Foul Play" ability in the Assassin tree actually does have a low blow animation.

It was a response to a thread where people complained about how "Rift got it". So I must imagine Blizzard wanted to honor the wishes of those few. Har

The best part about that pitch black dungeon is all the people saying they actually want Blizzard to make it. These people must never PUG anything.

Blizz listens to their players though so they may just make it for real.

A Pitch Black dungeon would be fun if done right. I'd imagine there would have to be some mechanic to temporarily light up the area around the party or only the area around the party is lit up or something.

Kick didn't have the same level of detail and I think I remember when I saw kick, I was like, is that it? I thought about a Jet Li kick, not something resembling a factory built roundhouse (not even a Chuck Norris one at that)

IMO, this still isn't as good as last year, with the Equipment Potency EquivalencE Number (yes, they capitalized it like that). But it's a hard act to follow. XD

A dungeon where darkness is an actual mechanic, and not just "you need to turn up your gamma to play this game, just like every other game in the last 10 years", might be interesting. And Twilight Grove has been sadly empty since cata took away the dragon that used to hang out there -- I've been there a couple times for archaeology and there's just NOTHING.
