They need to try and recoup their losses from 13 and 14 so I'm guessing that has something to do with the game being pushed out ahead of the usual half a decade timeline.

FFXIII is a sales success. About 6 million sold. They will not rush FFXIII-2 project, they are not working from scratch so they save a lot of time in that area to focus on the story and stuff instead of inventing new graphics.

Also in interviews, they said future Final Fantasies will no longer take as long as it took to finish FFXII and FFXIII. They said its too costly to take so much time developing them for too long, so they won't be so ambitious with graphics and technology from now on.

As for the gameplay and story, we will have to wait and see, but I'm sure it will deserve a mew or three.

In what fantasy land was FFXIII a commercial failure?

Even when we shave off retail profits and the break even point, something tells me this was a fiscal success.

That and they launched Kingdom Hearts Re:coded against Pokemon Black/White in Japan- that was just stupid. Anything can get steamrolled by Pokemon for a bit.

Plus Lord of Arcana didn't really stand up well against God Eater, Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. It had some good ideas, but a piss-poor ad campaign and those three other games took a lot of market share for the genre it was in.

If you ask me, launching Dissidia Duodecim five days ahead of the 3DS in the US is also rather foolish. I mean, sure, I care about that game, but I'm going to have a portable Super Street Fighter IV with online support just days later.

They pushed by Deus Ex to god knows when because they know its not going to save them from a bad fiscal report for 2010, so now they're pushing it back so it looks nice for next year. I guess I can understand that, I wouldn't want shareholders misunderstanding that one just because FFXIV and others didn't do as well as they could have and tacking the blame an western studio that hand nothing to do with any of it..

Wait, Wikipedia says winter 2012? I thought it was winter 2011... now I'm sad. That's almost 2 years away, although it makes more sense than a 2011 release.

Remember - If you do research, Wikipedia shouldn't be your only source. People do come in and arbitrarily "correct" others with incorrect information every now and then.

You're right, well technically winter 2011 WILL run into 2012, so I guess Wikipedia is "correct," but it would be clearer to say winter 2011.

Anyways, a few things about the story that I've seen so far do get me excited... first being "The goddess Etro will play a bigger role in the story." Heck yes! If anyone has read any of the backstory or lore of FFXIII, you'll know there's a lot of good material there that they never really touched on in the first game. Glad to see they'll focus on it more this time. Also... "Will not follow the pop style of X-2." Can I get an a-men?

I think its rather silly that people even assumed the "-2" meant it would do what FFX-2 did.

I do, however, hope the battle system would have FFX-2's kind of break-neck pace. I rather enjoyed the ATB system being cranked up to Turbo.

Just keep the status spam where its appropriate, rather than let every enemy silence, paralyze, petrify or stop you.

I absolutely loved X-2's battle system. I also loved leveling up my professions. I hated everything else about the game, but those things were awesome.

(I mean seriously, almost one entire chapter is devoted to looking at boring things through security cameras? What were they smoking?)

I absolutely loved X-2's battle system. I also loved leveling up my professions. I hated everything else about the game, but those things were awesome.

Pretty much this. Battles were the only fun part about that game. Not that XIII didn't have a decent system either, I actually rather liked it especially since they removed MP as a constraint. I miss being able to chain attacks like you could in X-2 though, or moving around freely in battle like in CC.

Just once, I'd like to see an FF game using a similar battle system to Star Ocean. Tri-Ace is really good at making engaging battles. I was gonna say Grandia but then I thought, nah. Much as I love that series it's kinda gone to shit.

I heard the english trailer is on PSN store, I will check later, but I'm also waiting for Type 0 and Versus trailers on Japan PSN store
