Dissidia is a quick-fix kind of game, really. Something you can pick up and put down at any time. If you take all the big fight sequences in FFVII: Advent Children and made them into a game, that's more or less what Dissidia is.
I can't say I'm stoked that Vaan's in this one, as the very last thing the hero side needs is yet another sword wielder, but he did have a pretty cool quickening to use for an EX Burst.
I still would have preferred Balthier or Fran, though.
some say the scan details that Vaan will use different weapons in his fighting style, not just sword (similiar to Firion in Dissidia 1, possibly).
FFXII also had some unique spells and magic types like Green Magic, and Arcane Magic, so Vaan can bring some unique style to the selection! (ya I know Green magic is basically some defensive white magic and other things put into a new category, but FFXII's magic system overall has its differences from the usual.)
FFXII had ninja swords, daggers, hand bombs, guns, crossbows, bows, spears, 2h swords, katanas, axes, and more. The ADB system allowed changing weapons at anytime, it's very possible Vaan could have a diverse and deep moveset.
Wow, I didn't think they could make Vaan look more effeminate and yet here we go. Not that Vaan being in it comes as a surprise, since Bobby Edner said he was doing new VA work for Vaan.
Also, any guesses as to where Terra's 3rd costume comes from?
Also, any guesses as to where Terra's 3rd costume comes from?
A lot of the 3rd Costumes so far seem to be drawn from other games Nomura has worked on or Final Fantasy characters have appeared in or, failing that, other concept art Nomura or Amano once had for the characters. In Lightning's case, they gave her an Aya skin to reference Nomura's past work on Parasite Eve. Golbez has a third alternate that appears in FFIV: The After Years and Cloud sports his Before Crisis/Crisis Core getup, as if done by Amano.
I believe Cloud is also getting a fourth skin, the Devil Wing/Red Scarf/Bandaged Buster Sword combo from Kingdom Hearts.
So maybe Terra's 3rd comes from one of her other concepts for FFVI. Her first skin resembles her final concept and her second is reskinned to match the colors she had in-game (green hair)
I'll make a wild stab at Tifa's 3rd being the little brown outfit with the cowboy hat and boots from the Nibelheim incident, since her second would obviously be her Advent Children getup.

Oh for the love of... really? VAAN?! Not Balthier, Fran, Ashe or even Basch (who would be ideal as a counter part to Gabranth) but f'ing Vaan.
Well, except Gabranth is Basch. They even cast Basch's actor for Gabranth in Dissidia and he was voiced by a different actor in FFXII. Basch assumed Gabranth's identity and demeanor to watch over Larsa when Gabranth died. You didn't notice his EX Burst was Basch's quickening?
Only problem with my theory is that Gabranth doesn't have a scar on his forehead, but everything else points to this being the Basch version of Gabranth. Each character in Dissidia is seemingly plucked from a different time in their lives in the games we knew them from, so if I'm right Vaan will know Gabranth's true name and history, they have FFXII Revenant Wings to draw from as well as FFTA2.
I'm wagering Gabranth's 3rd skin will be Basch's outfit. Shantotto's 3rd will likely come from Shantotto Ascension or new the new tier of AF in FFXI. Vaan's 3rd is likely the white shirt he wore in FFTA2.
There's still a possibility another FFXII character could be called upon. They're not just picking 1 hero/1 villain like last time, but fan favorites and in Vaan's case, he'a female fan favorite in Japan. That whole androgynous thing.
"You see it all goes back to king raithwall the dynast king. he was the guy who was given the sword of kings by the occuria and use the sword to carve the dawn, dusk, and midlight shards from the sun cryst. he used these shards to unite ivalice being manipulated by the Occuria to lead history into the direction they wanted. then we fast forward to FFXII and the occuria are looking for a new Dynast King and they have a choice between Ashe and Vaan. the Occuria saw Ashe as being the fallen princess who lost both her kingdom and her love to Archadia would rise up and take revenge wielding the sword of kings and using a new shard carved from sun cryst. meanwhile they saw Vaan as being someone who was commoner but had everything taken away from him and wanting nothing more then revenge on Archadia and so he would take up the sword of kings and a new shard and destroy Archadia.
either scenario would be fine for the Occuria and so they attempted to manipulate them both which is why Ashe saw Rassler ghost and Vaan saw Reks. this is why Vaan and Ashe were the only ones who saw these illusions as the Occuria were trying to add fuel to the hate they both already had for Archadia. However half way through we see Vaan make his apology to Basch and in this scene Vaan finally comes to terms with what happened and so he finally lets go of his hatred. when this happens the Occuria no longer see Vaan as a candidate for Dynast King, which is why the next time Ashe sees Rassler, Vaan doesn't see Reks. it is also because Vaan was able to get past his anger and hatred that he was able to help Ashe get over hers as well and say no to the Occuria's offer. So really Vaan helped prevent another disaster from happening, and helping Ashe avoid making the same mistake her ancestor did. The result was freeing the world from Occuria's influence by destroying the Sun Cryst, and no more countries sacrificed because of Occuria manipulation.
Credited as Basch fon Ronsenburg in FFXII
Judge Magister Gabranth in Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
Thanks for playing.
Also, of all the characters in the game, Gabranth is the one in most dire need of tweaks. Being bound to charging EX to do HP attacks at all is rather frustrating as actual players aren't going to be so kind with a game of cat and mouse.
Oh but still, they made him talk like Noah instead of Basch. The accent difference is very clear.
And ya there is no scar, so it's clearly Noah, not Basch, regardless of VA.
Also why do you think Gabranth is aligned to chaos, and his story stuff is related to his doings in XII? His personality and everything is all tied to Noah's character, not Basch.

And most if not all of the FF villains in Dissidia are also technically dead, but they're still there. So I'm not seeing any conflict here. That's just being cheap on SE's part IMO.

I said they were plucked from different points in their respective timelines - this is kinda by story, too.
Cloud is looking for his "reason to fight."
Terra is kind of in the same place, her place in the middle of FFVI.
Cecil and Golbez seem to come from the end of FFIV
Shantotto knows of Cavernous Maws, so she's present day Vana'diel.
Squall knows of Ultemecia, so thats disc 3 at least, they live in a time loop, tough.
And in each path, they get an abridged version of the original game's story. Terra and Cloud find their desire to protect, Cecil finds his strength in his allies and Tidus fleshes out his issues with Jecht (a lot better than it was done in FFX, at that).
We just have to assume the villains come from the same place. Its entirely possible Vaan and Gabranth are the ones at the end of FFXII and Gabranth just plays a Golbez-type of role. He is a judge, after all, he could go neutral.
The characters go back to thier respective worlds and get brought back again by Cosmos and Chaos. So maybe this time Cloud is Advent Children era, Cecil is After Years, Vaan could be Post FFXII/pre-Revenant Wings. Squall and Ultemecia are in a time loop, so anything goes.
Its all just fanservice, but they're not going to go anywhere with these characters that doesn't fit where they went in the games, kinda like how Nintendo does stuff in Smash Bros. that has appeared (or will) in another game. That whole bit where Ridley grabbed Samus and scraped her along a wall? Happened in Smash Bros. Brawl. They put it in Metroid: Other M to help make that reference stick. And Pikachu has an advantage against Charizard because he's Flying-type pokemon, just as it would be in the Pokemon games.
SE does the same thing. The only male villian and male hero that can done a otherwise exclusive set of female armor are Kefka and Cloud. Very distinct references there.
