Okay I'll bite.

Why would Altus, a small video games company remake a game for the PS3 when for a company of it's size, sticking to handhelds turns a far greater profit.

Remember that when Atlus USA got the rights to publish Demon's Souls it made $7million, doesn't sound like a lot but to Atlus that is a MASSIVE amount of cash.

They also had a lot of the assets from the PS2 version anyway. Why go to the expense of making HD assets in order for the game be worth developing on a current-gen console when they can just use the PSP which basically has the same computing power as the PS2 anyway?

Remaking a game the size of Persona 3 or 4 on the PS3 would have been stupidly expensive, not to mention extremely time consuming (AKA why we will also never see a FFVII remake on the PS3). Remakes are also not a guaranteed sell, especially with a niche developer like Atlus whom while popular, aren't exactly a large or wealthy company.

Really I wish people will read a fucking economics textbook before posting idiotic things like that.

ya I guess PSP is popular overseas, but still, mew, they could at least make more money if they made the games support being playable on PS3 too, even if its the exact same version as PSP!

That would really make more sales for companies if they make the PSP games playable on PS3 too! It's silly that people can buy/download PSP games on their P-S-3, yet they are only playable on PSP!

They are skipping the entire PS3 consumer market! Look at the games that go multiplatform. Companies do that to make more money, they could do the same for PSP games if they wanted to, and it would be a win situation for ps3 owners, psp owners and the company!

First Atlus didn't develop Demon's Souls. Atlus would not have been able to afford to develop a game like that at the time. They published it and pocketed something like $7 Million i nthe process.

Second: What would be the point of buying a PSP if the games can also be played on the PS3? There is a good risk of seeing PSP sales crash if you do that.

J9, you have had three chances to play Persona 3, two on PS2 and one on PSP over the course of five years.Why the hell would they go and make an HD version now, much less undercut PSP by making the PSP PSN version playable on PS3?

Atlus is making a PS3/360 game, its called Catherine, but when you look at the big picture, PSP, DS and 3DS are largely where their future plans lie. They've already slated SMT, Persona and Devil Survivor games for the 3DS, along with Etrian Odyssey IV. Apparently they see some savings and profit going on here.

I don't think a game in the style of Persona is a budget-buster of an HD project, its not a world-spanning RPG, but one focused on various sections of a city or small town. Plus dungeons are randomly generated for the most part. Still, when you have all the assets from a PS2 game and could port them elsewhere with relative ease at the same quality as before, why not just go the cheap route with the handheld version.

Its not like P3P loses much from its predecessor aside from some anime cutscenes and 3D areas (which were easily converted to 2D stills). They just do the anime cutscenes in-game and re-voice them. That anime stuff was too few and far-between anyway.

Also, Demon's Souls was a SCEJ/From Software collaboration. SCEA refused to publish because they thought it was too hard and too niche for US gamers. Yes, Sony Computer Entertainment America is indeed run by assholes that like to decide what's right for you in terms of difficulty. Sony Japan went to Atlus USA and Atlus localized and published it in the US. Nice tidy profit for them, too, so much that it actually forced SCEA to admit they had underestimated their core players.

And games like Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia and Split Second - games that appeared on the PS3 - that have appeared on PSP aren't even the same games they were. Few, if any PS3 games have seen ports that were markedly similar. We have seen PS2 and PS1 games on PSP, but that's because they're easier to do on that platform.

Shame this is US only, it's a massive pain in the backside to get access to PSN wallet cards in the UK, otherwise I'd be running up a massive bandwidth bill with those games :3

an easier and cheaper fix to that problem, make the PsP games full screen when you play then using the TV cables -.- and allow PS3 controller support through USB on PsP, Problem solved

and yes I know the PSP Go can use the PS3 controller through bluetooth, but I am mainly referring to the people that have 2000 and 3000 models.

The games Atlus makes shouldn't require the use of a guide at all, seeing as everything auto-maps, scanning for weaknesses is a basic ability, you're given multiple options to get out of dungeons, to regain MP/HP and so on.

Even Etrian Odyssey grows more and more progressive by installment, even though it appears to subscribe to old vector dungeons and MUDs or Wizardry's concepts when did any of those games give you a character that could regen parth HP/MP AND subclass a job that is great withr logging, cultivation and mining points as well as give the party an EXP bonus just for being there? Or lets you make a Ninja that can count for two party members and still be alive if one of them dies?

Games made by Atlus these days tend to make SE look archaic in some respects, the games Atlus publishes are another matter, but they generally publish games worth experiencing (Magna Carta being the one mistake they've made in recent years). Crimson Gem Saga is heavenly compared to its predecessor, Astonisting Story.
