As much as I'd like to give people a chance, even my faith in Capcom is somewhat shaken.

Mikami and Inafune dreamed up a lot of Capcom's defining games.

My concern isn't really that the franchises they created not maintaining their quality, because they have a number a forthcoming games where the feedback has been positive. My concern is that the burdens Mikami and Inafune had heaped on them will be passed on to other directors and producers.

I mean, let's face it, not everyone is a Shigeru Miyamoto, who can assume larger responsibilities while still having so much creativity. I've also noticed people that serve as artists and musicians for Atlus, musicians and artists, are given director/producer roles and take them in stride.

We're at a point where some of the people we grew up with making games are being moved up the corporate ladder and that changes things. I suppose you can sit and tell yourself, "Well, at least I'm still bringing entertainment and smiles to countless people" but I suspect that only comforts you for so long.

Ghost Trick, Okami Den, Ace Attorney Investications 2 and MVC3 are all Capcom games I'm looking forward to. I have no plans on just jumping ship yet. But they're going to have to show a lot of control over projects like DmC to keep me from being concerned. And no, I don't mean artistically, I could care less what Dante looks like, but he damn well better play like Dante and the gameplay better not feel as loose as Heavenly Sword or Enslaved. Loose controls are fine for them, hell, they're fine for God of War, but they're not fine for Dante.

He could be an ape in a pink tu-tu for all I care. He is not an important character in any stretch of the imagination. I just want it to play like a DMC game, that's all that matters.

            That gif, is awesome.

And Capcom just has a horrendous track record for letting others take control over established franchises. MML3 is being done by Inafune, and MVC3 is looking awesome (and has classic Dante) so I can still look forward to those. Any future projects are a different story.

I mean, just look at the crap job that was Lost Planet 2, vs Vanquish. Holy crap Vanquish was freaking amazing (I rented it and nearly have all the achievements) and is basically the same kind of game as LP, only done right. Now, if we want to compare 2 Capcom games (again involving Mikami) look at RE4 vs RE5. 4 was done by Mikami, 5 wasn't. 4 blew people away, got rave reviews and sold millions, 5 didn't.

Actually, come to think of it, wasn't Bayonette a SEGA made game? What the hell is up with SEGA taking Capcom's top guys and putting out epic action games all of a sudden? (Not to mention Valkyria which is picking up popularity. Not happy that VC3 will again be on PSP only though)

I'm just not seeing anything of real promise on the horizon from Capcom anymore, and for me, SE is on a tightrope at the moment trying to keep itself from falling into the same hole as Capcom. It's not that I hate Capcom, I just don't care for the direction the company's been going for the last while and it's only getting worse. And LOL as BBQ pointed out even Kamiya does not like the new Dante! The fact that they're giving it to Ninja Theory says it all too - Heavenly Sword was over-hyped garbage, and was arguably their best game. It doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Plus, this new DMC reboot is apparently supposed to be a prequel to DMC. Yeah, OK, I thought that DMC3 and the Mangas/Novels did a pretty good job of that already but fine, do what you want Capcom. I'm not interested in another round of Halo Reach-level bull crap retcon job.

Platinum Games made Bayonetta, Madworld and Infinite Space, Sega publishes for them.

Sega is getting a little stronger in some respects and more immensely stupid in others, though.

Example: The next Shenmue game is a social networking game.
Example 2: Sonic 4's Lost Labyrinth levels

Yep. Its like they'll do anything but make Shenmue III just to spite their fans. Its one thing to put a beloved franchise on another platform because at least you're still making the game happen, but to play mad scientist with an IP when all your fans want is the next proper installment is just a bit infuriating.

Then again, Konami's going that route with Castlevania these days.

Yeah wtf is up with Castlevania turning into God of War? I mean the demo was fun but.... if I want God of War, I'll play God of f'ing War.

As for Shenmue 3 that continues to confound me. Or maybe they're pulling another Blizzard on us? (10 year wait for Star Craft 2)

Inafune launches a blog, wants to make new games- Destructoid

Looks like he has some kind of deal set up already, he just can't say what it is yet.

Inafune disrespected the entire Japanese game development industry, let's see if his new game will be any good.

I'd imagine that minus a number of corporate roles that were heaped on him that he could make some really great games now.

Resources is one thing, but good scenario, design and fun factor are somethings that separate a good game from a bad game.
no director/producer is flawless in tastes and decisions.

                          Re: Inafune leaves Capcom

Yeah, but seeing has Inafune doesn't to be everyone's boss and oversee mulitple business departments, that goes a long way toward helping him work on games.

Not everyone can be like Miyamoto and carry all these roles in stride and still make awesome games. Some people need the weight off their shoulders or they'll leave the company.
