Final Fantasy IV, FFIV: The After coming to PSP- Destructoid

I'm assuming this will be a re-touch of the previous 2D iteration of FFIV, but with the job upgrades and augmentation systems of the DS version. Additionally there will be a new chapter that connects the story of FFIV to The After Years, the complete story of which will also be included.

So if you didn't get FFIV DS and didn't want to shell out $8 per episode for The After Years, this looks to be the version to get.

Which number was this pitched to the US as when it originally came out?? Was it FFII on SNES? I get so confused with that wierdness...
    FFxiv ~ (PS3 Beta) 24THM, 16LNC, 16CNJ, 15MRD/GLD/ARC/PUG
    FFxi ~ (Inactive) 99DNC/THF/SAM/BLU

Yeah, it was sold as Final Fantasy II in the US. Squaresoft never thought we'd want the real FFII and FFIII so badly.

Big $30 question would be what difficulty setting were getting this time out. FFII was the FFIV Japanese Easy Mode release. PSX FF Chronicles had the hard version. GBA retouch and FFIV DS were medium.

IV was released as II in the US.
VI was released as III in the US.
Easiest way is to just double the number of the US SNES games.

Also: Interesting. I may get this.

I've tried and wanted to finish FFiv for a long time now... I usually get to the Moon and then just lose interest.

I think its partly due to the compulsion to collect all of Rydia's summons and many of them are available all over the Lunar area, but are immensely rare drops. Plus the surface and especially the ruins were so encounter-heavy it was sometimes hard to enjoy it. If they added just a couple more save points in the ruins, I think people could put up with it.

Aw, this was gonna be one of the games I would get with my new 3DS.

Ah well, free After Years content I wouldn't buy otherwise!

With the shift between DS and 3DS I think that briefly we're going to see a lot of good exclusives that would be cheaper to produce on PSP since 3DS productions might have raised development costs just a bit higher. Nintendo's continued success in the portable arena even through this holiday is reason enough for some developers to take the plunge on 3DS, however. They still managed to push out 600k+ on DS this holdiay, besting even the PS3 in sales numbers - that's not too shabby for such old tech.

Of course, Sony being Sony, I tend to believe the rumors that PSP2 is going to have the power a few steps short of a PS3 and go for the highest resolution they can muster on the next iteration since 1080p and HD would be a bit pointless. This will raise development costs and once again put it out of reach of the mainstream.

Basically, stupid is as stupid does. They're going to throw away the one advantage Nintendo just gave them. I don't expect Sony has learned anything from their failures in the face of Apple, either, but Nintendo's damn well paying attention if Iwata's comments are anything to go by.

ooooooooo fun stuff, yet another version of FFXIV for me to nab, ..... in my collection I normal only get the "original" of a game. but FFIV is my only exception. I have the version from Chronicles (PSX) the version from DS and I will get the version for PSP as well.

Re: FFIV: The Complete Collection coming to PSP

I got both FF4 DS and the after years (though didn't really buy anything beyond the initial installment) and I am so picking this up anyway.

FF1 and 2 were both beautifully rendered on PSP, can't wait to see how 4 looks. Hoping they keep the voice work too as it was pretty solid in the DS remake.

And it remains to be seen what Sony does with the PSP2. All I can so about it for now though, is it better fucking have dual analog this time around.

they should base it on the SNES graphics, but make it more high quality like that they did with FFI and FFII.

I didn't like the DS 3-D child graphics, it didn't fit the mature story, mew.

It may work for Virtua Fighter Kids, but not FFIV.

Oh mew, they should of remade it for PS3, so the in-game graphics and cutscenes would look like this:

Yeah! Just look at FFVII! Its Lego-like 3D models with blocks for hands went hand-in-hand with the mature plot.

They were realistically proportioned during battle and cutscenes at least.

                              There was a mature plot?

                              Not even then.

Unless you know people shaped like Barret Wallace.

I don't know anyone shaped like a square.
