I mentioned in an earlier post that I don't mind cases being opened, but I feel like I was leaning towards used game cases. I buy a decent amount of used games, but I still won't touch it if the case isn't pretty decent.

Now for new games, I feel like it loses that 'new' title when the case has been unwrapped to be used for display. The game could get scratched from mishandling while moving it to a sleeve, the case could be damaged from many customers picking it up to look at it and possibly dropping it, or workers shuffling it around while it's unwrapped.

Also, I feel like it loses it's 'new' title when it's been unwrapped and had a "New" sticker slapped on the front. I feel like that defaces the case and puts something on it that wasn't there during it's original state.

I can recall six Gamestop locations in my area, and they're all dark, dingy, and cluttered with games in slipcases, empty boxes, promotions, and trash. There's actually two locations in the same mall, and they're both just as dirty. If they're aiming for the flea-market image, bullseye. That's exactly what they're cultivating; used or otherwise old junk laying around everywhere and DID I MENTION THE STICKERS? Their only saving grace is the case filled with new copies of recently released games sitting behind the registers. EB Games was NEVER this grungy. Their stores were always well lit, clean, and professional. It was sad watching the transition from EB to GS after the new Gamestop signs went up.

Also, today is the last day to preorder Dragon Age 2 Signiture Editions.

        Re: Gamestop UGH

I hate buying used games in general. Aside from the sticker issue already mentioned (and yes, I'm OCD about that shit, stickers need to come off), I also have been burned a few times buying used games that you pop in the console and - oh fuck, look, it doesn't work. Must be nice to be the dick who sells them back to GS when they know the games don't work and get extra money off some broken product.

But the main reason I don't like to buy used is that the developer doesn't get a cut of my money when I buy used from Gamestop. They've already gotten it once, when the first person who bought the game made the purchase. I'm buying a game because I have faith in the developer that it's a good game and I want them to continue to develop more good games like the one I've just purchased, so I want the money to go in their pocket. If I buy new, GS and the developer are making money, but if I buy used, it's just GameStop. (This may not be 100% accurate, but I'm pretty sure this is the way it works. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.)

That said, I do buy used from time to time - usually with old games that no longer are being made new and that I don't want to have to wait for Amazon or something to ship it to me. But if I'm buying something that's relatively new, I'll spend the extra money to purchase it new. And yeah, I really do hate those stickers that don't come off worth a shit.

I miss Babbage's. Also, if you have any near you, I'd suggest going to Play n' Trade for your used needs. They have games from Atari to current consoles. It's a nice trip down memory lane in there
