You mean March of the Black Queen? %99 sure I saw a copy just earlier today. Don't remember it being particularly expensive. If you're interested, PM me.

I saw a place with StarFox for 105 and caved.

You're thinking of Ogre Battle VII: Tactics Ogre.

A remake of that was released just last month for PSP called Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Its quite honestly one of the finest remakes I've ever seen with an expanded scenario, additional alternate paths and a sort of New Game Plus that lets you rewind to explore other branches with your leveled units.

You can even turn back the clock on some turns with the Chariot Arcana feature. Additionally, similar to Valkyria Chronicles, job classes level up together rather than individually by unit, so you're never totally hosed when someone dies, just hire a unit to replace them. All hired units have three lives as well.

And of course, several new job classes

@Feba - you're thinking of Ogre Battle 64: March of the Black Queen, that's available on Wii Virtual Console

Lufia II is 10x better then the first, but story wise it is a prequel.

Yeah, Lufia 2 is all about Maxim and the lead up to the first battle with the Sinistrals (hence the title).

The difference between the two games is like night and day, 2 is SO much better it's not funny. It was one of (if not the) first RPG to introduce a wide variety of unique dungeon tools. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain Zelda and a few other series drew inspiration from Lufia 2.

Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

^ This was for SFC/SNES, ported to Sega Saturn/PSX. It's an LE on the SNES however and I remember them going for $150+ on Ebay at the time. My brother has (had?) one of these. I just hope he wasn't stupid to sell it.

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen is on the Virtual Console. I got the titles switched up, Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber was the N64 one, also on VC.

Considering what its going for, I'd side with the $8 Wii VC version

Actually, if the SFC version is the normal price, and I go with cheap shipping, it would probably cost about the same to get the actual cartridge, if not slightly cheaper. Depends on how you feel about two month shipping and so on. Definitely easier to just go with the VC if you're in it for the game; used game store cart wouldn't have much collector's value unless you're one of those Gotta-Catch-Em-All types.

I was feeling a bit nostalgic for it but outside of that I don't have a real compeling reason to go out of my procuring an actual cart (Unless I stumble across one sold by an uninformed dealer - which will never happen with my crappy luck) TY though, it was worth an interesting research into the series.

                  @BBQ

I don't yet own a Wii but I'll keep that into consideration when I do. TYVM for the info.

I do wish the VC had a bit more games on it, but it is nice that something that niche still made the cut and that SE put it back out there. The updates to VC are painfully slow these days - largely due to licensing, source code changing hands, companies merging and all that, but when I do go shopping online in that VC area it can run the risk of turning me into a kid in a candy store.

The fact that I only have two SNES, three N64 games, a few NES, a couple WiiWare games and some others has taken some serious restraint on my part.

That's also why I'm scared to get a new computer over this old rickety one. Because I know I'd want Steam and there it might be worse for me because they actually have sales.

I have been tempted by that seductress once too many times and the main reason I uninstalled it. Steam is TOO good of a system and I think it was ingenious of them (in a financial sense) to put it up.

Actually, the VC is just an emulator, so it should be able to work fine off ROMs, assuming they aren't games which require modification (Like Wave Race, to remove things with lost copyrights) or additional hardware (like StarFox, and other games with additional hardware on the cartridge).

Some places do still go by corporate rules and regulations, others aren't so rigid.

For example, I'm sure there are plenty of roms for Devil Summoner on Sega Saturn at this point, but since there was never an English translation and the PSP version's source code was lost for the Japanese version at some point after doing the Japanese port to PSP, so its kinda hard for Atlus USA to go in there and do the sort of quality translation they'd do.

Sure, there are fan translations - but how good can it really be compared to what Atlus USA would do and why would they want someone else doing their jobs?

But like the licensing in Wave Race, there are other royalties and agreements going on. So regardless, its not like they can rip anything and just be done with it. Doesn't help that this also has to be done region-by-region as the licensing agreements are also affected by that. Then there's that whole PAL thing with Europe, but that's not so much an issue of they had the PAL version already.

Right, BBQ, doing a translation would qualify as modifying the game. For a simple (technically speaking) game that doesn't require content to be modified though, there's no reason one would need source code to release it on VC. As long as you have a copy of the rom, you should be good.

Keep in mind that "ROM" stands for "Read-only memory", as in the flash chip on the cartridge which holds the information required to play that game. Not "an illegal copy of a video game". I'm sure Nintendo held on to their Rom dumping tools from back when they required them to develop games; if not there are plenty of other options for ripping information out of a cartridge. If you want to put a game on VC, and there are no problems with the content, it shouldn't require anything more than that.
