I have 2 RL friend who are in Anonymous and this divide has actually been going on for a long time. I find the whole thing a hilarious bit of karma even if I don't believe in it

No one is in Anonymous. 'Anonymous' is random unaffiliated groups of people do things under the name Anonymous. The Anonymous that does Chanology and the Anonymous that goes after Sony may not even have one person in common. There is no group called Anonymous you join.

It is anonymous, they are any one and they are no one.

So what? That wont stop Anonymous, in fact it will only make it stronger because it shows they can police themselves so to speak. So if one group goes too far the millions of others will be there to calm them down one way or the other.

You know, like it was back when "the people" had any sort of influence in the government and those in places of power were actually mindful of not going too far or risk their constituents taking things into their own hands instead of the being the sheep they have become in recent decades.

It's kind of the wrong analogy to make so I'll provide a better one.

What's happening with Anonymous would be no different than what would happen in organized crime. You'll have the OGs that tell you to stay away from the drug trade as they ply their traditional trade of security money, gambling and loan sharking. The new guys in the outfit are doing the whole drug trade, human trafficking, illegal arms deals and kidnapping for cash. You got the old guys saying you'll go to hell with the new guys telling them you're out of your league, too old for this and out of touch.
