Activision is yes, but sadly I still love Blizzard's games so it's a rather vexing conundrum. If Blizzard didn't still make quality games it'd be one thing (lolCoD) but they do.

@_@ and stop comparing me to J9 lol. If anyone actually took the time to watch the movie, that number is a direct quote lol. I didn't just pull it out of my ass. The crazy thing is that's just accounting for runes, never mind charms, gems, or even equipment. Gah, but even in it's broken state XIV is an epic time sink @_@ (though, a lot of the problems in the game are making it that way so hopefully that gets cut down) I scarcely have time for anything else once I get all my stupid leves done.

No mention of Heart of the Swarm yet from Blizzcon (far as I know) but there is an SC2 tourney under way.

LOL I feel the same as you. Is it the crafting? Cause that's the only thing that's keeping me tied to the game. A lot of other players complain about it being difficult or tedious but I don't have any complaints. Crafting in WoW, in comparison, is a slap to the face at whatever semblance of skill any game tried to portray....

Nah, that's playing an MMO or joining on online clan.

Fortunately, games like this don't need that kind of social structure and organizing online game with other people for games like a Diablo is a bit of a drag.

. . . you know, it just hit me that the number is greater than the number of people on this planet . . . by a factor of more than 15.

I find it hard to compare Diablo to Borderlands. Yeah, it has loot drops, but Diablo was fun.

                have you played Borderlands?

I am not much into FPS my self, but I found Borderlands to be a total blast

I bought the game. Didn't like the look of the game, was hella boring playing by myself. I got a chance to play with a couple friends online and it didn't make it much better. The dueling was meh. Just couldn't get into the feel of the game at all. I prefer my FPS types a bit more fast paced, like CoD or Tribes.

I didn't even watch the video 'cause I honestly don't even care.

However, 96,886,969,344 = 60 odd abilities with varying tiers. In actuality, this obnoxious number of "96,886,969,344" is really just a hype number and in no way reflects most of the builds people would actually use... which would bring the number down to about 20 per class.

96,886,969,344 different ability upgrades? Sure. Then I'm fucking impressed. Don't get me wrong, I loved Diablo I and II, but I'm so tired of developers throwing around these numbers of "loller look at all these possible builds!" when it's just total crap.

Talent trees in WoW are just.. meh. If you want to do anything other than screwing around, then you basically have 3 possible builds for any given class, and -maybe- can adjust one or two points around to vary from the cookie cutter. It's kinda lame how little customization there is with talent trees.

There'll be even less in Cataclysm as (the current beta build) you're locked into a tree for at least ... what was it ... 40 points? 41? I don't remember anymore, been a while since I played with the talent trees.

That says it all right there. If you had watched it you'd know that this is because of all the modifications to your abilities that Runes do. There's 5 kinds of Runes - Crimson Azure Golden Alabastor & Obsidian. Each type mods each skill in the game in a different way, with the strength of the effect being determined by the tier of the rune (I believe there are 7 ranks?)

Gems also apparently go up to Rank 13 now vs 5 in Diablo II, which is nuts. Then you gotta factor in charms, gear, etc... yeah there's a shitload of customization in D3. I'm also hoping they bring back Synergy from Diablo II as that was, IMO, the single greatest update ever to that game.

So it's a more complex system than just pumping points into it?

Yeah. Still over-hyping something that will eventually become 20 builds or less.

There's quite a bit of customization *possible* -- even in 4.x. It's just that most of the builds turn out to be inferior and other players will pressure you to use something more effective (even if, for some reason, you didn't have any inclination to be more effective on your own).

It's the players who take the customization away by min/maxing and parsing and determining which build gets the most monsters dead the fastest, and that'll be just as true in D3 as it was in D2, or WoW, or FFXI, or FFXIV.
