Says the Nintendo Dick-rider. 'nuff said.

I'll continue to keep treating the Wii for what it is until Nintendo proves otherwise - a souped-up, glorified version of one of those plug&play games they used to advertise on TV as that's what the majority of the software has amounted to.

      That's what you're saying here.

I'd tell you to go fuck yourself, but given you're in the act of public masturbation right now, it would be redundant.

If there's something I can say about about Wii, Facebook and even iPhone gamers is they are not as close to being as fucking stupid as hardcore gamers are. They just like what they like and that's OK. You twits with you cocks in your PS3s and 360s go and spend hundreds of dollars a month at $60 a game just so you can chest thump about what "real" games are on forums?

Really, who are the idiots here - us or them?

I'm going to say its us because we spend more time on meaningless bullshit than they do. Its just a distraction for them. The guy just playing Farmville isn't signing his paychecks away to Best Buy and GameStop, either.

Do you seriously want to argue that our way of gaming is somehow superior to theirs? Because we're the stupid ones happy to be fleeced on a near-weekly basis. Its not them.

They're not sitting there looking at their hardware with disdain because a game didn't come out for it this week. They don't see that as a problem. They're like we were back in the 80s and 90s - happy to play what they have.

Its sort of why I like the Wii - there's not a fucking million games looming over the horizon that I'll be stupid enough to buy, but never finish. So I finish what I have. I actually finish games on the Wii. Its beautiful. I have no real Wii "backlog" to worry about, I just have the next game I want to finish.
Don't be so dramatic. The video games I buy are few and far between, and I don't buy them just so I can fist-pump with the rest of the hardcore crowd. I buy the games that meet my interests and that I find intellectually stimulating. I can see more than the graphics and gameplay, and I can get a sense of the processes that went into developing them. I appreciate thoughtful content, and the people who come up with it.

There's little to appreciate when you've got a company like Nintendo that lays down the same old stuff over the newest kind of recent technologies. There's little there in the way of creativity and innovation. They always play the same cards, no matter how they shuffle the deck.

"Announcement on forthcoming release of FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 A sequel to “FINAL FANTASY XIII”

London (18 January 2011) – Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces a new release for next winter, FINAL FANTASY® XIII-2 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. It'll be out this year 2011 in quarter 4. Its currently winter now, so next winter is that of 2011, not 2012, unless they plan to release it in Jan/Feb of 2012, but that would still be winter of 2011.

This post cannot be read without this image.

Here's a thought: Different people find different things stimulating, sometimes its even affected by time, place and mood. Just because you don't find something "intellectually stimulating" (most of us just call that "fun") doesn't mean the platform it appears on isn't valid.

There is nothing cerebral about the forthcoming Bulletstorm. It is the big dumb Hollywood action flick. Big and dumb like The Mummy movies.

Does that mean it is of less value because its not some heady moral choice/faction driven wank?

              Not really.

In the right time and place, I can be in the mood for both. Personally, I find it pretty dull to stick my head in the same genre over and over again. There was a time I was completely oblivious to how miserable I was making myself because I convinced myself that RPGs were the most worthwhile investment and where my money should go.

Last year, I have played FPS, 2D and 3D platformers, action games, retro games, retro-themed games, shoot-em-ups, action/adventure and RPGs.

              No More Heroes
              Shadow of the Colossus
              Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
              Okami
              Zelda: Twilight Princess
              Bit.Trip Runner and Bit.Trip Fate
              Sonic 4
              Sonic Colors
Goldeneye (complete with all the modern day trimmings)
              Phantasy Star Portable 2
              Persona 3 Portable
              Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
              MGS: Peacewalker
              Infinite Space
              Dragon Quest IX
              Cave Story
              SMT: Devil Summoner 2
              Digital Devil Saga
              Digital Devil Saga 2
              Epic Mickey
              Kirby's Epic Yarn
              Monster Hunter Tri
              Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
              Donkey Kong Country Returns
              Resident Evil 4 Wii
              Tons of Metroid
              Tons of Castlevania
              Etrian Odyssey III
              Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
              Pokemon Soul Silver

And I might be missing a few. Some of it was a catch-up year, some of it was revists and much of it was new games. And it goes from innocent fun to dark fantasy.

What it wasn't was stuff that was somehow less than what you played because it wasn't suited to your tastes.

I don't think I can edit the thread title since I'm not a mod, but amusingly Jarre managed to bring us back on topic for two posts lol. Grats Jarre.

Really, Dak, we'll have to agree to disagree, because my definition of a game console does not go beyond face value. Your definition of a game console also takes into account the intent of its creators, and mine doesn't. Obviously the intent of the Wii was to make money. It adds a new gimmick and uses relatively cheap parts to make it a system that the mass market can buy. But I don't think that makes any difference on what, by definition, the console actually is... it is and will always be (to me) a videogame console by default because, well, it can only really be used to play videogames.

I would also suggest to you that you may need to re-evaluate Microsoft and Sony's intentions for their own consoles. I think it's rather misguided to think they created their own consoles for anything other than money, and if you disagree, I would recommend you take a look at the second sentence on this page: Business - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

That's stretching things pretty far. The plots of the series have been somewhat weak ever since FF8, and have been getting progressively worse IMO. That's not to say I didn't enjoy them because I did, but I haven't been wowed by them since FF7.

It may or may not be legally recognized[2] but the primary purpose of any business-organization or business-activity is basically to earn money and/or other financial benefits.
Above all, without money the business wouldn't exist. Thus, their primary purpose is to make money. This doesn't neccissarily mean that all businesses are created with the sole intent of profiting. Some businesses, like Activision, exist with the singular goal of profiting. Others, like Bethesda Softworks, don't.

Seriously Dak? We're talking about MS, Sony, and Nintendo here. All three companies sole purpose for existance is to make money. They are responsible for turning a profit each year and are answerable to the shareholders.

Bethesda is also in the business of making money, whether you believe so or not. It wouldn't exist otherwise. I highly doubt any entertainment org operates on a not-for-profit model.

Businesses that don't have profitable business models will no longer be a business much longer.

If you want to rag on the Wii there are so many better ways of doing it than foaming at the mouth with phrases akin to "not a true gaming console". That just makes you look like a fool.

Well, for one, neither of those are entirely true and, additionally, Dak would have to play Wii games to even seem like he knew what he was talking about.

All consoles have shovelware, sometimes it's just called Call of Duty, Splinter Cell or Guitar Hero instead of Petz or Imagine Fashion Designer.

No matter where you go, Activision and Ubi Soft are shovelware kings, only occasionally publishing a worthwhile game.

In Ubi Soft's case, the No More Heroes and Might and Magic games.

                                For Activision, Starcraft 2.
