Hurray! ^.^
This is really the best news since the announcement of Resident Evil Outbreak File 2 back then.
Well we have yet to see what the gameplay is really like, and of course we have to see if it reaches the level of depth, quality and unrivaled survival horror experience of Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2 ( the best games in Resident Evil / survival horror history!)
but it certainly sounds to come closer to those masterpieces than all the previous and upcoming announced RE games combined!
* sight, sound and smell detection systems sound like stealth may be possible and could be necessary to increase chances of survival (zombies might be faster, harder to kill and more dangerous than before.)
* the 4 main characters names seem to hint that they might belong to U.B.C.S. (Arnold, etc.) or Umbrella Secret Service (HUNK, Luke, Rodrigez, etc.)
*Various characters from the series present might hint at the possibly of unlocking them as playables (even if it's just a skin.) and maybe more playable characters too (Outbreak games are known to have dozens of interesting playable characters with different occupations.)
* XP for abilities and weapons will definitely enhance replay value and rewarding experiences!
* 4 player co-op could bring back deep the teamwork, unpredictable situations and breathtaking survival moments we had in Outbreak series!
One thing I think they should get right (besides moving and shooting, which I'm sure it's there.) ,
is have the maps/locations/scenarios designed as detailed and non-linear like the best Outbreak levels,
with lots of things to discover, a bit of randomness where some things are found or enemies may be encountered, and lots of ways to explore and try to find the boss/escape path out of the level.
There is sooo much awesome potential in this, perhaps in some ways even more potential than the golden age of the Outbreak series! ^_^
But remember, just as Resident Evil Outbreak innovated how survival horror can be experienced, so will Operation Raccoon City. So we shouldn't see it as a "Outbreak 3", but as a revolutionary new way to enjoy the Resident Evil universe.
It will have its own fans, of course it won't be to everyone's tastes but I'm sure more and more will agree it's far better than anything RE4 and RE5 tossed our way, mew. This is a unique, open minded and creative perspective to survival horror in Resident Evil, and the zombies and B.O.W.s are still there in full force.
And the first person/third person shooter approach isn't a bad thing. It's either that or back to tank controls or stiff RE4/RE5 aiming/attacking/pivot controls. Shooter controls allows more immersive and realistic control.

Titled as Resident Evil: Racoon City, as rumoured beforehand, the game ses you on opposite sides of the spectrum as members of the Umbrella Security Services Squad rather than BSAA.
Unlike the latter, where you just take out zombies, gunning for Umbrella is all about destroying evidence and killing T-Virus survivors from the 1998 Racoon City outbreak.
There are two other factions to make a “three corner conflict†according to Capcom: US spec ops and bio-organic monsters created by Umbrella.
Your team is made up of four members: Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre. Depending on who you pick to play as, its goals and aims will vary.
The magazine adds that “you’ll be facing Umbrella-created horrors in between skirmishes†with each faction. It also says the game will allow you to “change the history of Resident Evil,†with many characters from the series making appearances. You’ll also be allowed to kill them.
The reports says that it’ll be coming to 360 and PS3 later this fall."
This is great news! There never was a Resident Evil that centered on U.S.S. operations in Raccoon City (well I assume U.S.S. and U.S.S.S. are both the same thing.). Destroying evidence and killing T-Virus survivors while dealing wtih US Spec Ops and B.O.W.s, with zombies on top of all that, will lead towards a survival horror experience unlike anything before, mew!
Now I wonder if it will be bigger, longer, harder, and much more open enviornments than L4D series?
