Vagrant Story was primarily developed by the team responsible for Final Fantasy Tactics, with Yasumi Matsuno serving as producer and director.

Short answer? Yes

Long answer? Yes but there are hundred of years and hundred of miles of geography separating each game. If you look at the maps it's impossible for each game to have taken part on the same part of the world so in all likelihood, FFXII, FFT and Vagrant Story all took place on different parts of Ivalice with hundreds of years separating each game.

Is there anything actually indicating a connection beyond the name Ivalice and the races present though? That'd be like saying all Final Fantasy games take place in the same world because of the presence of Chocobos, Bahamut and engineers named Cid.

I'm not convinced.

Montblanc and his guild (from FFTA) appear in FF12. If I remember right you can join them and take on tasks from them.

FFT had an airship graveyard towards the end and made references to an age where technology was very advanced, but it was all lost after some enormous cataclysmic event. This is why FFT is medieval despite being in the future. Most of the Zodiac demons in FFT also coincide with the summons in FF12, and the Zodiac stones themselves may be some form of Magicite.

I've heard Revenant Wings helps explain the connection between 12 and FFT, but I never finished 12 or started RW.

He describes Ivalice as a complex world with a very long history and the stories of Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy XII are said to unfold quite close on the Ivalice map

What would be interesting would be an FFT game (or at least an FF in Ivalice) that depicts Saint Ajora's time. See, at first I figured maybe FF12 was that time period, because in FFT it talks about how airships were everywhere and high technology reigned until a huge cataclysm shortly after his demise. But 12 didn't really give off any indication of it anywhere. Had it been in his time, there would have been at least some reference to him. Plus wasn't there some huge evil they were fighting against? Been a while since I played FFT but I forget how the Stones & Lukavi became connected (the ppl in Ramza's time turning into monsters instead of heroes >.>)


I just think it would be neat to see that time, along with the original Zodiac Braves.

this is the one for the gameboy advance? had a tactic's feel to it, but focused around the kids from 12? I have that also, but have only touched on actually playing it.

FFVI is the one with Terra, Sabin…etc right? I grew up on the snes versions so I get my numbers mixed up. I would have to say my top 3 favorites are

FFVI (with Terra/Sabin/Cyan…etc)
FFXII
FFXI / FFVII

FFxi is by far my favorite. It was the first RPG game I ever played so that might have a slight factor in it. And I’m not lying when I say I’ve played that game (start to finish) at least 10 times. I thought it had a pretty solid story along with a lot of side things you can do. What I liked the most though was the number of characters you pick up. I’ve played them as all level 99/all magic, low level challenges, speed runs, low man (don’t get everyone in WoR). The game just has ‘fun’ written all over it.

I thought FFXII was an awesome game. So I choose 2nd to FFVI. The first run though I filled up everyone’s license board and it was fairly easy. My second time through I decided to make it a little more difficult and took an FFXI approach. I made each character a specific job and only unlocked specific licenses. The game is a lot harder when you only have 1 person that can main heal and maybe 1 support healer. I also tried to minimize everyone’s gambits and play each person as best I could. It really made the game more difficult and fun. I also plan on doing a 122333 challenge in the future.

I lump ffxi and ffvii together because I love ffxi but it’s hard for me to consider it as part of the series. Since it’s an online game and can change its hard for me to categorize it with non-online games. If we are including it, FFXI wins, if not FFVII wins the 3rd place ribbon.

Since were talking about the best…I just wanted to mention the worst. FFX-2. Have any of you played FFx-2 in a college dorm? I don’t suggest it. The ONLY reason I played it was because I loved the FF series. Squaresoft/SE has made so many enjoyable games for me that I decided to stick with them through thick & thin. This was a toughie. The actual game play was not bad. I kinda liked how you could swap though jobs. But the actual story/characters made the game so uncomfortable to play even when no one was around.

I have no problems professing my love for hot digital female characters, so that was never an issue for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy hot chicks as much as the next guy (digital or not). But this game was different. I feel like Square teamed up with Lifetime. I would much rather see them team up with skinamax.
