    Re: Cataclysm

The entire point was not whether or not I wanted to spend the money at all, but whether or not I wanted to wait until I at least got my first unemployment check. Or until I started working again, which still has not happened because this stupid background check is fucking taking forever. Since I'm still not sure when I'm going to be starting my new job, that means I have no idea how much money will actually be coming in next week when I get my first paycheck. It's a matter of how many hours I actually manage to work this week that will decide whether or not I can play now or put it off a week when my finances stabilize some.

      Re: Cataclysm

PvP servers were always epic. At some point the douche-bags stop camping you and go back to Dalaran, and you can get down on some good PvP against like-leveled opponents. Eventually, a mutual understanding grows and everybody stops killing each other in favor of leveling.

Although, the dungeon-o-matic really killed every reason the common player had for leaving the walls of their favorite city.

Until something better comes along but as long as the shareholders of other MMO companies look to Blizzard as the industry standard this is unlikely to happen.
I think it's less wanting hard to access content (because that sucks for everyone) and more having the currently available content to be more challenging. Heck the mobs don't even need to get tougher, challenging encounters is what makes games fun.

Challenging content isn't exactly easy to come by. With the advent of guides there isn't much that's truly a challenge.

            Re: Cataclysm

But it's people's choice whether to use guides or not. Most games are like that, there's the "normal" way of clearing a game and then there's always the cheap way of doing it. But it's always up to players to choose.

A good example was when you got the super sword (Crisseagrim or something?) in Symphony of the night. That silly sword sucked all the challenge away from the game, so I tossed it aside fairly quick because I was getting bored of playing like that.

It's the same with guides, there are times when it's better to use a guide (like with XI unnecessary headless-goose chases) and when it's better to try things on your own and/or without the overpowering gear.

Oh, let me clarify that. I only posted a screenshot displaying a bit what I saw during closed beta (parts of that you already get to experience on live right now, namely, the talent tree changes) and that has nothing to do with the ease of the game. I have screenshots in the starting area (Worgen) and that illustrates beautifully the length in which the game has gone to provide ease for new players. But veterans will find it largely insulting to their experience and intelligent where the game has evolved into a "follow this big arrow, hit this mob and after he dies, go see that man over there ... nevermind that you could've read our overly detailed quest log entry about this or why we haven't removed the log completely if we are going to give you a step-by-step hand holding experience".

Imagine end game with the same system in place?

Boss: "Hey, stupid tank, move there to the brightly colored spot on the floor."
Tank moves to brightly colored spot.
Boss: "Cool, thanks. Watch me breathe fire and notice that you don't take damage. Wait, F this, here, take the loot, I want to go play my Kirby Epic Yarn game."

I've noticed healers rarely go below 90% MP, due to how easy the game has become. It'd be nice if it were a little more of a challenge for them, and for everybody else. Maybe then, people would learn to avoid taking damage instead of hopping into the next group of baddies before the tank has time to lay down some hate.

They have changed the threat gain in this game some. I've seen DKs complain about not being able to hold threat off most DPS in the game (Except for hunter, which their damage now sucks ass...))

                      Re: Cataclysm

Number crunched some and realized I'm fine (well, 15 dollars-wise), so I went ahead and reactivated my account. My first little bit in game was confusing, because I had to re-assign all of my talents and try to remember where I'd put my skills on my action bar, but then I just spent a bit of time reacquainting myself with the UI (which didn't take long) and then started learning enchanting. (I had originally leveled skinning and realized it was useless to me. Enchanting will work better with my tailoring.)

Found a guild, but I'm not sure I'll raid with them. I'd forgotten this was a PST server from back in the days when I was able to stay up until 5 AM playing MMOs. (As it is, I shouldn't be up right now. Fawk.)

Let's see ... got some fishing achievements I'd toiled over for months when I last played, got ganked (fuck yeah ... owait ...), and listened to Prop 19 arguments in the trade channel while hanging out in Orgrimmmar getting my shit organized. I'm actually very anxious to get back to doing some dailies and remembering my rhythm with my hotkeys and maybe even doing some PvPing and basically just jerk around online.

Anyway ... anyone on Kil'Jaeden? Hit me up. For now, I'm going to bed. XD

Not sure if you're running with default UI but I downloaded TUKUI the other day and I'm finding it hella smexy.

Pretty sweet. My UI is mostly cluttered. Partly due to laziness and partly due to the fact that I was coerced into having so many stupid things running.

That's the beauty with TUKUI. There are a number of hidden functions in it that I used to rely on Titan/Fubar plugins for (Guild Members/Friends Online, Durability, Latency, Gold, Location). There's also a threat meter built in as well as the micro menu contained within the minimap function and mouse over co-ordinates. I keep finding new features to it and giggling gleefully to myself.

I've been running without add-ons so far, and I've found that they updated the quests in a way that QuestHelper isn't really needed anymore. I'll have to troll through the add-ons though and see what I'd like. Since I'm not planning to raid for at least a while, I won't really need them just yet.

                                That UI is pretty slick.

The only addons I run are GearScore and Deadly Boss Mods. DBM makes boss fights so braindead.

Also, trying to get Loremaster is ridiculous. I'm working on northrend first and gonig down. So far, I have completed... 1 achievement lol.

If there is enough interest, I could roll an alt on Kiljaedan.
