Xperia Play = DOA for PSN users

You must repurchase PSN games for Xperia Play phone- Destructoid

So I was actually sort of interested in the Xperia Play since it played PSOne games. I've been wanting a smartphone so I have have some games to sneak into work, basically.

Xperia Play looked quite lovely and was coming to Verizon in April.

But it seems like even though it connects to PSN to download games, you can't download the PSX and PSP Miins you already have purchased on PSN, so you have to buy them AGAIN.

I thought the whole point of this Playstation Suite stuff was to be platform agnostic for Sony software like this on Sony branded-products.

If you have an iPad and and iPhone, you can play most, if not all games on both at no additional cost. 3DS will let you transfer your account from DSi. Steam lets you share an account on up to five PCs.

Oh well, I guess I'll wait to see what Verizon does with iPhone5 or what I can get Android on over there. Fuck this bullshit. I should have known Sony would fuck this up somehow.

Well, I'm not exactly attracted to the idea of "it does everything" with smartphones.

Example: James Bond used to have all these nifty little gadgets Q would make for him.

Now he just fucking has iPhone apps for all of it.

There's an app for tuning my guitar.
There's a calorie counting app.
Constant updates to Twitter and Facebook
It can be a cookbook.
You can watch movies on it
You can use the GPS to spy on your spouse/significant other, then pull up Google Maps to see the exactl place they're in

Just add a damn Swiss Army Knife to it, then. Its the only thing it doesn't have.

I just want something that takes phone calls and competently plays games.

You missed the point, and I disagree with yours. Why not buy a phone that can play games? Personally, I'd by a portable console that could make phone calls, because I certainly play more games than I talk to people over the phone.

Really, the Xperia Play had everything I could want, but being made to pay and download these games again - in an age where I would just import my games from a USB connection and have a network connection confirm that i already own and have paid for them - is beyond stupid.

Sony Ericcson makes the Xperia Play. Sony product. Playstation Suite was advertised to make Xperia part of the platform-agnostic goal they had for Suite.

Its like Sony takes the thing that made iPhone and Nintendo DS successful and totally ignores them - being able to access your old content. Your apps and games never have to be left behind with the new hardware.

NGP says nuts to UMD.
Xperia Play tells your previous PSN purchases to fuck off.

The recurring theme I'm getting here from PS3, NGP, and Xperia play is "Fuck you, buy the games again."

I expect Nintendo to remake something like Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That's just inevitable. Its not something they cut features from new hardware to make happen, though.
