I have a hard time seeing this as a "masterpiece." Bastardpiece, perhaps. Most likely far beneath Weird Al Yankovic, Robin Hood: Men in Tights or Airplane when it comes to parody. Or, on a gaming level, Parodious.

Hell, Deadpool from MvC3 just by himself is high class parody - spoofing the game, other games, players and comics. He fucking moonwalks when he's backing away. He welcomes Magneto to die and one of his supers is beating people up with the Super Meter. Beat that.
    - I had some objectivity with the music and text size but I played further than my first few hours preview and there are more and better tracks than I initially thought and the menu text is better and more readable than DC Universe Online's.

    - A lot more work and thought was put into this RPG than any of those parodies (and more hours worth of events) You yourself only have the surface to judge and base your "facts" from, which are materialized out of your ignorance.

This isn't the type of game you can just look at and interpret what it fully contains.
Also it's more than just a parody, it has some emotional and serious elements to the story too.
    And spell Parodius right.

-Deadpool or any character from a fighting game (one of the lowest ranking categories that lack deep storytelling and lacking greater purpose to all the fighting) can't be compared to a complete RPG like this. But I guess something simple like Deadpool in MVC3 can entertain and convince people (that are dumber than rocks) to purchase a $60 game that's more broken and has less variety than MVC2 (and one of the worst online experiences at launch:
    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/115/1150933p1.html )

But since you would bother to compare him to this, Deadpool's entire collection of parodies are nothing more than breadcrumbs compared to the worlds of great, funny and nostalgic moments in Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Well done having breakfast, time to play! It keeps getting better and better, mew!!!

Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia first 10 minutes!

I just completed it and got true ending (recruiting all the Goddesses make it almost feel like a new game.) Very emotional, especially with dozens upon dozens of cutscenes and character interaction you really care about everyone much more and there is some interesting plot twists. And great feeling after the credits, mew!

Of course it isn't for everyone. Some might find it tedious but it isn't nearly as tedious as getting everything in XIII. And the battles are actually fun and lots of ways to kick butt (even the shot elements have advanced effects depending on the Charge Shot level, there are so many great speech, visual and sound effects!)

Each character gets unique special attacks, the healing system is easy to understand and gets better as they learn more item skills, and it really is one of the best games I played and most loveable characters that keep saying fun and unexpected things in the most unexpected ways, mew!

The pacing is also really good, before and after the next scenario you are often rewarded with more cutscenes and great moments (and there is good character development and realizations later on too.)
The visuals are also very nice too, I never get bored of the transformations or the summons and it's a lot of fun. Overall, entirely worth it, mew!

Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia first 10 minutes!

I'm gonna revive this really dead thread because I had some issues with the "review" that was given here by J9.

First of all, didn't the lengthy NPC chat disturb you?

Okay, for the rest of you that didn't play this title yet, let me paint an analogy (my opinion of course, but I'm trying to be somewhat objective here without going into Super Saiyan Hyperbole Mode) You know how there are key parts in Ghost in the Shell where there's lengthy dialogue? Okay, those tend to be about a couple of minutes, usually involving Togusa, the Major or some of the other "serious intellectuals" character types. They reveal a bit more of the underlying plot and launch into a discussion on the societal, moral and ethical problems of their time/era/world.

Now, imagine these types of conversations with the following:

-Still images with slight movements centered around (so far only female) the breasts and the mouth and eyes. Yes, the breasts move while the characters are breathing with Green Heart's quaking.

-The length of these discussions can be anywhere from 5 minutes to as long as 20 minutes if you let the vocal clips play out (I read faster than the audio plays but I wanted to at least listen to the subpar voice acting - JAPANESE LANGUAGE TURNED ON - to give a realistic feel on the progression)

-While the tropes are appreciated, it was over the top to the point that they became an annoyance and didn't convey anything to the story at all. If you're the type to engross yourself in shallow conversations like the kind you find on MTV's Real World, then you'd be right at home.

Yes, this was the first half hour or so before I ejected the disc. The combat was horrible, slow and sometimes unresponsive, there were very little explanation to the newbie and the whole thing just reeked of an indie developed game. I'm going to force myself to play on in the hopes that it gets better, but I won't be surprised if it gets worse.

I beat the game and have to disagree with you, the combat was ok (not the greatest but not terrible) the key thing is, this game is defiantly not for everyone, it was for a small nitch group to be honest. I liked it, and can not wait for the second one. I loved the console wars theme and the video game references all over the place. I loved the ability to slightly customize the girls transformed states as well.

Give me a point of reference to compare to. How do you like this game to other JRPGs? The combat system, IMO, was horrendously UNDER EXPLAINED. Now, I don't know how you figured it out without seeking for information online or in a strategy guide, so fill me in on what you knew before playing this game. I went into this blind so that's my situation. If you were in the same situation, would your opinions about this game be different than it is now?

Recent JRPGs & RPGs that I am comparing this game to (either games that I played for the first time or for the umpteenth time in the past 12 months)

            -Radiata Stories
            -Xenosaga II & III
            -Final Fantasy X, XII, XIII
            -Atelier Totoori
            -Disgaea 1, 2, 3, 4
            -Star Ocean 3, 4
            -Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
            -Pokemon White, Black
            -Bastion
            -Rusty Hearts

Like I said, I'm willing to force myself to put in more time, maybe to see if it gets better, but there's really no "depth" unless the bulk of the mechanics is still "locked away" for some reason...

            Edit:

The RPGs I listed I'm basically comparing HN to the "intuitiveness factor" of the combat mechanics and UI. Basically, going blindly into this game, how long will it take for the average player (not a brand new game player) to figure things out enough so that they can play the game. In-game tutorials can also count, since HN did have that, but the in-game tutorial for HN was complete crap. I'm not sure if that part is to be blamed on NISA or if that's actually !f's fault (Idea Factory) Then again, if they're assuming that people playing this game are people that have previously played other games that they developed, then it's no surprise for the lack of tutorial and explanation.

I honestly went in blind, and picked up on the battle system pretty easily, *shrugs*

Your vague responses and lack of details puzzles me and makes me wonder if you even remember your first time playing this...

Well this is the first dungeon in a nut shell.

-Mash combos together with no idea what each should do and how they work

-Certain "skills" can actually heal the monster (how?) Again, there's no warning or indication that this could happen

-Healing ... WHAT.THE.FUCK. It works ONLY ONCE while defending and then you need to put points to your training to make another item to heal. Of the two characters in your first party, only one can heal and that person could only heal herself.

I was able to squeak by because the boss in the end decided to "stop" attacking me with both characters in the red. Of course, they'd do that, because it's the first dungeon. But that's also an indication of a FLAWED design. Most RPGs I've played, you actually can die and lose in your intro fights (if you're completely clueless to video gaming in general or never played video games ever)

Anyway, comparing this to Atelier Totoori, a game NISA also publishes that Gust developed (Gust, !f, NIS, Heart Compile collaborated on HN and Sega published this in Japan, but it was Heart Compile/!f that had to put it together) HN literally falls flat. Anyway, I'm looking for another player that picked up HN to contribute his/her experience and at least give me some details regarding what they did and whether or not the depth of the strategy involved goes beyond combo mashing for the sake of combo mashing.

I don't know what else you want from me, I honestly can not explain it, I picked up the game, started playing it, and beat it, no real problems, I had no difficulty with the battle system or anything...... I admit that it was a bit rough around the edges, but I got through fine -.-

I just chalk this up to a game that is not for you. This game was even outlandishly pervy even for me, and that says something ;p

Re: Hyperdimension Neptunia first 10 minutes!

HN combat is no more combo mashing than Chrono Cross or Xenogears, and it still is a fun and stress free battle system.

No problems with healing and healing becomes easier as they get more healing skills and you give them decent % they are triggered, mew.

Anyways the sequel includes normal healing, so people should relax, mew. But I feel the sound and special effects and cinematic attacks are better done in HN1.

though Mk2 is better at just about everything else. (though they nerfed the transformation rules and shortened the cinematic, which makes me miffed.)

oh and they are adding more special DLC boosts

That doesn't make it a good thing. In Xenogears, when it came down to it I never had a reason to save my AP for a long combo. I seemed to do the same amount of damage spreading it over multiple turns or saving it up for one big chain, and I never ran into a boss that encouraged me to bide my time. Also, I could never get Fei's nukes to do more damage than his normal attacks, so they defeated their own purpose. In the end it was all looks and no substance. By the end of the game everyone's fighting on Gears all the time anyways.

I think those dubs would make anyone sick. To be fair though, the theme song wasn't doing the trailer any favors either.
