Re: User criticizes Bioware, EA bans his access to Dragon Age 2

I gave up on EA after the C&C4 fiasco and the whole jumping through hoops to play single player for a game I paid for, so....

    All hail torrents!

Again, in EA's defense (or DICE rather? idk) at least people who buy Battlefield new get new maps for free (something that didn't used to be charged for in the first place but sign of the times I guess.)

And those that buy used are made to pay for that content, essentially negating the value of buying used.

See, THAT is the problem - EA doesn't sell games with value anymore, they instead remove the value and take an attitude that is hostile toward the consumer and retailer alike.

You know what they get as a reward for that?

People buying used more and pirating at higher rates.

DA:O Collector's Edition was practically an admission that their DLC and expansion model for the original release was a total failure. And since they think nothing of me other than a petty thief when I'm a legit consumer, why should I disappoint them?

I'll wait for that CE in the used bin.

Its already plummeting in price anyway. The CE was $40 two months after retail launch. By the time I pick up my PS3 this summer, it'll be like $9.99. I'll use my employee discount.

Yeah, I am loving this 1/3rd of the game we've been given. I can't wait to pay $130+ for the rest of the game!

Jesus Fucking Christ, what is with you people and expecting the exact same game as the original? It's a whole fucking game, but one revolving mostly around a single a race. Subsequent games will also be whole fucking games, but they'll revolve around different races.

If they are going to do that, then they should have gave the game a subtitle or something

Dragon Age 2: Human something...something, and advertised it as such.

They did, it's not called Dragon Age 2: Origins. Besides, they've said you wouldn't be able to pick your race since they start publicizing the game. If you didn't pick up on it back then, then you're an idiot.

I think it has a lot to do with them planning it originally as one game and saying that publicly at a Blizzcon before deciding to slice it up into different campaigns as expansions and announce that at a subsequent Blizzcon.

People seemed a bit ticked at the time about that.

Yes, things change. I guess that fact of life is beyond some people.

You'd think somebody who's willing to spend a grand and a half on a computer wouldn't be such a penny pincher when it comes to purchasing games to play on it. Apparently, the internets are full of geeks who value development processes that disregard prototyping and innovation.

So what? When you buy used the money only goes to the store, not the company/studio that made the game. $5 extra for the online pass or DLC isn't that bad. Sucks for people who don't want to buy it brand new but it's hardly evil.

Yeah because you know, it's really only a 3rd of a game despite having a longer campaign than all 3 original campaigns combined not to mention amazing new maps and a full-blown online multiplayer mode. Yeah, Blizzard's really just a bunch of lazy twats.

Get with the program. The other two games are going to be sold at $40 each which is fair for a full expansion with yet another 38+ missions as well as new MP maps and units. Or are you so arrogant as to think that much content should be provided free?

EA Retracts Game Ban For Forum Violation | Rock, Paper, Shotgun
He received an email from EA’s Senior Director of Customer Support, Boyd Beasley, explaining that his “inappropriate language” meant he had received a 72 hour ban from the BioWare Social Network, but that,

“Unfortunately, there was an error in the system that accidentally suspended your entire EA account. Immediately upon learning of the glitch, we have restored the entire account and apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused while accessing other areas of the EA service.”

So there you go then. A strange one indeed, after he was told by both EA’s live support, and the moderator who locked the thread discussing the matter (who declined to speak to us), the opposite. But good news for Arno, who can finally play the game he’s paid for.
To the derail, anyone who considers Wings of Liberty to not be a complete game clearly hasn't played it. I do think a lower price point for the second and third installments might be appropriate provided you own WoL, considering many assets are inevitably going to be reused, to say nothing of the engine itself.

They plan for each game to be sufficiently different from the others that each will feel unique. There are a lot of elements in Wings of Liberty that you couldn't reproduce in Heart of the Swarm. This is all apart from the actual in-game mechanics.

Certainly everything outside of the RTS context will be different, there will be new units and tile sets, and a new campaign of equal length. I'm not saying mark it down to an expansion pack, but I have to imagine the amount of recycled assets will be significant and the dev time for the product will obviously be much lower, so asking the same price may not be entirely fair. I support Blizzard and enjoy their products enough that I wouldn't feel cheated to pay full price, but I think a slightly lower price point would be a paragon move.

I was talking about Dragon Age 2, I think the conversation might have been mixed up some where, because I am not sure we are talking about the same games anymore......

Awesome!!!!1 So now instead of being able to replay games with different characters/races/scenarios you unlock by playing you'll have to buy the game again for each one of them (full price! ) with a slightly different experience.

I think we can indeed call this innovation and forward thinking!!!

People calling it gouging and half-assing releases for the sake of selling DLCs are clearly insane people who probably worship the devil and kill kittens! Amirite?
