If that was the case, how would SE products like FFXIII-2 and FFXIV improve without fan input? Really anyone that likes FFXIV is a fan, even with some criticisms. Listening to them could be safer than only focusing a developers views when said developer might not even play mmorpgs/games themselves and could never understand what is fun and what isn't fun to players, mew.

In reality, Square Enix never really started to listen to fans until this year.

You think fan input had a damn thing to do with going forward on FFXIII?

No, they had tons of assets left over from the project that couldn't be used, just minus a lot of the limitations placed n them by the previous project. They made a gamble, FFXIII sold millions. now they make refinements on a system they could do very little about at the time.

Online and multiplayer games, player input is a requirement, not something to just be cast aside. But single player? Not so much.

Just look at Bethesda, fans have been begging for years for competent testing of their games before they go the retail.

      Never happens.

Some companies are open to input, but I think hiring a fan is much more practical than listening to the vocal minority on a forum.

      See: Valve, Atlus.

That's a different company. Square Enix is good listening to fans on good occasions, like Duodecim for example, some of the additions are based on fan popularity, not just SE's own personal tastes.

And Square Enix is bringing games like Xenogears to PSN, something fans demanded for years. Fan input does influence some things if companies care about them. Companies don't always care but when they do, it's a win-win situation, mew

Yes because when I'm fed up and/or need to save the game so I can shut off the system, it's just awesome being lost in a damn dungeon & being forced to turn off the console and lose my progress.

So as we all know, FFXIII International contains Final Fantasy XIII -Episode i-, a novel covering events after the ending of the game. Similar to how Episode 0 was the prequel to the game covering events and character backstories before the game's story, Episode i is a sequel covering events and character stories taking place after the conclusion of the game's story.

According to a member of NeoGAF, who read Japanese blogs and sites to find information, here is what Episode i is about:

The story started off just after the last scene of the game. The first thing the group did was to find Hope's dad, and to make sure the Sanctum troops were alright. The troops turned out to be okay (despite Rygdea was missing). Cocoon, together with one-third of the Cocoon's population, was destroyed. So Snow and Serah decided to build what they called a new world on pulse. On the other hand, Sazh and Hope wanted to become the strengths of the ones who were left behind. Within everyone's minds, rescuing Fang and Vanille was their first priority. However, they must also help the ones in need, and atone for what they have done.

Lightning, without notifying anyone, quietly walked away from the group. She didn't know why but has the feeling of someone (or something) calling her, urging her to move on. She has a feeling that the war wasn't over yet.

While Sazh, with his son Dahj, piloted his airship to rescue and support the ones in need, Hope went with the Sanctum troops after he was told that his dad has been found. Snow and Serah watched the three of them go. She told him she wanted to become a teacher in the future which he agreed. Just then, Serah finally realized Lightning was already nowhere to be seen. She then started to feel worried.

When Lightning finally came to realization, she found herself floating in the middle of a sea-like zone. There were monsters but neither animals nor plants could be seen. She couldn't sense any breath of life nor could she feel the passage of time. It was a world filled with nihility and abyss. She didn't know why she was there. The only thing Lightning knew was to keep going. "Where am I going?" She asked. There was no answer. In that momentary yet eternal silence, the voice disappeared.

Thanks for posting that J9! Unfortunately all it really tells us is that they find Hope's dad and that Lightning is being "compelled" to go somewhere. I always hate it when they do that... she's just walking off because she "feels" something isn't right... ah well, it's Square and to be expected.

I kinda want to go into FF information hibernation until the game actually releases. I basically ruined the ending to FFXIII for myself by visiting GameFAQs a month before it released and seeing a thread title detailing the ending. Gotta love GameFAQs.

News: Final Fantasy XIII-2 'exceeds FFXIII in every aspect' - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

9 CommentsSquare Enix UK's just put its official seal on Final Fantasy XIII-2, promising it "exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect".

"Final Fantasy XIII-2 is currently in production with an aim for producing high quality game content which exceeds Final Fantasy XIII in every aspect; namely, a brand-new story which stems from the previous title as well as a battle system which has evolved further since XIII - and more," the publisher says.

"We will be disclosing further details about the new game in the future."

FFXIII-2 will be released in Europe and other PAL territories next winter on PS3 and 360, SE confirmed.
This is very exciting! FFXIII-2 will definitely improve in all categories and really show people that sequels can be a great thing!

                        Sequels can be very good, but faith is SE is running severely low these days. <_<;

mew! The sequel will redeem the reputation and stuff! And things are being improved!

It's kind of like DMC2, people said it was terrible, but the director then made DMC3 and people cheered and agree it's the best!

Sorry J9 but, there's really no evidence at this point that the game will be any good at all. Sure we can hope, but it was just announced for release 11+ months from now, which is a while, and we probably won't know much until October or November. At this point all we can do is speculate and hope.

Nuuu, they will reveal it bit by bit this year! And they have been developing it right after they finished XIII! So they had maybe 2 years at least working on it! And also with the current ground work they have from XIII, they can build faster and complete it earlier, mew! That's why it's coming 11 months instead of 3 years, mew.

Ya maybe in March or something they will show more, they will surely reveal much more since the release is kind of close for a new announced FF!

You've got a point, usually they announce a new FF when it's at least 1.5 years away, this is quite an improvement for them.
