A winter release for Japan likely means we could see this summer or early fall 2011. Nice to see PSP's shaping up well for next year.

Rather disappointed that they're releasing P2 as two separate episodes this time out, though. I know that's how it was with the PSX releases, but still. I am liking the updated character art quite a bit

thats pretty cool, I was going to pick up Persona 1 for PsP, and I already have the second one on PSX, but I found out a friend of mine has the first, so I might poke him untill he gives it up ;p

P2 on PSX in the west was just Eternal Punishment, not Innocent Sin. P2 was actually a two-part series

Basically, same characters but a parallel universe where they meet again for the first time under different circumstances. The events of IS lead to the creation of the EP universe.

Persona 3 and 4 take place in the Eternal Punishment universe, by the way, though for having a female protagonist, P3 creates a divergent timeline .

I will look into that though, I can make an exception for it like I did FFIV on DS (its the same story but it was changed so much in the DS version I allowed collection of the second version)

I try and stick with the original versions of stuff if I can in my collection, unless the US did not get said original version or that original version is on a system older then PSX (as I did with the Mega Man Zero Collection on DS)

Well Innocent Sin is really part 1 of the story, back when Persona and Persona 2 were localized, all localization decisions were made through Tecmo. They figured characters being "too Japanese" would make American gamer uncomfortable, so they made everyone white and one guy black in the original Persona.

Mark of NA P1 on PSX went on top be a worse black stereotype than Barret Wallace.

In Persona 2, characters looked a bit more diverse from the outset (if a bit 80s/early 90s), so character designs were left untouched (though the setting was still changed to America), but Tecmo didn't feel like localizing two games, so they put both names on a dartboard and the dart hit Eternal Punishment, Part 2 fo the Persona 2 saga.

In both cases, the localization of the games were terrible, not close the quality we know of Atlus USA.

As for Persona 1, in the grad scheme of things fans of the series say between P1 and P2IS/P2EP that the P2 games have aged a lot better. Persona 1 PSP - while hosting a number of improvements - is still a good game, but by today's standards and even many games that preceded it, it feels really dated and archaic.

So just warning you about Persona PSP.

Its battles drag out too long, the negotiation system is cryptic, player levels and persona levels are separate and EXP is doled out based on member participation, which fucks over any character that wasn't useful that fight.

oh I am all to used to older RPGs, and I have played alittle of Persona 1 (PSX version) so I know what I am getting into ;p but yeah I guess I will see about getting the PSX version from my friend, and then see if I can snag the PsP versions of both P1 and P2 (when it comes out here) I still need to snag P3 and P4, but P4 is low priority since I have beaten it already.

God, Persona games are just so damn sexy. I remember the first time that I played Persona and would do the bare minimum of housework and play for hours on end. My son was in middle school I believe and he begged me to stay home from school so he could watch. lol I ended up buying him his own Persona and PS as an early Christmas gift (or birthday, don't remember when it actually came out).

Speaking of Persona games. I would be a very happy humetaru if they released a P3/4 collection for the PS3.

They could include both JP and NA voices and remake the anime cutsecenes (and add the cs for the female character from P3P) while giving the character models a bit higher poly count and 720p support.

One can dream right? I would even buy 3 copies of it.

Trust me, you do NOT want the Japanese voices for Persona 3 and 4 (especially Yukari and Chie's harpy-esque screeching in Japanese for 3 and 4 respectively). Your eardrums will thank you. Thankfully they did re-master Fuuka's English voice for P3P so it's less grating.

Persona PSP was a lot of fun though it's a great example of a game that has not aged well due to this really. Then again SRPGs (the only way I can really describe P1's battle system), always screw over characters who aren't that useful for the battle, and if you get a portion of the game where a particular character is sub-optimal...
