Video Game Pulled Globally From Military Stores Over Taliban Inclusion

"As all stores located on Army and Air Force bases will no longer be allowed to sell Electronic Arts' upcoming military shooter Medal of Honor because an aspect of the game includes playable Taliban characters.

The Army and Air Force Exchange Services has confirmed to Kotaku that they requested the game pulled from the 49 GameStop's located on bases in the continent U.S. The ban, an AAFES representative told Kotaku, also extends to all military PXs worldwide.

In an email to employees, GameStop says the decision was made "out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform."

"GameStop has agreed out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform we will not carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores...," the email, obtained by Kotaku, reads. "As such, GameStop agreed to have all marketing material pulled by noon today and to stop taking reservations. Customers who enter our AAFES stores and wish to reserve Medal of Honor can and should be directed to the nearest GameStop location off base.

"GameStop fully supports AAFES in this endeavor and is sensitive to the fact that in multiplayer mode one side will assume the role of Taliban fighter."

The stores on bases contacted by Kotaku all confirmed that they no longer will be selling the game and referred us to GameStops in town to pick up the title when it comes out.

Electronic Arts declined to comment further for this story.

They have, though, made their opinion on the matter clear.

The commanding general of the Army and Air Force Exchange Services confirmed told Kotaku that his decision was based on the inclusion of Taliban in the game and impacts all PXs located on Army and Air Force bases worldwide and all GameStops located on U.S. bases."

Or basically: Because people complained so loudly about this being insensitive to our troops in imaginary video game land, our troops in the real world are going to have extra hassles just to get a game they want to play. Remember that our troops aren't all stationed in suburbia where there's a gamestop every few miles. Some of them will probably have to resort to using import companies at higher rates, or have family members send them copies after release (when they may have wanted to play with friends back home).

      gg.

But they are making a point Feba. You know, like when a 5 year old stops his foot and screams because he wants something. lol

I really don't care how mean this sounds, but if you have enough time on your hands on a military base to be dicking around playing video games on the taxpayer dime then you have the time to go off-site to get it or just go to Amazon.com and get it that way.

Yeah, when you join the military, the government owns your life and you should have to live in the worst conditions possible! Screw "free time" or "salary", or any form of "compensation" for having "one of the riskiest jobs on the planet". SAVE SOME GODDAMN MONEY FOR THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER, YOU UNPATRIOTIC DEFENDERS OF OUR NATION.

...lolno. It's all about the religion involved, don't kid yourself. If it was any other religious building or hell any other kind of building, it wouldn't have been an issue. But because it's a Muslim community center...not even an actual Mosque...it's causing an uproar.

And just an FYI, the one near ground zero isn't the only "Mosque" that's facing opposition in being built.

You do realize Afghanistan is more or less the child rape capital of the world, mainly because of the people who live there.

It should be pointed out that 'philias' are generally considered to be things which go outside societal norms and acceptable bounds, or become a problem.

If these men moved to the US and kept having sexual contact with small boys, undoubtedly they'd be pedophiles. In their society, it is considered normal (and even positive), as it was in many classical societies. They would be seen no more as 'pedophiles' than the average American would be seen as 'Hypermammarphiles' for a love of unnaturally and abnormally large breasts. There's also body piercings and tattoos-- in some cultures, this could be seen as obscene, or even self-harming behavior. In ours, they're normal. Yet we look at cultures that have other body modifications as being extreme; such as those which bind feet, lower shoulders (the neck ring things), or stretch the ear lobes with large loops. And this isn't even mentioning the whole "plastic surgery" thing. And not to downplay the seriousness of child rape, but a lot of the damage is psychological-- rooted in society, its norms, and its expectations, not the act itself. Keep in mind that a lot of these men were probably in that position themselves; not a matter of a rich upper class swooping to a country with lax laws as it is in some SE Asian countries.

Are you attempting to be political or are you just trying to incite racial hatred? Do you honestly believe all of the cr*p vomited out by the American media? Have you ever been to Iran, do you actually know anything about the country other than what you're told by the Murdoch empire?

Iran is a beautiful country filled with welcoming, hospitable people that would offer you their bed and sleep on the floor. Not a single person I know voted for the regime, Ahmadnejed hasn't legitimately won any of the 'elections' yet the effects of this are inconsequential outside of a minority. In Tehran people drink, smoke, have parties, it's all very liberal and westernised.

But oh no.... America wants to invade because Iran is 'training terrorists'.

The hypocritical bastards! Did you know that prior to the Twin Tower 'attacks' your government funded the IRA because they were 'freedom fighters'.

Never mind though, we all know you're "here to save the mother f**king day YEAH!"

I never said anything about whether Afghan men raping their little boys because they're disgusted by women was right or wrong, good or bad or anything in between. I was just refuting the claims made that the Taliban prevents child rape by showing their very society there promotes it.
