I actually considered getting Karaoke Revolution Glee for my sister and her fiance for Christmas, but I didn't want make them cancel the wedding when it was just days after that. Plus I should get something he would like, too.

FIFA 2011 sounds about right for them, actually.

Well you have to remember that FIFA games are guaranteed to sell in Europe much like how Madden games are guaranteed to sell in the US.

We also only just got Kinect and Move so once the novelty wears off and parents stop buying shovelware for their kids that junk should vanish from the charts. A lot of people over here have a Wii and/or DS to entertain family members and guests interested in gaming since you can always find some terrible party game that people will have a laugh with but wouldn't seriously buy it. Nintendo basically market the DS and Wii to women and children, both in incredibly offensive and patronising manners and also only ever seem to advertise the shovelware you see in the charts. The average person on the street that is interested in casual gaming but doesn't know what games are actually good isn't going to know that a game that is being heavily pushed is bad or not because the layman is less likely to do the research for a casual passtime. I'm not defending people's terrible choice in games, just noting why you always seem to find some terrible shovelware in the UK charts.

Look a few weeks to a few months back and the charts looks different (if you ignore the inevitable Football game because they will never leave the UK charts):

UK Charts: Black Ops sales refuse to lag- Destructoid
UK Charts: Football, football, football, FOOTBALL!- Destructoid
UK Charts: Race cars are better than Halo- Destructoid
UK Charts: Halo: Reach edges out Sports Champions- Destructoid

And yes F1 2010 did outsell Halo in the UK. I actually played it at a friend's house and it was fun though the 360's pad is very clunky and clumsy for games that really need precise controls.

As a note, Goldeneye actually sold well for a Wii game not marketed towards women and children.

Then again sometimes the UK charts are frankly, fucking weird to look at:

UK Charts: Demon Souls gets into the top ten!?!?!?!- Destructoid
UK Charts: Final Fantasy XIII wins, obviously- Destructoid
UK Charts: Heavy Rain hits number one- Destructoid

I don't think they even market Just Dance in the states, they tend to market the core stuff and then the Wii party casual stuff. Women just pick up what they like, as they are actually about 30% of the DS market even in the states (and actually 50% for PSP, interestingly)

There's also the fact that distribution takes a higher priority here, particularly for the niche markets. For example, Atlus doesn't even have a EU branch to publish from, so for Persona 4 they did have to go through SE to get it out there, sometimes other publishers for other games.

Goldeneye does seem to have fared well, if the online presence and leaderboards are any indication. I'm never at a loss to find a game to join.

Altus used to use KOEI though given how long it takes for them to localise games in Europe even Square Enix was a far better choice for them to get games out. We only had to avoid anything to do with Persona 4 on the internet for 6 months after US release to avoid spoilers thanks to Squeenix. for Persona 3, FES was already out in Japan before we got it and they got Persona 4 a good 2 or 3 months before we even got P3 FES. The only KOEi games we seem to get within a reasonable timeframe are the Dynasty Warrior games because they sell extremely well in Europe, mostly to fans of the old side scrolling beat 'em up games.

When Atlus games do come out in the UK they do tend to sell very quickly. Problem is is that the publishers don't distribute enough copies to dent the charts which is another thing you need to be wary of when looking at the charts in the UK. Persona 4 is a great example. It sold out everywhere and didn't dent the charts because there simple weren't enough copies.

Square Enix did also publish Disgaea 3 and that DID break into the PS3 charts and managed to stay there for a very long time (over 8 weeks I think) which is incredible for an SRPG on the PS3.

The UK charts shown on American sites also rarely do a console to console breakdown which is another reason why it's always the predictable cash cow multiplatform games in the charts. BlazBlue fell victim to this because despite it being a great success on individual consoles, the total sales just couldn't top games like Red Dead Redemption and Super Street Fighter 4 Street Inevitable Capcom remake cash in that is pointless to buy if you have the original 4.

And Goldeneye does look fun though I'm having a lot of fun with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's online mode (grab three friends and the team mode is a blast especially when you manage to pull off a fully co-ordinated plan to hidefrom the Assassins or come up with a great plan to assassinate the other team), Ertian Odyssey 3 then there's also Cataclysm out in a couple of weeks and the FFXIV update (though unless I get into another RPLS I might take a break from it and stick to just Cataclysm as I'm in a great Blood Elf RP guild on WoW at the moment). Might see if I can pick up Goldeneye for cheap in the January sales while I play that cluster of games.
