"Pokémon and Nintendo celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Gold and Silver by releasing the original secret Pokémon into the wild for a limited time. Here's what you need to do to score Mew.

Game Freak programmer Shigeki Morimoto secretly programmed Mew into the Red and Blue versions of Pokémon prior to the release of those games in Japan. Intended as a secret accessible only by developers, glitches in Red, Blue, and Yellow allowed players to encounter the pink feline creature. Mew became a sensation, propelling the games to even greater heights of success.

Mew has never been a regularly occurring Pokémon in the franchise, available only through special distribution events, like the one Nintendo and Pokémon are holding this month.

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver owners will be able to obtain Mew over their Wi-Fi connection using the Mystery Gift option. From October 15 to October 30, logging into the service will score players a level five Mew stored inside a Cherish Ball with a Premier Ribbon. As long as they have less than three Wonder Cards in their game, Mew will be theirs.

I still remember the first Mew giveaway. You had to send your name and address to Nintendo Power in an index card. If you won you'd have to mail them your cartridge too.

Given the whole thing started back when I was in college... no, not really. And I knew other players on campus at the time that were rather devoted Red/Blue and Gold/Silver fans, we were.

A good game is a good game and good games doesn't really have a age.

What I think the hate is really about is for people who still like the anime. The games are solid, but the show is a whole other story of lame.
