Ouch. I don't think I've seen my server, Defias Brotherhood (UK) actually spike over 140ms and that server's located in France. To connect to it my ISP routes me through the US, along the east coast and back across the Atlantic for some stupid reason...

It's why a consistent latency of400ms shocked me really. I've NEVER had latency like that when playing on the US servers for MMOs before.

You know what sucks? I have this meeting today after work, and all I really want to do is go home, wait in the queue for a bit (which will be long enough for me to shower, eat dinner, clean up a bit, etc.) and get back down to Vashj'ir. And also fuck around with the Winter Veil event.

But I have to like, do real life stuff. :/

        *BUMP*

Question for anyone who may know. I've been bored at work so I've taken to reading some of the backstory/lore on WowWiki during my downtime and it's really fascinating. I didn't know there was really that much backstory in WoW until I bothered to look it up.

So now I'm wondering, can anyone recommend me some either good websites to check out, or even what the best books I should read for the lore? Now that I've gotten a taste of it (and I'm sure it's quite watered down on the Wiki), I'm hooked. I'm particularly interested in the stories of the Horde (naturally) and Sylvannas/the Forsaken, but really, I'd love to read up on all of it eventually.

Seek out the Roleplay community. There's a lot of Lore stuff and roleplay guides can teach you a lot about the lore of a particular setting since roleplaying well requires you to know the world well. Azeroth's actually pretty fun to roleplay in in general.

This is a thread containing roleplay guides but it's useful for learning the lore for the various races. WoWWiki is good for lore too but the guides are several years out of date so I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Yeah I've been reading WoWWiki which is entertaining, but it's so watered down. And you're right, not all of the articles have updates pertaining to the present (post-Cataclysm).

I'm running on pure adrenaline at work today because (lolPSTserver) I stayed up til 1 AM raiding ICC with my guild. It was so damn fun, I didn't even care what time it was. I have a feeling I'm going to be keeping a lot more late nights when we start raiding Cataclysm in January, so I'd better get used to it.

OMG. I clicked that link you posted Firewind and then from there clicked off to the General Discussion forums where I spend a lot of my time browsing while work is slow, not thinking anything of it. (I noticed it was different, but forums update all the time so really, for all I know, they had updated them.) When I got there, it said I didn't have a game license under my RL name and I'd need one to post. I searched the armory and didn't find my character name anywhere, so I started to freak out.

Started looking for support numbers and such, thinking the worst, even though I still had my password as I was clearly logged in. It took about 20 minutes of clicking links/searching support until I got to the phone support page, where I realized I was ... on the EU Blizzard site ... and therefore of course would not have a license or characters.

So maybe staying up late last night wasn't such a great idea after all. /facepalm

hehe, well I have two accounts so I honestly didn't realise it would have been a problem until I read that post .

The EU RP communities for MMOs are very good and they tend to be tight knit with lots of communication between guilds to organise inter-guild events and guilds on the other faction to organise PvP events. Sure there are griefers but you get them everywhere you go and on games that are actually well moderated like WoW, it's easy to get rid of them by reporting. On WoW, griefers on RP servers tend to get a nice message from a GM within about 10-15 mins of opening the ticket and due to most GMs being overworked, you tend not to see the griefer around again .

I'm honestly not sure what the RP community for the US is like on MMOs because I've never really sought it out outside of FFXI/XIV. I do know that most American roleplayers tend to do it on MUDs.

And Roleplaying is now actually my favourite form of trolling in Dungeon Finder groups and Random BGs. The reactions vary from:

                1) Indifference. Most people don't care as long as you can play your class.
                2) "Cool an RPer, sure I'll play along" people who don't roleplay but will humour you as long as you can play your class (Happened often on FFXI)
                3) You find another RPer, closet RPer or someone who just wants to try it out and they play along (This happened a LOT on FFXI)
                4) People who flame you on a personal level with a baffling level of vitriol because you don't play the game how they want you to play it. Rarely they apologise when they realise you mean no harm and can play your class, most of the time they just flat out ignore you. These people usually get a little "reported" tell. What is hilarious about this kind of person is that Raiding is possible while staying in character if you are in a Military Style RP Guild .
                5) People who seem to take offence to a roleplayer being around. These are the ones I like because they are different then the above. #4 actively tries to upset and insult you. This type of person just rages while everyone else (myself included) gets to sit back with the popcorn and giggle.
                6) People who go into a foaming berserker rage because someone is having fun in their game. I usually reach for the popcorn and watch the fireworks when I get one of these guys.

Hahaha. I'm not interested in really doing any RP, but the stories are really good now that I'm reading them. I wouldn't really mind if someone RPed in a dungeon with me, though. I might even humor them and go along with it just for the hell of it.

And to change the subject. I've been messing around with Rogue builds.

I actually use this build for my Rogue (7/2/32). I have a blast with it in PvP. The points in Cheat Death can be moved around though since Vanish doesn't even make you vanish now (It now takes a full second to kick in and you can still be targetted and hit for that second while stealthed). I do find it useful for those "OH SHI-" moments as it gives you a chance to slip away, premeditate then Recuperate while you try to find a healer or find a safe place to bandage up. Still with that build I usually come top on damage and Killing Blows in Battlegrounds and I'm very rarely outside the top 3.

For Raiding I like this: (34/3/4). I've never actually ran out of energy with that setup. Glyph of Tricks of the Trade can be switched to Glyph of Sprint if you don't have another Rogue to Trick with. Points in Nightstalker and Deadly Brew can be shifted though I find they useful because Nightstalker gives you more mobility and Deadly Brew means you can use a second damage dealing poison instead of Crippling Poison.

Hmm. Maybe I should RP in my guild that, as a Forsaken Priest, it is terribly painful for me to cast spells of the Holy Light, and therfore, I must always be DPS. Hahahahaha.

I wouldn't really do that. I definitely do prefer DPS though and I think I may be able to get away with mainspec Shadow and only dropping into Holy when absolutely necessary. At least, I got the impression that the guild was ok with me being DPS instead of heals. I kind of dpsing. Had so much fun in ICC last night and even things like the CoC. It's funny that even though it's a different game than FFXI, I'm still so burnt out on healing that I don't want to touch it even with an entirely different arsenal of toys to play with.

I'm itching to get back into PvP though, I'm about 12 bars from 85 so when I hit cap, I'm going to PvP my ass off and work on getting some gearz.

Also, been tooling around on my Orc Hunter (23) and my brand new Gobby Warlock (10) when I'm not in the mood for grinding 80+ stuff. I don't intend to get either to cap very quickly, but it's both fun and informative to play some different classes.

To be honest I'm not too sure about Holy as a Priest. I've tried this Discipline Build out on my Priest and had a lot of fun: (33/5/3). It's mostly about mitigation so I wouldn't try raid healing with it, it's for Tank healing only but you can toss out some damage when you're bored of waiting for the tank to actually take damage.

I wouldn't take that into PvP though. Discipline IS fun in PvP but just keep in mind that Rogues can more or less pick the exact moment you die. Don't get me wrong, Disc is a nice alternative to Shadow but keep in mind that once a Rogue decides it's game over for a Disc Priest, it's game over. If you want to keep us pesky Rogues off your back stay Shadow :3

                            • Re: Cataclysm

Well Rogue is a class that needs you to really know the class inside and out for PvP since every ability you have is situational. The bad ones get weeded out very quickly. It's why it seems that Rogues can utterly destroy you at times because all but the good ones just reroll.

When fighting a Rogue you need to get them to blow their defensive abilities quickly. Rogues are reliant on cooldowns and so fights against them are very binary. Either the Rogue wins or escapes or the Rogue runs out of cooldowns and dies due to having no way to attack/defend/flee. You will want to chain CC a Rogue because they only have two ways of avoiding your Crowd Control spells: Their PvP trinket and Cloak of Shadows.

It sounds stupid but the best way to kill one is take them by surprise. Rogues are incredibly vulnerable out of stealth. Now Priests can keep a Rogue out of stealth with DoTs but Cloak of Shadows removes all magical effects on the Rogue so chances are they're going to hit Vanish then Cloak of Shadows if CoS is up. If that happens and you're fairly sure the Rogue didn't just run away, prepare to be Garotted.

Good Rogues will always Garotte you because of the silence effect and the bleed. It's the bleeds that are lethal since only Resilience and damage reduction talents mitigates them. If a Rogue opens up with Ambush or Cheap Shot, congrats! It's a terrible Rogue! Hit Psychic Scream and have fun playing with your victim. The problem with Garotte is that the silence effect makes you burn up your trinket or Racial if human and the Rogue can still stun (and silence if a Blood Elf) you. When a Rogue has just popped is the most dangerous moment for a Cloth Wearer because within a second of them popping you can be hit with a 5 point Eviscerate/Kidney Shot/Rupture. if you can survive this initial burst though, Rogues will be in trouble since they don't have many options other than Shadow Dance or Vanish and try to Garotte you again unless they want to suck multiple DoTs, nukes and a potential CC chain from you.

If you want to really screw over a Rogue though, get a Warrior, Kitty or Rogue friend. DoTs stop Rogues from vanishing but they can dispel magical DoTs. However they can't do a thing about three four things:

                              Bleed Effects.
Kitty Stealth being better than Rogue stealth and they will ALWAYS detect the Rogue before the Rogue detects them. If they don't then they are a tab targetter and are trying to get you killed.
Mind Flay AKA Rogue Tentacle Rape
Intimidating Shout followed by Mind Flay followed by Psychic Scream followed by more Mind Flay

Sure Mind Flay is classed as a DoT but because it's channelled and technically is classed as a melee attack, the Rogue doesn't even have an option to Stealth up and Cloak of Shadows does nothing to dispel it. Seriously, if you see a stealthed Rogue nearby hit them with Mind Rape and watch him/her panic. Seriously, that ability is fucking overpowered X_X

Okay, this day needs to hurry up and end so I can get home and finish leveling to cap so I can go rape some rogues. Haha. Usually they pop out of nowhere and sap (I think that's what it is, I don't show the combat log though I prolly should in PvP) me, by the time I react (because usually I'm very ill-prepared for it, pretty sure they wait for my PW:Shield to dissipate) I'm at half health and ohfuckohfuckohfuckohfuck Psychic Scream oh that bought me a few seconds dot-dot-dot holyfuckisthereanyoneelsenearby savemesavemesaveme.

That's how it usually goes, but then again, I think they can sense my panic. Lol. And then when they kill me like that once, they keep targeting me. This usualy happens in WSG. Almost 99% of the time. And one of the main reasons I fucking hate WSG.

I am determined to get better at PvP. And I really have already, I just want to get better than better. Because the first tier of better was just "Not free honor anymore."
