At least they didn't look like children/hobbits in battle.
Right, they looked like cheap action figures children play with.
Piece of advice: Don't try to argue that FFVII has aged well or looks better than other games. It hasn't and it doesn't.
If I put Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy 2 side-by-side, would you seriously still play Mario 64 and insist it was better? Nostalgia can only accommodate for so much, some things just aren't as good as you remember them.
Neither will age well, but FFIV DS ran the majority of its cutscenes in-game and while the characters may go with the superdeformed approach, they've got a bit more detail to the. You know, rather than detailed backgrounds only and characters without detail.
mew mew mew unless you can see the "art", you can't understand that FFVII looks better than FFIVDS, especially combat-wise. FFVII also has much better in-game art direction. FFVII graphics, minus the field models, fit its atmosphere great.
Eh 7 was mature enough. Though I view 7 as a whole rather than just the 1 game (which sadly means including DoC)
Really the only truly silly FF I think was 5. Possibly 9, but 9 gets away with it because it's doing it on purpose for nostalgia. 12 is probably the most mature title, but not by that much. It's largely because of the huge focus on politics in that game, the cast wasn't all that different from the rest of the series otherwise. It's honestly a close call between 6 and 12, and I actually lean more towards 6 particularly because of just how morbid and serious it gets after Kefka condemns the planet to a slow, agonizing death.
Am I the only one who thought the FFVII block-people were endearing?
I didn't mind them at all. Back in the day I couldn't fathom anything better (until I saw the demo for FFVIII and the realistic proportions on the characters blew my mind.) Just saying, they definitely weren't more detailed than the DS character models.
Now that's a good looking remake that at least stays true to the original style while enhancing the look just right, mew!
That's the next best thing to making a full nextgen graphics remake similiar to FFIV DS's intro video! And unlike the inferior DS version, the sound will be phenomenol, mew!
