  • MTV does 8-Bit Hero webseries, has no idea what they're doing

If you want to save a minute of your life, don't watch the video in this link.

Washed-Up Retro Heroes Star In Video Game Reunion | GameLife | Wired.com

More or less, MTV is doing a web series on "washed up" 8-bit heroes. Yes, we've all figured out by now that Princess Peach is a slut. Those Kooplings didn't come out of thin air.

Problem is, the characters they picked are all still active and successful today, so way to go MTV for really having your fingers on the pulse of gaming. This was just the trailer and I've seen far more brilliant things from College Humor.

If you want to watch something thoughtful and entertaining related to video games, here's Constructoid instead:

Could you at least try reading what I posted?

The MTV thing and the Constructoid thing are different things.

They may not be up to speed on gaming, but (for better or, likely, worse), they still seem to know a thing or two about the rest of pop culture. MTV made Jersey Shore and My Super Sweet 16 popular. Sad as that is, it's also pretty amazing.

            You're not helping

I have only seen pictures of the people from Jersey Shore and their faces seem to scream "I am trash, punch me."

I guess I just take issue with these characters being "washed up" when they seem to remain pretty relevant and popular today. MTV just being mildly connected to pop culture doesn't change the fact they've been out of touch with their central purpose for about the last two decades - playing music videos.

I imagine its hard to compete with Youtube and all that, but still. Its sad that they had to make a second channel and dedicated it to only playing music videos.

That's a lost cause and you know it. It's much more profitable to show Snooqie or whatever getting punched in the face.
