If you want to rag on the Wii there are so many better ways of doing it than foaming at the mouth with phrases akin to "not a true gaming console". That just makes you look like a fool.

Grow some balls and call it out for having a shitty input device and a terrible game library.

Why are you angry that I don't dislike the Wii for the same reasons you do?

I've played a few of their games, but I can't say I'm familiar with the library.

The thing about the Wii, and why I don't see it as a true gaming platform is because that's not what Nintendo is even really going for with it.

That's called an opinion. That logical fallacy would require him to claim it's not a gaming console, and when proven otherwise, revise his original claim to somehow exclude it once more. The claim hasn't changed once since I started this discussion, it's not considered a gaming console because it's real purpose wasn't as a platform for people to play games on, it's simply a coincidence that Nintendo wants money and their staff can make games.

What is it's real purpose? To make money via the selling of games, right?

Just because it may not have the games you like, or have hardcore competitive titles, doesn't make it any less of a gaming console.

So in order to be a gaming console, it needs to push the technological boundries of the current generation? Is that how you define what qualifies as a gaming console? Because if so, that is a pretty poor definition.

I would even go as far as the SNES really.

The N64 was already going down the path of recycling even if it's games were still sort of innovative.

Of course (as expected) my dislike for Nintendo started back when they backstabbed Sony about about the CD add-on for the SNES. Which ended up with Sony giving Nintendo the finger and creating that little awesome true console known as the Playstation.

If we're talking about technological innovation, or even innovation in general, Nintendo has always been ahead of the game. Nintendo was the only one to innovate at launch this generation. It took the others ~four years to catch up. See: Move and Kinect, two products created because of what Nintendo did with the Wii motion controls. Granted, Microsoft did innovate quite a bit with Kinect, but Sony's Move is definitely a direct Wii copy.

In fact, I'd say Nintendo took a HUGE risk with the Wii... instead of sticking to the 'tried and true' method of improving graphics, they did something completely different and completely changed how games are played. Big corporations like Sony and Microsoft have traditionally been much less willing to take such a risk, and it's not their fault, that's just how big business works. If you have a proven method of making money (read: simply upgrading your hardware to higher specs), you stick to it and you make that money. This is exactly what Sony and Microsoft did, and Nintendo instead did a completely different thing. Of course it's my opinion, but based on this, I'd say the Wii is the most innovative, gamer-centric, consumer-friendly console this generation.

FFXIII-2 looks good from the JP trailer I saw and cant wait for it to come out :D I honestly didnt mind the battle system or linearity, since to me given the premise that they were on the run kinda helped it all fit the bill. Thats just my opinion though but I'm sure a few people here (not gonna mention names since they will make themselves apparent) will beg to differ.
