  • Radiant Historia

I was going to do some introduction for the game, but this video just explains the whole thing very well. This is a new RPG from the people that brought you Radatia Stories on PS2 and takes a unique look at the time travel concept.

It comes out Feb. 22nd for the Nintendo DS with a bonus CD with piano music based upon the game soundtrack.

Yoko Shimomura piano CD? That's bad-ass.

Game looks neat. I'll be looking out for it.

Just for reference, in case other's don't know or just don't realize they may know her work:

Yoko Shimomura - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

      She has done music for:

      Super Mario RPG
      Street Fighter II
      Final Fight
      Breath of Fire
      Parasite Eve
      Kingdom Hearts series
      Mario and Luigi series
      Luminous Arc 2

And her work will also be featured in Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

I think I can take her in Uematsu's stead.

Now now, let's not exagerate too much.

Although I'll definitely pay more attention to her work in Versus from now on.

Street Fighter II's tracks are pretty iconic stuff and are still used for Street Fighter IV. They wouldn't keep those tracks around if they weren't memorable. Guile, Ryu, Ken, Dhalsim, E. Honda and Chun Li's themes all come to mind with great ease.

Kingdom Hearts has a nice range of moving tracks, its not like Utada just carries the whole thing on her two songs. Don't get me wrong, she's great, but she and SE could be bothered to do something more than rehash one of the two songs for each game.

I think the discography speaks for itself, really.

Also, if you're really wanting Uematsu, you should be checking out the JP release of The Last Story.

Now that you mention it I was actually thinking about buying the Last Story OST, since I wont be playing the game.

              Re: Radiant Historia

Turns out the team making this game isn't just comprised of the guys that made Radatia Stories, but also Persona 3, so yeah, now I'm certainly not missing this one.

                Too bad is Wii onry.

See? Third party exclusivity needs to go away.

I was talking about Radiant Historia. You know that whole Radatia Stories/Persona 3 team mention?

Also, Nintendo worked closely with Mistwalker on The Last Story. The Last Story can't go to another console that isn't the Wii kinda like you're never going to see Demon's Souls on a console that isn't PS3 (that would be hard considering SCEJ worked on it with From Software).

Nah I was talking about Radiant too, just got the systems/games mixed up. Still, unless the 3DS is region free I probably wont play it.

Atlus USA is having a vote on the art for the art of the CD and its sleeve.

                      :::: Atlus.com ::::

                      I'm kinda partial to B.

Disk A with a B-like arrangement for the sleeve.

Not voting since I wont be buying the game though.

                            Re: Radiant Historia

Picked it up and just started playing. I haven't gotten into the time travel bits just yet, but the combat is already immensely fun. You more or less fight enemies that come at your team from 3x3 grid,

You want to push them all into the same space just long enough to chain attacks on them, the further back you push and the more damage you chain together, the more EXP you'll get. This is accomplished two ways - special attacks that push enemies back or to the left or right and using "Change" to alter whose turn it is. How many turns you can manipulate depends on how many turns your party has before an enemy attacks

Think of it like FFX's CTB system where you could see who was going to go next, but you could basically trade on character's turn so another go again or push an enemy's attack sooner so you can have a whole string of attacks. Of course pushing the enemy to attack without pushing them further into the backline means they get to do more damage with you, so you can't get too overzealous with this approach.

The CD only has five songs on it, but that's hardly surprising as Shimomura is a bigger deal and these are studio piano selections rather that straight game stuff. They in-game music is much more reminicent of the sorts of music you'd hear in Kingdom Hearts, in fact, I keep expecting Heartless to show up. because the music sounds like stuff that would play when they were near.

And it does feel very much like something that would fit right alongside Zelda or Chrono Trigger from the SNES days, save for that its not attempting to emulate either experience - it simply shares the sort of quality and presentation those games enjoyed.

                            Good stuff all around.
