What the hell did they do to the EB Games they bought out? What used to be a clean, slick store with well-mannered employees is now a crowded, dirty store with grunts that appear to have had their souls removed. Oh, and the stickers! Why are there so many stickers on everything??? When I purchase a game new, I like a nice clean box with a nice clean cover, not this hot mess of stickers and prices.

So, where can I go to place my preorders? I like to make sure my game will be there the day it's released, rather than hoping every last copy hasn't been snatched up. Is there a decent place to do this, anymore?

Well Best Buy takes pre-orders. I only did it once there though...but no stickers! You could order online but you would probably get it a day or two after if you don't get same day shipping. Though some places have deals close to release that bump up the shipping for free. I feel your pain, its the same here.

You do realize you're saying this right in the heat of the holidays? Do you know how IMPOSSIBLE it is to keep such a store straight right now, particularly when hours get cut? There isn't even time to alphabetize shit, just approximate because people are coming to the used section to fuck it up again the second you leave it.

It was actually easier before Christmas to keep things nice and tidy. The world of gift-cards and returns brings a nice dose of chaos to the mix. So basically, you need to get a serious clue here and realize you picked a really bad time to go shopping.

I'm still trying to recover my voice from two days ago, the door constantly opening with new customers, the cold air coming in. I was pretty much voiceless within four hours and had to press on.

Oh, and the stickers! Why are there so many stickers on everything??? When I purchase a game new, I like a nice clean box with a nice clean cover, not this hot mess of stickers and prices.

EB did the display copy thing, too. They only had the display copy left. Too bad. Are game retailers just supposed to leave a sealed copy on the shelves for people to steal?

And on used copies at Best Buy, expect the mess stickers there too.

If your pre-ordered copy is getting sold, it means one of two things:

(1) You did not pick up your game within 48 hours of release
(2) Or your local GS employees are doing it wrong and the management should be informed.

But hey, its far easier to generalize, dehumanize and act like you know it all, right?

Only difference there ever was between EB and GS is that EB required game cases for trade-ins. Its a practice I personally preferred, too. But oh well, what can you do when your customers treat games like shit and they're selling on ebay and Amazon caseless without instructions?

Amazon often has pre-orders for things. Often pre-orders are guaranteed to arrive on release day.

Stickers on boxes bugged me until I bought more used games then new. Now I just have cd books I keep most things in.

A display copy is not new. New is SEALED so if you are going to give me some bullshit about this being the last copy but its open, then sell it to me for the used price. I knew a couple people that worked at GS and when a used game would come into the store that would look brand new and they didn't have new stock on it, they put the used copy out as the display copy and sold it at new prices. When I go into the grocery story I don't buy new stock that is open and I'm certainly not doing it at GS either.

As for used at BB, he was talking about pre-orders so that means he was interested in new and not used. The BB's around here don't even sell used in the store but they do buy used.

It's easier to bitch on a forum than to bitch to corporate. You should know this by now, Kailea.

Also, as BBQ said, it's the shopping season. Granted, it's the end of it now, but retail (doesn't matter if it's groceries, technology, or otherwise) is insane. Usually, the employees are trying their best to get everything done in time. Some stuff will look like garbage.

Some of them do already sell used and the one in my area is starting to dabble in it with the PS3 section. In true BB fashion, you can't expect them to stock or accept used copies of niche titles.

Its not new, new is a sealed copy. Is it sealed? No.

Its not terribly difficult to have a game sealed again, does that make it new for you?

The game is new until it is placed in a disc tray and played, simple as that.

I never understood some customers that come in and by the last copy of something we have, then whine because its not sealed. Its like we ran out on purpose just to piss them off.

I have only given a discount on a new title once, and that was because the case itself was damaged.

I picked up the very last copy of Castevania: Order of Ecclesia for my DS eariler this year. Last copy was a display copy.

Had it been sun-bleached and it was notable, only then might I have said something about it. And this was well before I had my discount.

Honest truth is there are plenty of customers that have been willing to accept GS's terms of "new" that it could be policy. Consumer habits dictate how retail functions. Plus the display case serves to prevent shoplifting as much as possible and serve as a visual aid for customers less familiar with shopping in game outlets.

Copies on the shelf = Game in stock. No display case and the customer is worried we don't have the game.

Imo, new is FACTORY SEALED. Not that I care, I have no issues with used things. But the distinction is important.

Exactly. I wouldn't buy open stock of aspirin or food at new prices because I don't consider them new and the store doesn't either but GS does because the almighty dollar is the only thing thats important to them.
