Dive into a world of data as Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded is released on January 11th in North America and 14th in Europe for the NDS

KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded | SQUARE ENIX (NA)

    Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (EU)

    Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (main)

Re: Coded is a remake of Coded that was originally only available in Japan for mobile phones. Changes include a revamped battle system for traditional KH fights (more akin to BbS's system), a new avatar system similar to KH: Mobile, a tag mode generated dungeon (may have this wrong) and a new secret scene (not a full fledged movie, a part can be seen in the final trailer). There are also different types of battling including traditional turn based RPG style fights, rail shooters and side scrolling levels.

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

Changed NA release date. Its actually 1/11/11, which makes a lot more sense since the 14th is a Friday and Square always does Tuesday releases in NA.

      Also changed NA site

Also the secret scene is already online. Its pretty spoilerific, confirming cannon, and being whoa and awesome at the same time.

Wow, that's actually much sooner than I expected it to be. I was expecting some time after 3DS was out for this game to hit the DS.

Well it was released in Japan today and I am pretty sure they started recording for re:Coded right after they finished the English VO for BbS. I think Hand started work on Re:Coded right after they finished Days, so it actually has be in production for a while.

Well, in any event it feels much more timely than usual for SE. To think we'll have had three installments released within 14 months is pretty surprising.

I was actually expecting to see The 3rd Birthday out before this..

              This is decidedly so

Oh yeah just remembered. Zipper man has stated he is beginning the conceptualization of Kingdom Hearts III. It will very likely miss the 10th anniversary mark in 2012, but he wants it out on the current generation of systems (consoles).

                So...with this in mind...

How is Birth by Sleep? Is it worth buying a PSP just to start off with (and hopefully branch off to enough other games to make the purchase worth while) At a mall nearby, saw a set containing both the game and the PSP.

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

If you like RPGs, this year, PSP is the system to have now and well into next year.

                  Persona 3 Portable
                  Ys Seven
                  Kingdom Hearts
Valkyria Chronicles 2 (and 3 in the future)
                  Phantasy Star Portable 2
                  God Eater Burst
                  Monster Hunter Portable 3rd

Then there's God of War: Ghost of Sparta
                  MGS: PeaceWalker
                  The 3rd Birthday

                  and so on.

To be honest, Phantasy Star Portable 2 has been getting all my attention, I still haven't finished BBS yet because of it. Phantasy Star Universe, finally fixed, with loads of content and online play. Its just hard to put down..

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

As far as BbS goes, its a very good game. The 3 playable characters all have different play styles which gives the game a fresh feeling when you play through each story. Terra is strong but slow, Ven plays a lot like Sora and Aqua has great magic but the def of a wet paper bag. Plus there is a lot to do even after you beat the game and 4 difficulty levels to add to replay.

In addition to what BBQ mentioned there is also the Star Ocean series (1&2) and it is region free so you can import to your hearts content

If you can wait until January, BbS: FM comes out in Japan with a bit extra content over the western version.

KH: 3D shouldn't be out until late next year/early 2012*, so if you are wanting to get a 3DS for that game, you are pretty safe to hold off.

(I'm only guessing this because only part of the team is working on it, the rest will join in once BbS: FM is done)

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

Seems KH: Re:Coded has seen sluggish sales, likely due to SE making the mistake of launching in the same window as Pokemon Black/White. Granted, I'm sure the previous exposure on cell phone also dampened interest for some people, but still, its pretty stupid to go up against a juggernaut like Pokemon.

I'm sure it will do OK in the US, but I'm curious how well it will hold up against 358/2 days. For something so obscured by the hype of BBS for years, it really ended up impressing me with its gameplay and story.

I'm just gettting back to Ventus' path on BBS, Phantasy Star Portable 2 had me hooked for a bit, but I'm pushing myself to finish BBS now that I know PSPortable2's community is varied enough for me to take a small break. About to do Stich, Peter Pan and then go on my Xenhanort's Report hunt since I'm still missing five of them and haven't picked up any since starting Ventus aside from the introduction letter.

Terra has one that you have to actively look work for in Mirage Arena. Aqua and Ven's "hidden" one is just in a chest (Ven has 2 in chests). The rest are automatic with events

And yeah, releasing anything within a month of a Pokemon game in Japan is going to slash your sales pretty drastically.

As for US sales, I know some people are skipping it because the information they want for the story is already out there. But S-E also needs to do a better job of selling the game. I've heard they are only showing off the traverse town data stage which is more classic KH style fighting. If they showed off the Side scrolling levels or Rail Shooters, I think that would help psyche people up.

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

SE has a communication problem period with the west when it comes to marketing.

I mean, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light is very clearly a throwback to much older RPGs. Its not even entirely based upon Final Fantasy. In Japan, they make it very clear that its not directly related to the main franchise. In US and EU they make no effort to come out and say that. They don't tell people its more in line with Final Fantasy/Final Fantasy III and other, older RPG and that the dungeons are going to hand their lungs to them.

To be fair, though, Atlus does make it a point to say a game like Etrian Odyssey is exactly that sort of throwback and you have some dumbass editors on IGN or other sites that play it expecting some grand story. This is sad considering the PRESS RELEASE they used for half of their review almost implicitly states the game has no story, that part of the appeal is making it up as you go along based on the quests you're given.

But put the words Final Fantasy on it and the commence with the fapping anyway and rate it high even for having the most barebones plot.

So while SE does a half-assed job, its not like the press helps that much either. And with the bigger sites, its like they throw the handheld stuff to the interns. If it says Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Persona, Metal Gear or Pokemon they'll review it right away and wait eons to review anything else.

Re: KH Re: Coded release date

                            Finished up BBS today.

Overall, its probably my second favorite of the series, which means CoM just got kicked down one notch. 358/2 Days I still enjoyed the most because for all the stories of "friendship" in the series, it felt like 358/2 Days had the most genuine foundation in that regard and the saddest ending.

Terra, Aqua and Ventus were failrly strong in that regard.

My only problem with the game was its structure. I liked the specialization of each character, but that gets tossed to the side in the final episode. I understand its for the sake of story, but they could have made the whole game focused on one character so I didn'f feel like I wasted my time playing the other two.

                            That character is...

I did really enjoy that this one not only answered a lot of questions, but also showed where all the pieces fell. The secret ending wasn't some cryptic CG spoogefest, but ties it all together and places you right where Coded is likely begin.

                            Also, these poor folks
