oh mew, well it's just a matter of taste. Nothing on PSP interests me besides Dissidia, and Dracula X Chronicles.
and maybe the upcoming Agito XIII. It's just not enough to spend 100+ dollars to play.

Wow, do we really have to have an annoying "My handheld pwns your console" argument? Can't they both be good for their various reasons? I'm glad that I can enjoy both and not have to jump onto some fanboy argument. I'll play the game on whatever it comes out on.

not having that argument, noone said consoles suck here, just saying that hand helds are not bad, I enjoy both very well.

No, we don't have that "arguement" going on here. At least not until J9 made the false allegation (again) that the handheld platform brings far less value and content to the table, which totally isn't true.

My original point was NIS was just continuing to dig its own grave by sticking a niche title on PS3. Even Atlus has given that up and Catherine proves that, to say nothing of Persona which seems to have its Nintendo debut already slated. That used to be a franchise made for Playstation only. Apparently no much exclusivity can be afforded to consoles, so that also means any future PS3 entry is likely a 360 one as well.

Disgaea 4 doesn't gain any sales, any quality or any content for being on the PS3, just like Disgaea 3 didn't. PS3 is not the PS2, not by a long shot. I couldn't sell someone a PS3 with Disgaea, but if PS3 had the wealth of games PS2 had, my chances would improve.

What could I sell such niche titles on these days? PSP and DS and that's about it. PS3, 360 and even Wii are a risky venture. Wii had a chance to become more inviting to RPGs, but I think 3DS has pretty much killed that and PSP2 will finish the job. At least we'll have The Last Story and possibly Xenoblade.

PSP has:

Disgaea
Disgaea 2
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Jenne D'Arc (I'd argue its Level 5's best game or at least a strong contender against their Layton games)
Valkyria Chonicles 2

And there's others, I just can't list them all, plus this particular genre is well-traveled on DS as well.

Much as I like SRPGs on portables, I really do think Valkyria Chronicles II loses a lot in transition. Not only did they lose much of the gorgeous pencil-sketch art style which make VC1 such a joy to watch in motion, but they traded out the truly heartwarming characters from the first game for a bunch of teen anime runaways. Granted, this second issue isn't a problem with the PSP.

With that said, I'm very surprised Disgaea 4 wasn't made for PSP instead of/including PS3. It's the sort of game that is perfect for on-the-go bite sized gameplay, with the screen size being the only significant limiting factor.

I think PSP 3000s are able to connect to TVs and display fullscreen.

I might get one if Duodecim and Agito XIII turn out to be good.

But this sentence is equally true if you replace "PS3" with "PSP". I doubt if any system of this generation will have the wealth of games PS2 had, because it had that after totally demolishing the competition in *its* generation.

Personally, I have a PS2, PS3 and DS, and not much interest in buying yet another system in the next couple of years, handheld or otherwise; I might or might not get Disgaea 4 (I don't have 3 yet, but if I had more free time to play it, I might) but I definitely wouldn't if it was PSP only.

How many people have what combination of systems is not something I have at my fingertips, but it's my impression that PSP's user base is not exactly huge. (Most of the games you listed as examples of good handheld games are for the DS, aren't they? At least, I know Pokemon and the two SMT games are.)

...At least they didn't add some controller-shaking gimmick so they could put it on Wii. There are some genres that might benefit from the Wii controller but SRPGs really aren't one of them.

I just got a PsP 3000 (yeah I finally gave in lol) and am now wondering if I can take it back and get the PsP Go...... (got the PsP used) I just found out that the PsP Go has bluetooth and you can connect a PS3 controller to it, then of course with the TV out cable... you pretty much have a tiny console. Only thing I dont like about the Go, is the "download only" -.-

I agree that Srpgs are good for handhelds, also action titles, I picked up Phantasy Star Portable 2 with my PsP, and I am having a ball.

PSP Go is an awesome choice... if you want to cut your game options down to a third of the games available. You're much better off getting a 8-16 GB memory stick for the 3000 and searching out 3000 compatible AV out cables on Amazon

No SE PSP games are up for download on the service outside of Dissidia, for example. FF, FFII, Crisis Core, FFT:WotL Kingdom Hearts BBS are not on PSN. Considering SE's track record, I wouldn't put it past them if Lords or Arcana, The 3rd Birthday and Agito FFXIII didn't get up on PSN for download either.

Most games that hit retail now also appear on PSN for download, which works out fine for the Go, but there's still a huge backlog of stuff that's still not there. So, going with the Go is missing out on a lot.

Of the games listed on DS, only Disgaea appeared on the DS, but not at the same quality as PSP. DS does have a Final Fantasy Tactics game, but its not FFT:War of the Lions. DS has Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2

Of all the years PSP has been out, this is the strongest year in terms of software and there's a lot to like. DS games are going to start to decline in the next year and 3DS is going to take a bit of time to warm up. PSP is looking pretty strong at this time and perhaps the reason for that is the transition we're looking at now.

PSP holds its own in Japan against DS these days, much due to games like Monster Hunter. Nintendo surges back with games like DQIX and Pokemon and there's still plenty to love, but I think its just DS starting the show its age that's been a bigger factor.

thats pretty much what I did, I have the 3000 with an 8gb stick, and the video cables for it sitting in a box ;p I have extra hookups for some old setups I had, so I can extend the cables for the PsP V/A cable across the room.
